Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
You can't give him a contract with how the season is ending. You just can't.

He could go 30/30 for 497 yards and 6 TDs…he shouldn’t be getting a new contract in Pittsburgh. No way.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
I’d give the money to Darnold and get a real LT

No way. Darnold is nothing without O’Connell.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
There are back up that could run a better 2 min drill than what Russ just did.

No way I'm giving Wilson anything

I definitely would not resign Wilson!! I've seen enough!

to be fair Moore became a turnstyle and PF became Jackie Smith. It wasnt only Russ, but i do think he ran out of gas in this last four game stretch. Thats the risk we ran by trotting a 36 year old out there this season.

Russ was bad, O-Line was worse. I’d still take Russ over the WB room they had last season…especially at his price.

2-min drill.
2 yards loss on check down instead of a throw away, tackled in bounds
2 yard gain in bounds
10 yard slant in bounds
2 yard scramble instead of throwing it away, tackles in bounds
sacked.
over throwing a great double move from Pickens(need another look)

i hope the Steelers explore other options. 37 year old Russ will not be better than this years version

History. It just doesn’t click overnight in one offseason. What’s he done to show any kind of talent in years before this season. Also doesn’t hurt to be throwing to the best receiver in the league and one of the top #2 guys.

true, Russ made critical mistakes on the pass to pickens and the 2 yd run. But Moore got beat on the sack and PF dropped a perfect pass to end the drive - and game

Nope
I’d sign Fields before Wilson or Fields to start and Wilson on a one year deal to support Fields.
-
Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Wilson’s price just went to $20M. Fields probably around $12M. Trade for McCarthy and start over.

well we have pickens, just add a WR no 2 and get a good LT and I would be more inclined to go with the younger guy over Russ. Russ will be worse than last year. Or we go to the draft, in 25 or 26. That might be the best idea.

if your going to go with a guy that needs development just trade TJ and Cam and proceed with a rebuild

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
51 yards passing with like 9 minutes left in the game is not what we were all told we were getting.
4.8 yard per attempt is not what we were told we were getting.
Making all the wrong decisions under pressure with the clock running down, missing a player wide open for the win, getting confused by one of the worst defenses in the NFL, and making all those mistakes with years and years of experience is not what we were told we were getting.
The fourth straight game with 17 or fewer points. The worst since 2003.
The four-game losing streak to end the season is the worst since 1998.
It's not what we were told we were getting by many here. You know, the ones that keep insulting anyone that says something they don't agree with.

I don’t think Wilson would sign a one year deal for $25M or lower and Fields might get more than I’d be willing to pay somewhere else.
There will be a good amount of teams needing QBs, but also a good amount in the draft. Either way, I don’t think many are worth a starting NFL job. I’d trade high picks for Justin Herbert if that were an option.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Likely, Russ' final game coming up.

If the Chargers were foolish enough to trade Herbert, I’d give them whatever they wanted.

If Jimmy Harbaugh makes the move and gets his JJ back, Herbert should be available.

Dang! Hadn’t thought of that.
Okay. How much would you give up?
2 firsts? Three?

Yes. A nice three way trade would be perfect...lol.

Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
We have zero leverage and/or negotiation power. Fields has said he would like to stay in Pittsburgh. But we currently have an empty QB room going into 2025. Justin Fields and a draft pick is most likely what we end up with looking at it today.

Wilson's recent play has given the Steelers more leverage than they had. Unless he flips a switch and lights the Ravens up, he's unlikely to get many offers. Or are least long term big $$$ offers. He's gonna get classified as a guy who can't beat good teams any longer.
Wilson will likely have to decide if he wants to roll the dice on potentially being a backup on a playoff team or a starter on some trash team looking to slow okay their prized new draft pick.
To me (and this is likely my biased perspective) Fields will be the more expensive option to sign. Some team aside from the Steelers is going to look at their options, Fields age and physical gifts, and decide that they'd rather have Fields than the 4th QB off the board in a poor class.
And the Steelers will have to do the same calculus. How realistic is it that Fields hits his stratospheric ceiling? And how much do they want to pay to be the ones holding that lottery ticket?
I have no idea what that answer is. All I know is that if I was running a team, I'd rather have Fields than Wilson. And it's not close based on what we currently know.

See, this is a possible option that I was thinking of. I think the issue will be that McCarthy would be graded higher than most if not all of the QB in the upcoming draft, so MIN is going to want something like 2#1 picks at minimum for McCarthy, who is a great prospect but nothing proven at all.
I still think its the best option to re tool at QB, other than shooting for a 3-14 season and a top draft pick to get a QB.
