Kenny failing is not a win for the Steelers. A true win for the Steelers was Kenny busting out here and having a contingency plan to replace him. They got neither and are left without a Quarterback. Kenny struggling in Philly doesn't make the Steelers situation any better. It means that the current Steelers brass is not that good at evaluating or managing quarterbacks.
That’s just your (negative) opinion that they don’t have a quarterback to replace him.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I would wait a bit before saying that the steelers have no QB this year...I have hope that at least one of the two will be good...One thing is for sure, I am certain Wilson and Fields will be way more productive than our QBs from last year. There was 0 hope with Pickett at this point

I don’t know…two games, zero points from the starters and the play at the position has been pretty bad…almost Kenny Pickett bad…

This team has had a long and storied history of stepping on their dicks as far as the QB position is concerned. Bradshaw and Roethlisberger were the exceptions.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
2 out of 4 first round Qb’s panned out for the franchise in the modern era (1969 on). Thats not too bad. But i dont think the steelers can survive a 20 year drought till the next franchise Qb comes along again. Its a Qb driven league now more than ever. Heads would roll, HC’s, GM’s maybe even a change of ownership. They need that next franchise guy pretty soon.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I don't think KP was the answer, but after watching the two we have now makes me very nervous.

Some teams (e.g., Bears) have zero exceptions. Our exceptions count for 6 Super Bowls.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
It’s already clear that the Steelers fleeced the Eagles in trade for Kenny Pickett

Do you mean that somehow getting nothing out of Johnny Unitas and Len Dawson, and getting rid of them, and passing on Dan Marino when he fell into their laps is some kind of indicator? :chuckle:

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Outside of Green Bay,almost every team had problems finding franchise QBs through the draft
Teams like Denver (even Elway wasn't with their own draft pick) Chicago and many others are much worse than the steelers historically at finding a franchise QB,despite many first round pick at this position
Very few teams have drafted or developed 2 future hof at this position, but the steelers are going to be one of those teams by the end of this decade

The Chicago Bears have won 8 NFL championships in their history. Just a little reminder of how things can and do go sideways even to great organizations with the wrong leadership and some bad decisions.

if you want to go back that far dont forget trading away first rounder Morrall for an over the hill Bobby Layne. The steelers used to make dumb moves like that before Dan Rooney got involved. The Wilson trade reminds of that time period

We don't have enough information to make a determination on the Wilson trade. We will see how that worked out over the course of this season.

It says to me that we need to wait for the regular season before we go making judgements about who is the better QB.

I know, i hope it works in our favor, but history shows these kinds of moves usually dont work out for the team getting the vet. Just one good year from Wilson and a deep playoff run and i’d call it a success.

except there was no trade for Wilson , we sent no players to Denver , we sent no draft capital to Denver , we simply signed him to a vet minimum contract and that was it ... 1.2 million dollars or there about ... so not even close to anything else you have suggested

details may be different but end result is the same. We gave up on a young first rounder for an old vet. Although im doubting KP has a career like Morrall.

This was a Buddy Parker specialty. He loved to trade draft choices for vets. One year he traded away all of our first seven draft choices except for Round 2.

well, I’m thinking Tomlin’s got a little Buddy Parker in him

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Parker historically traded most of his draft picks away.
Here is a sample of Parker's record of trading draft picks during his tenure with the Steelers: in 1958, he traded away the team's picks in the first round, the fourth round, the fifth round, the seventh round, the eighth round, and the ninth round. In 1959, Parker traded away the Steelers' picks in Rounds 1-through-7; in 1960, he trade away the picks in Rounds 2-through-6; in 1961, he traded away the No. 1 pick, and also the picks in Rounds 3-through-6; in 1962, he traded away the picks in Rounds 2-through-6; and in 1963, he traded away the picks in Rounds 1-through-7. And even though Parker was fired in 1964, he already had traded the Steelers first-round pick in the 1965 NFL Draft.

And just recently, the rams did this for several years (they had no first round pick from 2017 to 2023) and they were very good
If it works and you trade it for right players, great but if it doesn't work, you need a new GM and fast!

If I recall correctly, the saying was Washington was where old football players go to die.

The same is true if you keep your draft picks and miss on them.

Yep. I saw this movie the first time sixty years ago. It didn't go well.
Artie was probably too young at the time to really understand. But Dan was there and hated it. If he were still around, it probably wouldn't be happening again.
