Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Pickens is not consistent enough because he lacks leadership qualities. Sometimes a WR needs to do a little extra to bail out his QB who might be running for his life behind a leaky OL or simply try improving everyday to be the best at his position instead of thinking he already knows it all already.

AB had no leadership qualities. But he wanted to be the best WR in football and worked to that end. Pickens doesn't have the want to.

If we start comparing our WRs to AB they are all gonna fall short. How does Pickens compare to DJ, JuJu, Bryant? Guys we expected to be bigger stars here but didn't pan out.
If the QB told GP, 'I'm going to throw the ball to the chalk 30 on the left side, you need to beat your defenders to it', he would win that route 90%of the time. He has that level of talent. How do you focus it?

I think he's MB 2.0.

Did Roman W get any snaps yesterday? I don't even know what number he is.

Roman Wilson played 5 snaps but didn't see any targets.
He wears #10.

Pickens is already a much better player than Martavis Bryant ever was.

He's better, but I wouldn't say much. Pickens had a very good 2023, but 2024 as the #1, it's been less than impressive. He's already got as many drops as all last year. And has whiffed on several catchable balls that weren't counted as drops.

Here are Martavis Bryant's career numbers. https://www.pro-football-reference.c...B/BryaMa00.htm
Bryant had 145 receptions for 2183 yards over 5 seasons. One season he was suspended for the entire season, so 4 seasons of stats. He had AB on the other side of him taking away all the coverage while with the Steelers. One season was with the Raiders where he was active for eight games.
Here is what Pickens has done so far in his career. https://www.pro-football-reference.c...P/PickGe00.htm
Six games into his third season, Pickens has 141 receptions for 2304 yards. For two seasons now, he has been the WR that other teams double-team or roll coverage his way.
Pickens is not only much more productive, but he is doing it facing far more coverage than Bryant ever did. He has not missed much time due to injury or suspension, and he is by far the best WR on the team. I know he is a bit of a headcase, but there is no denying his talent or his accomplishments as a receiver. He has accomplished far more than Bryant ever did while being the WR threat that the other team is focusing on trying to take away.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Kinda not even close to a debate here. Pickens could be a generational talent…as AB was…he has to put in the work. He has the talent, the drive and focus is what is questionable right now. The drops are focus related. He doesn’t normally drop balls that hit him in both hands.

I already had looked up those stats before I responded. What is impressive about Pickens stats this year, exactly? Is it all the touchdowns?
I already acknowledged that he was better than MB. But my point is that he's closer to MB than he is AB. Potential aside.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
With Adams to the Jets, Mike Williams (not a huge fan) should be an easy get at a base salary of five million. Would be trying to get Wilson (little more challenging) as well.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Chase Claypool is still out there.

I'm not saying that Pickens is as good as AB. He is nowhere near that level right now.
The point about facing double-teams is a real thing. Bryant NEVER got doubled while AB was there. Pickens now gets doubled all the time. That is the huge difference. Bryant had better opportunities because AB drew most of the coverage. Pickens has less opportunities because he is the one being doubled and creating more opportunities for every other receiver on the field. Pickens is currently the "AB" of this team. Martavis Bryant was the more talented version of Van Jefferson for that team.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
The detractor for WRs coming to the Steelers have to be the potential numbers. Seeing a consistent 140-150 passing yards per game tells these guys a couple of things. Firstly the 1980s style of offense the Steelers run and Secondly the fact Fields isn't a very good passing QB.

Sammie Coates is Van Jefferson!!
If GP wants $25M a year he better put up monster stats while being doubled. I think he’s too troubled to do it.

Amari Cooper no longer an option…traded to the Bills.

It is getting to be "everyone gets fired" time in Cleveland. This is likely the first step in that direction. Coach or GM goes next?

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
2 big WR trades and neither broke the bank draft capital wise , it makes me wonder just how hard they are trying for a WR

Adams was likely ONLY trying to get to Rodgers.
No way the Browns trade Cooper to a division rival.
I think they could've offered the world for either guy and it wouldn't have happened.
All that being said, I have never believed they have been or are trying all that hard to get another WR. I suspect they need one far more than they will admit. But I don't think it is a priority.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Are we even sure Pickens is a true no 1? I guess that speaks to our anemic passing game.

Depends what you want "true no 1" to mean.
If it means is he refined and developed enough in his craft to just be always open at all times, no matter what....then nope. He's not there yet.
If it means does he have the physical tools to be one of the 10 best wideouts in the league....then yes. He is that.
Like so many guys, Pickens has to merge the physical and mental aspects of the game. Going in to year 3 in Green Bay, people wanted Davante Adams cut or traded. Then at times in year 3 and completely in year 4, Adams became the dominant WR he made his career on being.
Pickens is still got to work it all out.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Mike Williams on the block but he has produced less than CA3 thus far and not a ton more than Van Jefferson soo why throw draft capital at him and he is likely do to get hurt again anyways

I figured that, Aaron Rodgers threw Mike Williams under the bus for allegedly running a wrong route on his late interception against the Bills last night.

Yeah Aaron Rodgers is the perfect one , nothing is ever his fault just ask him or his mom , dad and brother who none of them associate with him .But wouldn't be shocked if it really was Mike Williams fault either .... that said if it wasnt a timing route you would think he would pull it down / throw it away / find another target or run but I didn't watch the game so not sure of the route
