"That's been a recurring theme for Pickett. His effectiveness has been limited by his inability to throw the ball down the field, left to screens and checkdowns in an attempt to move the offense. A batted down pass and yet another screen to Campbell, this one going nowhere, marked the end of Pickett's summer work."

It’s like the movie Groundhog Day, except it doesn’t get better.

And what did all that "stability" get them, exactly? By my reckoning, it cost the team one Super Bowl when a certain journeyman QB played exactly like a journeyman QB on the biggest stage and handed Jerry Jones a Lombardi Trophy on a silver platter while the other QB who actually didn't even rise to the level of journeyman cost the team 2 more trips to the Super Bowl by tossing 6 INTs in 2 AFCCGs.
It got them a lot more mileage than no playoff wins in seven (going on eight) years. We had a shot. Until we lost.
Quote:
Why? In either scenario, the Super Bowl is a pipe dream, especially when you play in the same conference as Mahomes, Allen and Burrow (when he can actually stay healthy).
Let me answer that question with a question. Are we contending? What is the end goal? Have the Steelers been getting close as of late and falling just short like in the Cowher years? No we haven't. We're nowhere near "close". The Steelers have hung around the middle of the road since 2018.
We're acting like this is some Juggernaut Steelers team only a piece away and Pickett was the problem, instead of acknowledging the fact that this team is very far away and needs to rebuild and we just slip further the more we put it off. The Steelers have held off a true rebuild since Ben retired and Pickett was put in place to be an early building block. Instead of swallowing our pride and eating a shit sandwich with a young team for a year like in 2003, we chased mediocrity. This team gets worse every year just to maintain "no losing seasons". Speaking of Joe Burrow, his first year he was named the starter and the Bengals sucked. But they got Chase and got better. Pickett was not starter Day 1 and was thrust in to save Tomlin's precious streak.
Negative point differential every year since 2021 and the team has been getting clobbered in blowout losses. Facing the Chiefs and Bills? They just get destroyed.

Pretty much only a piece away at this stage. They have Ben in his prime now and this is easily a Super Bowl Contender if not favorite.

Really? Can you name one facet or advantage on this Steelers team that is Playoff or Super Bowl caliber? What is this current team truly elite at?

Do you watch much football? This isn't the 70s. Teams are not elite on both sides of the ball any longer. The Steelers defense is top 5. With Ben, they'd be top 5 in offense. That would pout them on par with the other contenders.

The Steelers Defense was ranked 22nd last season, but lets say they are Top 5. What is the Defense good at to make them a Top 5 defense?

In yards but they were 6th in PPG and 8th in turnovers.....They won 10 games despite a bottom 5 offense....I am not sold at 100% for the defense against some matchup but this is very hard to have a winning record with a bottom 5 offense,so they deserve big time credit for that

Season hasn’t started yet. [emoji23]. There’s a ton of different talent on this team compared to last year. Why would anyone try to compare last season to this season? It’s two totally different teams. That’s just stupid.
On paper, other than Mahomes, where are the Chiefs that much better than the Steelers to make an “elite” difference?
But maybe you’re right…maybe if they had Kenny Pickett, that would make up for the deficiencies you are claiming or they just keep getting worse and worse while eating a shot sandwich. [emoji23]

I know this wasn't asked of me but I think it bears discussion. What about our defensive front 7 is not elite? Our secondary with the additions of Elliott snd Jackson should be noticeably better this season, especially once Sutton gets back.
Arthur Smith is night and day better than Matt Canada. Give this offense a chance before burying them.

6th in points allowed. Last time I checked, points is what wins and loses games. But leave it to you to always accentuate the negative. Do us a favor and please don't jump on the bandwagon if they start off with a couple of wins. Spare us your heroes threads.

Chiefs and 49ers were probably better. That’s all that matters…those are elite teams!!

Kenny Pickett can breathe a sigh of relief after latest Eagles cut
Kenny Pickett should feel a huge weight lifted off his shoulders as the Eagles cut down their roster.

Yeah they cut the 4th string QB.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
The Eagles are one of those teams that typically carries 2 QBs on the 53-man roster. We will see after final cuts are made but so far they are still carrying 3. If they do cut McKee we should grab him as our 3rd. Just a thought.

He was at the college stadium where he was a great player.
Fans are idiots. They are far more immature and far more petty than they accuse Kenny Pickett of being.
That's a very disappointing reaction.

why would we do that with Allen on the roster ?
a guy who has starter experience (19) and wont embarrass you giving you a chance to win 62% completion percentage (and he knows the current system )

Yes, unfortunately sports sometimes brings out the worst in people and some forget that the people they insult are human beings like we are. Sure, their athleticism has afforded them some comforts that everyday people do not have, but there is no need to seek to demean them in a situation like that.
What KP did at Pitt is still honorable.
Those are just weak egos.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
According to some, its overblown. There were a couple who jeered Kenny at the game. He was generally cheered by most.
Ran the dude out of town, but we very clearly miss him.

It's sad but not surprising. Most of the people who bash Pickett ARE immature and stupid.

Only an ignorant fool like you wouldn't understand that when a player is in the stadium of his college team, he is there as a fan and a representative of the Pitt football program. He is part of the Pitt program, and the people there are also there to support the Pitt Panthers........not the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Once again, you come out of the woodwork to try to insult me but just reveal the assclown you have become.
Congrats.
Maybe you should try to be a man again and take me off ignore. You...the man pretending to "know" football! :rofl2:
