If it means does he have the physical tools to be one of the 10 best wideouts in the league....then yes. He is that.
Like so many guys, Pickens has to merge the physical and mental aspects of the game. Going in to year 3 in Green Bay, people wanted Davante Adams cut or traded. Then at times in year 3 and completely in year 4, Adams became the dominant WR he made his career on being.
Pickens is still got to work it all out.
so he’s potentially a true no 1. But for all intents and purposes he's our defacto no 1 because there is no one else on the team

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Rodgers doesn’t like Williams or Wilson and it’s rumored goes not fond of Hall either.

Sure. And that is different than at anytime since they traded Johnson in what respect?
The Steelers telegraphed this decision and have consistently told us where their priorities are at. It is not in acquiring another big name wideout.
Only supposed media "experts" and excited fans have ever indicated that the Steelers really wanted another big name high profile wideout. The Steelers certainly haven't.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Adams to Jets is a done deal. Like I said in another thread, let the Jets have that contract and the two geriatric players.

You really don’t think the Steelers pursued Aiyuk and Adams?

Not in a big aggressive way.
I suspect they made an offer. Stuck to it. And when asked to top a competing offer, stuck to their original offer.
I don’t believe they were ever being seriously considered by the Raiders.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
This thread is too long, did anyone bring up Adam Thielen? Yes he's 34, yes he's a #2 type guy but he is a very good receiver that had great years in Minnesota. He's stuck on a horrible Panthers team and could be had for very little. He would clearly be a rental short term guy but he would at least give the QB (whoever it is) a target that knows how to run routes and get open. Although I question if anyone can get open in Arthur Smiths offense which appears only slightly more efficient than Canada's offense.

Thielen is injured. hamstring injury.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
DK Metcalf
Christian Kirk
DeAndre Hopkins
Tommy Tremble
Hunter Henry
Any interest in pursuing any of these players in trade?

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Metcalf
Kirk
The rest, you are just doing this all over again next year.

I can see a move for Hopkins. He's not what he use to be but he can still play, and is an ideal vet for Pickens.
Not sure the Raiders trade another WR, but I like Jakobi Meyers. Has a history of being a good deep threat, and is a willing blocker.

kirk seems extremely over paid for what he brings he just hasnt put up the numbers to warrant that kinda cash and he certainly wouldn't do it here in this system esp as the 2 we just do not throw it enough

DK Metcalf is an $18M hit next season. Then he is a free agent in '26. A trade may be possible with an extension definitely doable.

Metcalf would solve a great deal of problems both short and long term.
More I think about, the more I think Hopkins might be the “best” option.
Just park his locker next to Pickens. Tell Pickens he’s to follow him around and learn how to harness his talent.

Who’s the common denominator? Rodger’s such a douche ! Wilson is a stud from the whole 3 games I’ve seen him. Run after catch is impressive.

4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and all this media hoopla and bad rumors will be over .....
cant wait

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Steelers are one of the three teams
Talking to the Jets about Mike Williams. Saints and Chargers are, reportedly, the other two.

It can't hurt. Van Jefferson is trash.
BUT...Mike Williams is always hurt and is really living off of one good season 3 years ago at this point.
I wish they could just loot the Titans and convince them that they don't want both of Hopkins and Burks. Then Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller could go away. Far away.

Why would Seattle trade DK?

maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Seattle was talking about trading him before the season started. He’s the only one on that list I would be interested in. The rest are garbage or they don’t need another TE on the roster.
I’d take Burke as well if he were available. Williams I would do for no more than a sixth round pick and that might be debatable in my head.
-
Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
I don't think anyone actually connected with Seattle has every had the trade Metcalf thought out loud. It is all just internet cap-o-logists speculating that the math might get dicey for the Seahawks.
In all this WR conversation....I think we need to take a look at it from another direction. What does each of the WR's do well and what do the Steelers need?
For instance, Mike Williams (in theory) runs along the boundary and out competes the DB for the ball. That is his path to success. Who else does that describe? Pickens. The Steelers already have a healthier and possibly better version of Mike Williams on the roster.
Christian Kirk had his best seasons when he ran almost totally out of the slot. Two problems with that. One, Smith doesn't run a ton of slot WR set-ups. Two, isn't that what the Steelers just drafted Roman Wilson to do?
Burke from Tennessee is another big bodied boundary type WR. So maybe not the best match up. BUT....I keep coming back to this no matter how I think about it....DeAndre Hokins.
Hopkins was once a boundary WR, but advancing AGE syndrome has him coming off that role. And, at least based on the few games I watched in 2023, he was being used all over the field in the short and intermediate areas as a "possession WR". And that is EXACTLY what the Steelers are missing. Hopkins doesn't help with that long term....but he certainly can (or at least probably) for 10 games this season.
The Steelers do not need another big bodied ball winning WR that works down the field along the perimeter. Of course, they and every team in the league will take one, but that is not where their WR is totally deficient. They are missing a possession WR. They do not have a guy that profiles that way right now.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Hunter Renfrow is free and available...there's your possession receiver and anyone that wanted Tyler Boyd, should be happy with that signing. BTW...how's Byod doing? 13 for 127 and 0 TDs...5 Games. Dodged that bullet?

At this point, Renfrow can’t be worse.
I suspect the problem is not Tyler Boyd but Mayo Levis.
Is that Mason Rudolph’s music…?

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options

Only a matter of time before Mason takes over full time it says. I get the Titans most Sundays and I won't blame them a bit if they make the switch now. Mason is the better QB of the 2, IMO. And it's not really that close. Don't get me wrong, I'm also of the opinion MR is a NFL backup. But Levis needs to be hanging out with Josh Rosen on Sundays.

Maybe the DK Metcalf talk was all made up. It's still the best idea I've heard/read.

last I knew he was on IR , cant trade guys on IR ... if he is off IR then he would be a great piece IMO , while older he is also dirt cheap by todays standards and if he has half of his game in tact that makes him 60% better than Van Jefferson

maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
If the Steelers are going to do something, the price just went way up in the last two days. Buccaneers lose Evans AND Godwin (possible season). Chiefs lose JuJu. Niners lose Jennings, Samuel, Aiyuk (season). Not to mention teams like the Chargers that have nothing at that position.
-
Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
If this team is going to make noise in January, it needs a WR2. I had slight hopes for Roman but he must be in the doghouse.
-
Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Rams are calling teams about moving Cooper Kupp. They want a second round pick and will retain a lot of his salary.
I’d do it. Improves Steelers, weakens Chiefs and those other needy AFC teams.
