4-game winning streak over. Thanks for absolutely sucking again, Bedard. Get this bum out of the rotation already.
Good game today by the buccos, back to 10 over!
I read somewhere that there is a chance Burnett could play back to back games, tomorrow and the one following the all star break because of re-alignment in the pitching rotation.
A.J Burnett is 10-2!
Are you surprised?
Also his ERA would be better if he would not give 12 points in a game in April
Just wanted to post this for posterity sake. You never know. but, seriously this team is on fire. Last year so far they were winning some games, for sure. This year they are destroying teams.
Pittsburgh 48 37 .565
Great win and a great way to end the first half of the season. I just hope that this can continue for the rest of the season. On 93.7 the Fan, they're stating there's a rumor we might be going after Justin Upton of Arizona.
48-37 .565
Just had to post that again, in case the bottom does eventually fall out on this team.
And I heard about that trade scenario. The D-Backs will likely want Taillon and Marte for Upton. No thanks. Marte and one of their good AAA pitchers? Done deal. Under no circumstances should they trade Taillon unless they're getting either a stud pitcher in return or a big-name power hitter.
McCutchen got a Single and a Groundout out of 2 at bats. not bad considering they are facing the best pitchers in the league.
Hanrahan got a strikeout
NL wins 8-0
Pirates have home field advantage for the World Series!
World Series? I'd just like to see them avoid their annual 10-game losing streak for once. If they finish over .500, I'll be happy, but they aren't going to the postseason even with the 2nd wild card.
I hope the Cardinals and Pirates can both make the playoffs. It would be great for the Pirates.
As long as the Brewers don't, I'll be happy. I'd really like for our guys to plunk both Morgan and Braun repeatedly this weekend...can't stand either of them.
I was obviously joking about the WS.
but he beginning of the season I felt this would be the year we would break .500. Now though, I'm starting to think we have a legitimate shot at winning our division. we had a tough first half going by strength of schedule, but our 2nd half is relativity easy.
which is the opposite of last year, in which we had an easy first half and tough 2nd half.
Well, there has been a lot of talk on the Pirates' site about them going to the World Series...sorry, but it ain't happening. They may have an easier schedule in the 2nd half, but it means nothing if they don't win the games. In fact, I'm predicting it'll be the same old song and dance in Milwaukee this weekend and they'll blow a golden opportunity to put some distance between themselves and the Brewers. And you never know what will happen in Colorado, even if their pitching staff could give up 10 runs to a pee-wee team.
Just did the math. The Pirates have played a total of eighty-five games with a record of forty-eight and thirty-seven. For the second half, the Pirates can go thirty-four and forty-three, that's right, have only thirty-four wins to have a winning season. Here's hoping they do it.
Well let's hope last night was not the start of a long skid. Yes Mcdonald had a rare bad game and sadly I had to watch Braun go something crazy like 4-4, or 3-4 which just pisses me off. Bucs came back with the Walker 3-run blast, but it wasn't enough. Let's hope tonight is a different story, the Bucs have to keep up the pressure to stay ahead of the Reds.
They won't keep it up. Sorry, but that's how I feel. The entire first half was a mirage to suck the fans in once again. When they're scratching for .500 again in mid-August, I won't say I told you so.
They got lucky - the Brewers pretty much handed them the game. They also struck out 15 times to go along with the 12 Ks last night and will probably put up double-digits again with Gallardo on the mound today. Burnett had better be on his game if they have any chance of winning, because they aren't scoring much against him.
Still think we're being sold a lemon, but I guess time will tell.
Well, that was a huge FAIL of a weekend. 44 Ks in 3 games? Are you kidding me???
If they don't take at least 2 of 3 against a pathetic Colorado team, you may as well pack it in for the rest of the season, because the tank job I've been waiting for all season will finally be here. McCutchen, as great as he has been, cannot carry the team by himself.
Oh same old XT. I can't jump the gun just yet. Yes they lost the series to a team who well just seems to always have had our number, and when a single guy gets 14 K's it's hard to win. You can't judge it off one series and I won't. Well see how the Rockies series goes, but I expect a much better offensive and pitching performance.
I was afraid that the team would get off to a slow start, but in no way shape or form am I giving up nor am I worried about the rest of the season. So we lost the series, you can't win every single one. To add to that, historically, the Pirates have played poorly in their stadium. We still have a ton of games left and I still believe in this team! Here's to hoping the Bucs redeem themselves against the Rockies.
Ugh I'm thinking the Cardinals will be fighting for a wildcard, remember there are 2 now. The Reds just seem to have our number this year...
See, the difference between the XT of the Pens thread and the XT of this thread is that I haven't been drinking the Kool-Aid at any point this season. This team has overachieved big time and is NOT as good as their record. Until they show me that this is, in fact, a different team than years' past, then I'm sorry, I can't believe in them.
And I agree, but I think after this series you are trying to prove the point that the season is over, or that the Bucs are back to normal form, but I don't think you can make a single conclusion from 1 series. Yes we are all scared to death that it will be like last season, but we don't win on that field often and at least we weren't swept. It's gonna take another month if not longer to really get an idea of where the Bucs stand on the final stretch.
How is this team not as good as their record shows? They've beaten top notch teams with great pitching, good defense, and good hitting. We have a good starting rotation with Jeff, James, and A.J., our defense has been stellar other than a few mishaps here and there, and our offense is much improved compared to last year. They're hitting the ball much better and hitting even more home runs. We even have a few players (A.J., Rob, and Casey) who have playoff and WS experience that is bringing valuable leadership to this team. To top it all off, the atmosphere is much improved and they all seem to be really enjoying themselves and actually believe in themselves. Winning majority of their games against the Nationals, Phillies, Cardinals, Reds, Indians, and Tigers sounds pretty good to me on account they're all good teams.
He sees it that way because he is at the point where until the season ends and the Pirates are on top or even just have an above .500 record it doesn't matter what they have done. In a way it's hard to blame him with 20 losing seasons, but then yes I agree with you 100%. You cannot even compare this season to last because the Bucs are well above those standards and stats.
