So Brandon Johnson was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad. Roman Wilson will likely sit out again and not get a helmet.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Roman Wilson must not be a very bright bulb, when Tomlin speaks of him it sounds like he doesn't know the offense very well yet .... I mean whats he been doing with all his time if that is the case??
either that is Wilson is Part of the trade package being offered to the Raiders and they do not want to risk his health or it seems to me he would be suiting up ...Its clear you do not have to be all that good to replace Van Jefferson's production (I am using the word production in the loosest possible terms here)

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Something has Roman in Tomlin's dog house.

Part of a trade package is interesting. That's typically an NBA type move but could be possible.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Smith likes “his guys”.
Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller and CPat are “his guys”.
They’re gonna play.
Wilson is a rookie with no practice and no track record on special teams.
Shaping up to be a redshirt year.

I forgot about him. I wish Smith would too.
Actually, can we get rid of all of them except CPat? He's fun.

Tomlin said the reason that Wilson hasn't played because he wasn't understanding the offense.

And I don’t think he will play much whenever he reaches that “understanding “.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
I wouldn't imagine Adams would wanna come to a place like Pittsburgh with the Arthur Smith offense, not enough opportunity for big yardage games. Fields really needs a 2nd WR capable of running NFL quality routes and actually getting open.

"Steelers WR Roman Wilson isn't the only Wilson who has been healthy for weeks but remains a healthy scratch, nor is he anywhere near close to the more important of the two. But can we get a look at him anytime soon? I'm asking for a friend". - Ben Roethlisberger

Getting open is a route concept that the Steelers should really explore.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Van Jefferson is just awful. He has been for almost his entire career.
But Arthur Smith loves him some Van.
It has been a couple seasons since I've had a guy I was rooting for each week to get cut.
I think Jordan Dangerfield was the last one.
I've found my guy. Scotty Miller too.

I don't know...there were some around here that thought the WR room was good enough to compete. Turns out it's just as the others thought...a high end #2 WR and a bunch of 4, 5, 6 guys...only Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers is making that work...

I thought it would be bad. Just not this bad.
When some dude can show up the week of the game and look like the second best WR on the team; that’s pretty bad.

I thought they'd be bad. Pickens has never proven himself to be a number one. Definitely has the talent for it. If Aiyuk arrived, as was reported (lol), That gives this room a 1a, 1b, a bunch of 4, 5, 6 and Roman Wilson...who only Tomlin knows what his deal is. If Adams were to arrive, that gives you a 1, very good 2, Roman Wilson, and a couple 4s and 5s.
I feel like they have these guys, Scottie Miller and Calvin Austin, that if they used them properly, they could be decent players. Miller was having a pretty good season in 2020 & 2021 until the Bucs signed AB. Since then he's been garbage. Calvin Austin could certainly play a Tyreek Hill type role. He's got good hands, speed, etc. Van Jefferson, nah & Roman Wilson...well...
So really they are rolling with a "disgruntled" (and rightfully so) George Pickens and nothing else.

Miller has only ever looked good with Brady basically handing the ball to him with super accurate passes against hole in zone. The old Wes Welker role. At least that is what I have seen. I may be wrong. It happens a lot.
Van Jefferson is useless but looks the part....so Arthur Smith is infatuated with him because he likes big body WRs. To that, I tell Smith that there are dozens of 6 foot plus 200+ pound WRs leaving the college ranks every year. Call literally any one of them.
CA3 is useless. I am sorry. But it is time to admit this guy was a super-duper miss. He is certainly fast. And he is tough as nails. So what? He has the catch radius of a T-Rex. You have to put the ball on his little itty bitty body, or he doesn't make the catch. That works in college. But this is the next step up and his game didn't come up with it. He either has to find a way to start snagging balls that aren't perfectly thrown or he can get on with his life's work. Even at his best version, he is a gadget guy. Hill is fast and smaller but he is complete WR. CA3 is a luxury fun piece for a complete offense, not a building block for an offense trying to come together.
Roman Wilson must be dumb or something. Maybe he's Canadian and they think he is slow, eh? I don't know. But apparently he has been healthy for a week plus and not able to move the needle to get a hat on gameday? Some dude just walked off the Saints PS and into the game against the Cowboys. I could try and be positive and figure it is something that is keeping Wilson from playing....but I just can't shake the feeling that if someone can play with like a practice and a walkthrough and Wilson can't after being here for months....something deeper is wrong.
Honestly, why this team isn't cycling WRs through the PS like I change socks...I have no idea. There are SO MANY WRs that come through college offenses that throw a ton. Not all of them are currently rostered in the NFL. Go find about 10 of them and sign the best 5.

How do we know they haven't done that already and these are those 5?
Roman Wilson is not on the inactive list for this week. Maybe he does get some snaps against the Raiders. Not sure why he has to be 100% with the playbook to get some game time.
George Pickens is aWR1. Just keep throwing him the ball.
CA3 is our punt returner. He also plays WR. He is very quick as well as fast. Keep him on the field for more than 3 plays and see what happens maybe.
This WR room is a far cry from the best we have seen here. BUT...I do think that adding in our TEs and saying our 'pass catchers', we have the ability to be more productive on offense than what we're seeing.
All my opinion.

I agree that they can be far more productive with what they have. I also think that what they have is not enough. It is likely something that is going to be an issue for the entire season.
Who knows, maybe each week the offense expands and by the latter portion of the season, some of these issues are put to bed.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Wilson wasn’t on the inactive list last week until game day.
In Millers defense, I think he’s only ever had Brady throwing to him…maybe a season of Winston? Can’t disagree with anything Mojouw says there. Been feeling the same since the DJ trade. I’d still have done the DJ trade but I’d have done some things differently afterwards to improve that room.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Seems like the team put all their eggs in the Aiyuk basket after the DJ trade. In hindsight, not too wise.

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
Was Aiyuk a possibility at that time?

Re: maybe the steelers should focus on other WR options
I think one thing is clear: Pickens is not a WR1. He is physically talented and makes difficult catches but drops too many passes and doesn’t give a 100. This team needs a Devante Adams.

I agree 199%.
Except, have you seen Davante Adams' contract? He would have to agree to restructure it before we were willing to give up draft compensation for him.

Titans dropped to 1-5, maybe they part ways with Ridley or Hopkins. Or another team throwing in the towel. They aren’t Adams but won’t be as expensive either.
