Serious question....is Arch Manning any good? Or is it all about the name?

I believe he’s only played a few games but I think he was pretty good when in there. But also, it wasn’t against top competition either. I’m not sure if he’s NFL good or not. I think right now, it’s all name.

Okay. I guess that will eventually sort itself out...

What I am seeing is IOL retreating in pass protection more than other teams IOL do. Watch the Bengals, Ravens, Philly O lines and you see their Guards and Centers with hands inside frame and planting their feet and trying to maintain pocket.
The Steelers linemen punch and retreat until they are in the lap of the QB and he has to scramble or get sacked. Improved run game will not help that, to me it looks like either lack of strength or poor technique. Should be time to move on from Meyer.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Only questions we need to answer right now is:
was Fields any worse than Russ? No.
was Fields improving, doing what he was asked? Yes.
Fields has incredible upside still, not even close to his potential. Staying in same offence for a coupe of years will make him lethal.

May need it's own thread one day. Jets want to talk to Smith for their HC vacancy. Some think Rodgers will retire. That Fields QB for Art Smith dream may be a Jets reality soon.

I don't think Fields is going to amount to anything.

Kenny would have gotten them into position for a field goal on that last drive. Seriously.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
I really dont understand what others are basing that "Fields will never be the future" on? He can throw, he can place the ball, he is calm in the pocket, he can step up, he can escape, he can shuffle, and.... tada... he can get 10 easy yards running. And he is still developing
He has had 6 games in a decent organisation. Nothing wrong with these snaps:

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Shamelessly stole this image from here: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/604...isions-nguyen/
Really good read if you have access about Wilson and the failure to go to the middle. Broke this play down convincingly (at least to me) and Wilson went to Harris underneath rather than the highlighted area immediately after he saw Williams getting doubled downfield. There is another image showing where everyone was when he threw the ball. And Harris is open (in the one below the Bengals defender has driven on the catch from his original deeper zone position) but so is Pickens. Like I can see it.
Anyways, I would print this out and tell Wilson's agent to pound sand if he wanted much of anything other than the team friendliest of deals possible.

These are the same people who were jumping up and down when we got Wilson and claiming he was a "big upgrade" over Kenny. So consider the source.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
just out of curiosity I would've liked to seen if Pickett could have done any better in the Arthur Smith offense. I'm not a Pickett fan per say but just wondering.....

Would’ve been interesting to see how he progressed. However, his training camp and games played in Philadelphia, at this stage, doesn’t look like it would’ve been much different. His leadership skills would’ve been much, much less…MUCH, MUCH less. That we know.

At least he would have been tall enough to see over the linemen. But then he did have the small hands ...

He never will be "that guy". Four years in the league. If you don't have it, you don't have it.

See: Sam Darnold and the 14-3 Vikings.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
I think i am not making myself clear, Fields will not be TB12, but with continued progress in a stable environment he will be Lamar light. Hell, we all laughed at Lamar throwing early years.. Sinse then he is MVP. I hold Fields realistic long term level at top 10, as a combined threat very well integrated into what Steelers want to be: defense and running, running, pounding, spalsh.
He is an EXCELLENT fit for this team

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
An interesting piece that looks at Wilson's splits between man and zone coverages: https://steelersdepot.com/2025/01/th...ussell-wilson/
Summary: Play zone against Wilson. Take away the deep ball. Tackle the checkdown. Field the punt.

I agree. That is where Fields tools put him if he can ever bring it all together.
In absence of a "better" option....the Steelers would be foolish to not pay some FA $$$ to be holding that lottery ticket when it pays out.

I forget to add one other thing....Fields paired with Jeanty (or put your favorite RB prospect here) could really make some noise in the run game. You know, that thing Arthur Smith calls above all else.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Not that easy to go with Fields and expect good results. Were all talking about defenses learning how easy it is to play against Wilson? How about a Qb who cant read defenses? Has accuracy issues but hey, can run like the wind? Is that going to be fixed in one offseason? I doubt it. Hes still a project. I think going back to the draft may be the best option at this point.

It’s not that easy to go with any QB and expect great results. QB isn’t an easy thing and it’s not an easy position to fill.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Sometimes you just go with the best you have. If this season ends in Baltimore, the Steelers won't have a single QB under contract. If Fields wants to stay you have to sign him. Unless it's just something that doesn't make any sense money-wise. I feel like we have to draft a QB as well.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
The default setting in the NFL is mediocre to bad QB play and an unclear path to anything else.
From what I have read, Fields is better than most of the kids coming out.

Even if he's not it's very limited options.

Very true.
And the Steelers would likely need to.use their first or second round pick to take like the 5th through 8th QB off the board. Or trade up.really high in the first to get like the 4th QB.
So the "cost" of going back into the draft could be exorbitant.

Yup, I have heard some that say JJ McCarthy would be the #1 QB prospect if he was in this years draft, compared to the other QB's. Probably not wrong.
I think the Steelers make a contract offer to either Fields or Wilson, but would not be able to get both under the cap. I think Tomlin will want Russ, but if he craps the bed today then Rooney might over rule him and say no thanks.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
That Roethlisberger Jersey with the name scratched out is getting long quick...
Rudolph
Trubisky
Pickett
Fields
Wilson
May be going at a faster pace than the Tim Couch Jersey...lol
