Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
Personally, I hope they sign him. My opinion is that you draft a QB in the mid-late rounds every year and you also take chances on former first round QBs that are still on their second or third chance (e.g., Rosen, Haskins). If they don't work out, you cut them. They come on the cheap. But.... if they do work out, you set your franchise up pretty nicely.

I'd be much happier if it was Jameis Winston.

No thanks! I’d rather go with Rudolph. At least he acts like he wants to be in the NFL.

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
futures contract, i don't mind kicking the tires. I'm glad the Steelers are addressing the QB position as a need though.

Steelers Sign QB Dwayne Haskins
The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed on terms with former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins.
NOAH STRACKBEIN
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing former Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.
Haskins, who met with coaches in Pittsburgh on Thursday, will join a quarterback room that features Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs.
More reports have released that the Steelers and Haskins have agreed on terms to a one-year deal.
Haskins is 3-10 as a starter in the NFL, completing 60% of his passes for 2,804 yards and 12 touchdowns, but has thrown 14 interceptions. He was released by Washington after a video was leaked of him at a club without a mask on during the regular season.
The Steelers are still waiting on a retirement decision from Roethlisberger. The 38-year-old has one year left on his contract.
Head coach Mike Tomlin applauded Rudolph's development in 2020 but didn't confirm Rudolph is starter-ready if needed in 2021.
"I thought he displayed that he took a step in growth and development in his performance, even though it was a small sample size," Tomlin said. "I would imagine that he is going to continue with that growth and development. We will see where that leads us in terms of what he is able to provide us. I'm excited that he was able to display that and I think it is reasonable for me to expect or him to expect that general trajectory to continue."

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
Oh well. Reclamation project, with low risk. I dont see the harm, but I bet a lot of that meeting had to discuss his desire to be an NFL QB and willingness to do what it takes to succeed.
I'm fine with it. They got that 1st round QB on the cheap and if he isnt ready to be a pro, then....he gone.

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
Haskins is a weird dude.
He is not angry. He is not an a$$hole. By all accounts, he is friendly and respectful.
But, when asked to learn the playbook, he was like, "Naaaah, I'll pass."

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers

Haskins, 23, is represented by Brian Levy, who is also Mike Tomlin's agent.

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
It's a futures deal. No downside to this contract.

Haven't really seen this kid play. Any upside to his talent?

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
I'm sure that Tomlin's agent, who is also Haskins' agent vouched for Haskins' intention to rehabilitate his character.

I hope he has a daughter that eventually marries someone named Robbins and she hyphenates.

I live in the Washington DC area, and this is exactly what has been stated repeatedly by local media here over the last couple years. The refusal to study and learn the playbook is the thing that stands out the most to me, and makes me think that he just does not really like football.......at least does not like it at this elite, professional level where there is much more preparation required.

Haskins tweeted the signing along with a picture of him in #3. So you could change the nameplate on your old Landry Jones jersey. :eyebrows:
Honestly, no downside to this. Low cost. Steelers have a good enough leadership group to support him where needed and not let anything distract. Cam Heyward is OSU alum. Minkah Fitzpatrick grew up 5 miles away from Haskins in New Jersey, until 9th Grade when Haskins moved to Maryland. Hopefully Matt Canada is around for some coaching up.

Not that I’ve seen. Washington is basically our home team, and no one around here has any use for him. He was Snyder’s pick. That ought to tell you something. Gets benched then kicked off the team. Disregarded Covid protocol not once but twice. Sound like a Steeler to me.
:sarcasm2:

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
I hope he can turn his life around and live up to his R1 pick. It would benefit both parties.

He was a 1 year starter at Ohio State. Scouts gave some pro comparisons to Dante Culpepper and Jacoby Brissett. An early entry Junior from College, who many thought would need time to mature and sit behind a starter to learn and mature. Washington had injuries and threw him in right away as a rookie, where some think was a bad situation for him.
Lewis Riddick from ESPN, who is a former player, scout and currently seen as a future GM in the league had stated that he thought Haskins was the best QB talent in the draft, ahead of Kyler Murray and Tua Tagaviloa. Size, arm strength, good mobility but not a running QB. He just needed time to learn and develop. Now he may get his chance.

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
I was supportive of the Paxton Lynch signing and feel similarly about the Haskins signing. They are basically a similar profile. Some college tape and scouting reports that indicate they could be really successful at the NFL level. NFL tape and scouting reports to indicate that their work ethic or mental capabilities are preventing that physical talent from showing up on the field.
For the relatively paltry cap $$$ amount and essentially zero risk nature of the move...why not? Worst case scenario, Haskins looks awful at all stages between now and summer of 2021. Then just cut him loose.

interesting considering he was not even in the same draft class as Tua ...
it was Kyer , Daniel Jones , Haskins in the 2019 draft Tua didnt turn pro till the 2020 draft

This was the one QB I was hoping the Steelers would avoid. Sorry but this guy has a bad foundation. In the short run he may be able to renovate what is on top and be the good student and do something spectacular now and then but as soon he tastes any success his ego will take over and laziness will soon follow. I will gladly eat crow if I am wrong and if I am wrong - I will be happy because the Steelers would have a legitimate talent for cheap. But I don’t think I am wrong. This dude is a bad egg.

No problem, Steelers have lots of money. Ask Cortez Allen and Ladarius Green. :chuckle:

Steelers obviously had him rated high on their draft board in 2019.

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
they’re proactive, not sure how anyone could be against giving the kid second chance. its not like he decked his girlfriend in elevator or choked her out. If he doesn’t put the time in and progress he’s gone, Josh Allen didn’t exactly light it up right away either. I like move whether it Haskins, Rosen, Darnold or Winston. Tomlin realizes The current depth chart has room for improvement, now we need to clean house on RB depth chart.

bringing guy in hardly means he’s given roster spot, he’ll have to earn it.

Re: Reports: Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins To Visit Steelers
This team has been a magnet for poor attitude players and under Tomlin this kid won't disappoint. At this point I believe every single Ex Steeler player who says the locker room is completely out of control. I agree with Cubanstogie about the fact that just because they bring him in doesn't mean he will earn a roster spot, it just seems like a worthless addition.
