So how does that give you expertise on what teachers and education are like? Just as my life and training don't give me expertise on cabinetmaking and therefore it would be unwise to follow my statements on how to do carpentry, why should anyone take your word on what teachers are like?
You've made several definitive statements that you are certain you know what is going on with teachers and education. Based on what? The nonsense floating around the internet? You're continuing experiences as a student or teacher? Your family experience?
Further, in 43 years, have you never trained anyone in your field? Passed on your skills and knowledge? If so, congratulations, you are a teacher. Guess that means you can't do anything anymore.

I cited a very well known "saying" followed with a wink emoji. I was just injecting a little levity. Jeez.... why is everyone so sensitive? I found the "concrete cobbler" statement to a bit insulting, so......

Because the continual ridicule of education, teachers, and the derision of expertise is how we get to the point that people put a shirtless rant from Chad the high school dropout on YouTube on the same level as a detailed analysis by a world renowned subject matter expert.
So I’m gonna call BS on it whenever I see it.

That's cool, but I don't recall deriding teachers on here... ever.

Maybe you touched a nerve with the those who teach quote. I never applied that to teachers in classroom setting. We used to joke about guys in training division who got in there because they couldn’t do the job. It was spot on frequently.

Liberal doesn't mean the same thing it did when that guy died 30 years ago. You think it still means "open-mindedness and tolerance," but what you mean is "closed-mindedness, authoritarianism, and racism."

He’s not talking about politics. It’s like words can mean and refer to different things. Far out.

Derision is mocking something or someone with scorn and contempt. While common, the cliched "aphorism" (it is a mangled line from Shaw) is undoubtedly a derisive comment against teachers/teaching. Whether it was intended that way or not that is what it is.
Perhaps if we all listened in school a bit more, we would know what the words we use mean. Personally, I had (and have) little problem with it specifically. But, as I previously stated, the continual mocking of teachers, education, and expertise is a large part of why we are where we are right now. If more people had respect for knowledge and the work needed to gain it, we might actually solve some of the array of problems facing us.

It is hard to be less self-aware than giving the definition of something and then doing the exact same thing yourself in the very next paragraph, yet here we are.
Derision in itself is not something that should automatically be condemned. If the teachers are receiving derision - do they deserve it? Why or why not?
One big (huge!) problem with public discourse is that the pretense of objectivity has broken down in many professions that require objectivity in order to be effective. The media, for one, have completely thrashed their credibility as reporters of information, by obviously filtering that information through the lens of their personal opinions and biases. If the reader knows your opinion or political views, and it is not the opinion page, then you have failed as a reporter, and you deserve derision.
Similarly, if you are a teacher, and your students know your political beliefs, then you have failed as a teacher and deserve derision. Even more so than a reporter, because at least the media are dealing with adults who have developed their own understanding of the world, and are more likely to question what they are told and seek out information on their own from multiple sources. Teachers who inject their own political leanings are abusing a position of trust and taking advantage of children who are much more easily influenced. That deserves derision of the highest order.
Basically an entire generation has been ruined, because the adults who were trusted to be objective have pushed their own personal bullshit on them. It is an almost unimaginable crime. And who are the ones doing it? Why, surprise surprise, it's almost entirely liberals.

Did you see the wink after the quote , way too sensitive. Just like most aphorisms there is some truth but not absolute. Its like any generalization, not fair to ones that don’t fit the criteria. White men cant jump is certainly true to most but we can find exceptions. Unfortunately there are teachers who have no business in that profession. The good ones are worth their weight in gold though. How do you feel about generalizing cops into a certain category?

Cops that shoot unarmed or fleeing folks? Pretty okay. Cops that don’t do that? Not okay.
Feel better now?

Im hoping you mixed those two opinions up. Yeah my opinions of teachers is similar, ones that dont push their own social and political views pretty okay, ones that do not okay.

That’s what I meant. That I’m okay generalizing about bad cops.

No im not kidding, did you see the effing wink. You libs are so thin skinned and take everything literal. Mojouw just showed me 2 guys on here dont get sarcasm. You guys arent as bright as you think you are, most libs aren’t. The aphorism has been around for 100 years, come out under the rock.

For sake of argument. The aphorism that law enforcement attracts bullies and dudes who can’t hack in the military has been around for about as long as the snide remarks about teachers. Is that something your just as okay with? If not, why not?

Two part answer , if a guy puts a wink emoji on it , Im not taking it literally. I believe it to be in jest. I didn’t post it so I dont know for sure.
I believe law enforcement attracts alfa male types for sure, just like fire department. I saw it with my own eyes. Percentage wise I would say 20 percent of young dudes come in with “Im bitchin” attitude, and my badge makes me cool. With age I believe it subsides in most. Ive never heard or thought of cops couldn’t hack military, for one cops make a boat load more. Atleast in California. I am ok with certain stereotypes about cops, there is some truth to their machismo almost like short man syndrome which I believe in as well, what im not ok with is labeling them racists. Ive never seen any cop treat an innocent black poorly just because of color. Ive been more impressed with their professionalism when I thought guys deserved to be restrained.

Yup, kind of like "stay in school or you will end up being a janitor." Or, "trade school is for dumb kids". Generalizations that are unfair to those that dont fit the criteria.

That's some funny stuff considering what you've posted in here about George Floyd.

Well, except in the minds of the real no-hopers, who think any time anything bad happens to a black person, it must be because of racism and it's reason to be outraged. But those people are so far detached from reality that they can just be laughed off.

Floyd was a scumbag. Deny, deflect, show a monkey screwing a football Quote partial sentences, do whatever you always do. Changes nothing, dude was a Thug.

Re: Will the Coming Season be Different Because of COVID-19?
So because he was a "Thug" he deserved to die? His last arrest was 7 years ago. Since that time he has repeatedly worked in youth outreach programs in his original hometown of Houston and his adopted home of Minneapolis. So clearly "Thug" doesn't mean hardened criminal.
Does it mean raging drug addict? Because that is not as true as Candace Owens and social media want you to believe. https://www.medpagetoday.com/blogs/working-stiff/86913
"The death certificate's "other significant conditions" -- Floyd's natural heart disease and the presence of drugs of abuse in his tested blood -- do not excuse the officers, nor should they cause anyone to blame the victim. They are there on the death certificate because those findings, in the opinion of the medical examiner, would have made his death more likely. They are not the cause of death. The cause of death is police restraint."
"At the start of the video, Floyd has already appeared to have lost bladder function. This can be a sign of medical distress. Floyd specifically mentions "the knee in my neck," a coherent statement and not the grunting and screaming we typically hear in deaths from excited delirium."
"The fact that Floyd appears to be talking to the officer and the officer is taking notes suggests that Floyd is engaging in dialogue. The gait disturbance suggests that Floyd may have been under the influence of alcohol or some other drug that could affect his balance. The grimace as he is being handled suggests that the cuffs are on too tight or that he is in pain during this encounter as the officer pulls up on his cuffed arms. Here's what I don't see: I don't see someone who appears to be suffering from excited delirium when drugs of abuse can cause agitation, hyperthermia, and sudden death. Floyd is not naked or dressed inappropriately for the weather. He does not appear to be sweating profusely. He does not appear to be agitated or violent."
So what we have is a man who is patronizing his local store, a store that he was a regular customer at for over a year, and an employee had recently been warned about counterfeit bills. The owner of the store claims that he was working that day, the cops wouldn't have even been called. The teenage employee did call the cops. Was the bill fake? Did Floyd know it was fake? No one seems to be sure of that as of right now. Perhaps during the trial of the officers, if the bill is admitted into evidence, we may finally learn the veracity of this claim.
George Floyd may have gotten high on painkillers and weed sometime in the last day or so prior to his arrest. That is what any reasonable reading of the toxicology supports. He almost certainly wasn't in a drugged out stupor during his arrest, and may not have even been intoxicated. Don't take my word for it or anyone elses, go read up on how drugs interact with the body and the traces they leave for a postmortem examination. The information is readily available and can be found in readily digestible forms on the internet. Again, read something by an actual doctor or toxicologist, not a social media content creator.
Long story short...an individual with a history of minor offenses and who may or may not have taken illegal drugs in the last few days did exactly what to deserve to be executed before he was tried for his alleged crimes? Clearly, Floyd was an ongoing danger to himself and his community. A true "Thug" that needed to trial or jury to find him guilty.

Re: Will the Coming Season be Different Because of COVID-19?
No he didn’t deserve to die at the time he was killed. Not the martyr some make him out to be though
