Martin needed to be more patient there.
Hitting into 3 double plays was the team's undoing tonight.
Any chance we had just left the ballpark!
IDK, I understand why he thought we needed runs. My problem with Hurdle tonight is sticking with Milancen in a critical situation again. He has not been reliable for over a month. Still, Hurdle is manager of the year. He has done a stellar job of changing the Pirates' culture.
Not arguing that, but he is a good middle reliever, and I think he has a place here in Pittsburgh. Maybe Wilson and him swap out?
7-1, fucking pathetic! I know, I know, first time in 85,000 years since Pirates have been in the playoffs, but to allow two pitchers, one in our house, one in theirs, to hold the Pirates to one run each. Pathetic!
No matter what though, the Pirates can/hopefully will build off of this and come back stronger next year. Was fun watching the ride, and look forward to watching many more. Hope for a rematch next year, game 5/7 in St. Louis, and we shut the overpaid team up!
Pinch hitting for Cole in the 5th was stupid! Cole is our ace! You don't take out your ace to lead off the fifth inning!
Great season Pittsburgh! Loved watching ya every chance I had. Learn from it, come back, and lets do it again, but this time shut this overpaid Cardinals team the hell up!
Again, GREAT SEASON PITTSBURGH PIRATES, GREAT SEASON!
Hopefully, the Pirates watching the Cards celebrate will be like the Pens watching the Red Wings celebrate their last championship.
Good season pirates. My cardinals were just a tad better. Hope the pirates keep it up next year.
This is the second time that you've called the Cardinals "overpaid". Where exactly are you getting that?
They're the #11 team in MLB as far as salaries go. They're also one of the most consistently good teams in the majors year in and year out and don't go out and spend large amounts of money on free agents.
Can't be sad....the 2013 Pirates brought the love of baseball back to the Burgh! And it brought memories of my grandad at the kitchen table listening to the radio because he didn't like to watch the games on TV. Next season will be strange.....we actually have expectations! Thanks for the thrills, Buccos!
It's ok to break the rules this one time......Raise the Jolly Roger to the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates! :jolly:
Lower the Jolly Roger.
The Dream Season is over. Thanks Pirates for a fantastic season and restoring baseball to Pittsburgh. The first winning season in 21 years.
I can just only hope this isn't the end and is just the beginning.
Congrats to your Cardinals. :drink: Hope they beat the Dodgers.
I still think it would have been a better game if Hurdle had left Cole in for at least a couple more innings. But in the end the Pirates weren't quite good enough. No shame in losing to a better team if you give it your all.
I really hope we bring back Byrd.
I know they are #11, and yes, they are consistently good. Just a huge proponent of a MLB salary cap, and I guess I was just venting that point in the thread.
Great season for the Cardinals and I wish them luck the rest of the playoffs. If the A's don't make it, then I will be rooting for your Cardinals.
Well, they took the Cards to the limit, but ultimately the better team won. Congrats to the Cards...now please beat LA.
No one in the Pirates' clubhouse has anything to be ashamed of. They had a hell of a season. Hopefully this is the beginning, and not the end, of the winning ways.
Thank you Buccos. I may have doubted you and put you down a LOT this season, but I'm damn proud of you.
It's all good. I just don't want anyone to confuse the Cards with the Yankees, Angels, etc. Much like the Steelers, the Cards have spent their money on keeping their own players.
The Pirates had a great season and I know that we're gonna have many more great battles to come.
Was a great season, even though we all wanted them to go further in the playoffs, just making it to the playoffs this year and getting a few wins was all a bonus and gives us something to look forward to next season.
:jolly:
This season was definitely awesome by the Buccos. It was nice seeing winning baseball back in Pittsburgh this year. Hopefully it continues.
Nah, I wasn't confusing the Card's with the Red Sox, Yankee's, etc. Just a little venting, but all is good. :drink:
Now that the A's are out of it, I will be cheering for your Red Birds to win the Pennant. I may have to log in a few beers in the "beer snobs" thread while cheering them on.
Hopefully you are right about many more battles to come, but the rest of them just need to have different outcomes :wink02:
At the beginning of the year Clint said that the Pirates would win 95 games and everyone thought he was crazy. Lo and behold they won 94!
As disappointed as I am, it is hard for me not to feel great about this season. Maybe it's because of the bad times that these times seem so good. I have never been so excited about Pirates baseball!
Bought my season tickets already let's go Bucs!

:drink: The series with the Dodgers starts tonight. Everyone seems to be picking the Dodgers even though the Cards tied for the best record in baseball and played in the toughest division.
Hurdle is a good manager and the Pirates are loaded with young talent, as are the Cards. We'll be battling for the division for years to come.
That was the Senators. The Younger, inexperienced Pens were outclassed by the Senators and watched them celebrate on home ice, then Ottawa put up pictures of the after-game handshake, which inspired to Pens to clobber them the next year.
I too hope this same thing happens to the Pirates. They took a very experienced, very talented Cardinals team to five games, but St. Louis went for the rubbing in the final win. They won, but wanted to humiliate the Pirates doing so. Sitting there in the dugout watching the Cards celebrating a blowout loss in front of their home crowd will be a lasting impression. I know they were feeling frustrated, angry, and maybe even a little lingering resentment.
The Pirates battled so damn hard to win in 21 years, and then having to see what is basically the NL equivalent of the New York Yankees win again at their expense has to sting. The Cards win ALL the time, their constant success likely pissing them off and driiving them. I know these Pirates are hungry. They want the postseason. They want Division titles. They want World Series titles. They want the accolades. They want the success the Cardinals have had.
Now what remains is what the Pirates do with this loss. Hopefully they can channel this into future success in 2014 and beyond. I can see a nasty rivalry brewing in the Central if this keeps up.
Well, they did have to watch the Red Wings celebrate before finally capturing the cup, but you point about the Sens is a good one no doubt.
Sorry I'm late, but great job by the Pirates this year. It was absolutely wonderful to see the Pirates have a winning record and make it to the NLDS. Andrew should win the MVP award, Fransisco should get the Come Back Player of the Year, and Clint should get Manager of the year for the turn around he helped create. I'm absolutely proud of this team and of the front office as well. They made great decisions and brought in good players. So with that being said, I hope the Dodgers win the NLCS even though they're down 2-0. I hope that Byrd and Morneau can be resigned. I think Byrd would be a great mentor for Greg when he comes up from the minors something this season. I also hope the front office can cut some of the dead weight off this team and get some good quality players for backups.
