Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
You mean Superbowl champion Kenny Pickett.

Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
Kenny taking snaps in a SB.. smh.
Yeah, he made the wrong decision.

Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
The Kenny Pickett trade/Signing Russ Wilson will probably go down as one of the biggest blunders the Steelers have ever made. But sadly par for the course for the Tomlin Error.
-
Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
Pickett has the same amount of super bowl rings as tomlin.

Especially if rumors are true that Russ couldn't change plays and the Steelers don't want him next year.

Yes, because if the Steelers had kept Pickett somebody else would have had to kneel in victory formation for the Eagles and how were they going to find anybody that can do that as good as Pickett.
BTW, since Fields was actually the replacement for Pickett isn't it Fields career with the Steelers (assuming he has one) vs Pickett's career wherever he ends up playing?

I hope he was kidding about Pickett (I was), but I had no problem with them moving on from him, but why did they totally screw up the process by bringing both RW and Fields in? Pick one and go with it. The whole Fields/RW drama wasn't needed. Again just Tomlin and company making a poor decision and coaching their way to .501 again.

Does anybody think Pickett should have been SB MVP?

No, but he is in the SB stat sheets.

Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
Nothing to do with KP per se, but I did not agree with the idea of switching out QBs there at the end. I would want only the guy I trust who got us there taking those snaps. Yes, the game was over. I was just waiting on the miscue to happen.

That game was over for a long time so even if he had a pick 6 it wasn’t going to matter. Hell, they even let him throw on 4th down instead of punting.
I think this also shows the team likes Kenny. Saquan also had a chance to break the single game rushing record and when the coaches asked him if he wanted to go back in he said “nah, let the young guys eat”
Most players would probably want that record. Peyton and Brady probably stay in to finish the game at QB but Hurts doesn’t seem to care about that.

Yeah, I just meant more for myself personally. I know they were just running the clock out, and the Chiefs even knew they weren't gonna come back. It was kinda like letting the seniors get snaps at the end of the final game in HS or college.
-
Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
Kenny got a bad deal here. Thats my honest opinion. I hope he does well elsewhere, except not for a hated rival. Thats my closing take on KP.

I was shocked just because QB's like to take the last snap and hold onto the football for their first SB win.
I did joke that Kenny might get in because the score was so lopsided.

Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
The Steelers failing to draft Dan Marino was one of their biggest blunders ever. Letting Kenny Pickett go isn't even on the radar. So far, Kenny Pickett is a backup quarterback. Letting a backup quarterback go is not one of the biggest blunders ever. Let's see Kenny earn a starting QB spot and lead his team to a Super Bowl. THEN we can talk about what a blunder it was to let him go.

If having one Super Bowl ring means Tomlin is a HOF coach, then does Kenny's Super Bowl ring mean he is a HOF quarterback? :boink:

No, but the point is that nobody is ever going to think that Cam, Watt, or Minkah should have been a SB MVP.

I think the other part of that is seeing what WE do without him. So far its the
same ole same..
and remember Pickett had the great Matt Canada calling plays for him in Pittsburgh.
We made it hard as hell to succeed.

If the Steelers kept Pickett they would be entering the final year of his contract and gearing up to draft his replacement/sign a new deal. They threw all their chips in on Russell Wilson and went absolutely nowhere.
Instead of arguing whether or not to overpay to have Russ Wilson comeback, and unknown Justin Fields, or riding the Carousel of Flotsam QB's, with a team that's aging and about to lose most of its depth in Free Agency. The Steelers chose "stability" over their future, and now have neither.

That would be funny if the Steelers weren't about to go on their SIXTH starting QB in three years.

So the Eagles thought so highly of the great Kenny Pickett that they traded him away, huh?

unless we go with Russ we will probably have a QB with the same stat.

They traded him to a team where he has a chance to once again be a starting QB, which of course he wasn't going to be in Philly. Maybe it was a case that they liked him so much that they did him a favor similar to the way the Bears did Fields a favor (or thought they did) by trading him to Pittsburgh.

Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
Kenny Pickett got traded to the Browns? Imagine celebrating that as a win when you're looking at what the Steelers going through.
Since trading away Kenny Pickett, the Steelers have now gone through two quarterbacks, alienated another to the point where he fled to the Jets, and are trapped in a bidding war with the Giants to get 41 year old Aaron Rodgers. Now there's word going out that Pittsburgh isn't a desirable place to play.
The grass isn't greener on the other side. Beware of seeking out "upgrades" to what you have and being so quick to run dudes out of here.

I have heard they would bring back Mason Rudolph.. What an embarassment this once respected organization has turned out to be.

Re: Did the Steelers Screw Up with Kenny Pickett?
Its not really about KP, its more an issue of we dont seem to have a coherent plan on finding the long term answer at Qb. Were too focused on a quick fix to satisfy the coach and some of his aging stars on defense. It just may not work out for them the way they want.
2020 was the year to get a replacement for Ben through the draft. Couldve had Jordan Love or perhaps Herbert. We just needed a little more foresight and long term thinking and we’d be better off today.
