The US airports and all airlines required mask's onboard, however when I arrived in Copenhagen it was like the entire world changed. The airport was calm and no one had a mask on. My flight to Stockholm was just about an hour and Arlanda was even more calm with no mask's in sight.
I hopped on the the train from Arlanda airport to Central station in Stockholm and again no mask's in sight. At Stockholm Central I saw one older gentleman reading a newspaper with a mask over his chin and no other. I then hopped on the fast train to Norrköping to meet my wife, no mask's in sight. We had some business to take care of in town and we stayed the night, no mask's anywhere. Next morning fast train home and no mask's on the train or in my wife's hometown.
Some seem to attach mask's duty to being a liberal issue back in the US. Well Sweden is a fairly liberal country but they do not want to wear mask's. Swedes are very practical and common sensed people, they don't panic and jump on the bandwagon and follow what everyone else is doing, be it covid, the economy or anything else. They find what works for them and do it. I have heard Rush Limbaugh, Bernie Sanders and many other attach "socialism" in a good and bad way to Sweden many times and they have all been wrong.
Just a few thoughts about the difference in Sweden:
Covid is not a political issue.
Swedes (young & old) live outdoors
They watch very little TV....ie 24 hour "news"
They have more freedom.
They are living life as usual
The government appealed but didn't restrict business, schools or gatherings as in other countries.
They had a 5 billion dollar surplus in August
They have taken a humble approach as they have for centuries and will tweak and adjust as need when needed.
It's wonderful to be retired and wish you all well. :thumbsup:
