Corporations run this country, it's been that way since at least the 80's . The government we have now is a symptom, not a cause, we need to find a way to stop lobbyists in Washington. The 2 main parties right now are both bought off and I don't have faith in either.

Speaking of corporations, if anyone has a remote work job, find some skills that won't make you easily replaceable, since this remote work environment is just showing that anyone can take your job. IT security is a good field since I don't see us outsourcing security to india or china lol

I'd say that's largely true, except that recent times have also seen the emergence of something different on top of that. A political elite class who are out for themselves, and who, as a group, have succeeded in establishing more or less permanent control over the levers of power - to the point where they themselves have equal or more control than the corporations and other influence brokers who have traditionally bought off the government in the past.

So instead of being bought and paid for by those interests, the elite political class can now force them to pony up and get on board. Corporations, lower-ranking politicians, party influencers, all of them. Instead of the usual fat-cat politicians that are beholden to outside interests, you have a political machine with interests beholden to them. (The fat cat politicians and corporate power mongers still exist too, they're just beholden to the machine now.)

Basically, it's like Tammany Hall or the Chicago Machine is being taken nationwide, and that's not good. The previous system where everything was cynical and low-energy and nothing useful got done ... that was dumb, but at least easy to tolerate or ignore, and the worst consequence was usually that some money got wasted. A system where a political elite class grabs control, and makes the government aggressive and dangerous in order to further their own interests and status - that is much worse, and I am afraid that's the direction in which it's heading.
