They should really just do a 12-game season. Division and Conference games and that leaves 4 weeks open for make up games. Easy to just fill those weeks up as they go...

As soon as life returned to normal, everyone would see that nothing bad was happening and it was all a big mistake, and they would be PISSED. Like, a "public officials being thrown in jail or dragged through the streets" kind of pissed. So they can't let it get back to normal too fast. The longer it is dragged out and made the center of everyone's existence, the more it becomes larger-than-life, and the more people will grudgingly say ok, the initial reaction was not completely out of line. That is the ONLY thing it is about at this point.
