Perhaps the issue is that whoever is running the president does not want the country to have a strong economy or a rising stock market, or for that matter abundant goods at low prices, or affordable housing or healthcare, or peace and prosperity.

They'd rather you think things are bad, and that's the normal state of things, and only the government can help. It is remarkably effective at gaining the respect of the least intelligent - the ones who only read the headline, and think a semiautomatic rifle is the same thing as a machine gun.

I would love to see the reactions here if the current administration, or any US administration, implemented the policies that have historically had the most positive impact on inflation. The personal liberty crowd would have an aneurysm. Price and wage controls. Significant changes in banking and monetary policies. The cries of socialism and whatever other buzzwords seemed scary enough would be deafening.

I could give a fig if Biden is President or not. Honestly, what can the US do at this point? Shit costs alot because of issues at the point of manufacture or the point of shipping. Can't force the factories open. Can't tell the shipping companies how much to charge for a container to ride across the ocean.

And all those proposed pipelines that everyone likes to howl about. They wouldn't change the cost of gas at the pump or things on the store shelves. We could have 12 keystone pipelines turned on full blast and it wouldn't change production at all. Moving oil from the oil fields isn't the issue. It is the massive global resurgence in demand that allows those oil fields to charge ruinous prices. Domestic oil production has increased for most of the past 2 decades and it was barely even a speed-bump to price surges.

It is very telling that the first place you go is that the government could fix these problems with strong actions, arguably amounting to massive overreach, and that the conservative stupids are just too simple-minded to see it, because muh freedom. Talk about forest and trees.

The real issue is that the government made this mess in the first place, and now we get to clean it up, because the only solution that involves the government means even more unpleasantness and more meddling, and is just as likely to leave things worse as it is to leave them better. Your first idea, naturally, is to run to the government for help; and the second is that none of it is the government's fault, so what do we want them to do about it? How about the third option - we are furious with the government for creating this mess, and would rather they fuck off and never do those things again.

You do realize that all of this stuff didn't just randomly happen on its own, don't you? Like, shortages, inflation, supply chain disruptions, a huge decrease in economic activity combined with the sudden appearance of 40% of GDP in funny money - that didn't just randomly happen on its own?
