If I were a GM my goal would be to get all future starters. The GM you spoke of seems to be one who strives for mediocrity so he can sleep at night.

Now I would never say that Mendenhall was dogshit, when in fact he was pretty decent, but I'd personally never seen the Steelers draft a RB in the first round my entire life, and I've always hated the idea on anyone at all doing it, let alone my team. For me, it wasn't about who we drafted first, because I knew fuck all about Rashard, but it was all about the position we drafted first, and I thought to myself: "This guy better be one hell of a damn running back." So yes, he wasn't bad, but being a supreme waste of that year's first round pick is undeniable, and I never want to see us draft a RB in round 1 ever again. I'm going to chalk this one up to Tomlin's initial, and still persistent, naivety.
Fair point, but perhaps a better draft would've netted us another championship in 2010, or any year since?
Well, yeah... even better: seven HOFers in every draft would be great.
Sarcasm aside, if one aggregates the average off all teams' drafts, the aforementioned (starter, backup, special teamed) is about what most teams end up with. Obviously, some years, teams draft better (Faneca, Ward) and some year's teams draft worse (2008).
The teams that fair well not only draft well, they do so in multiple drafts:
2011: Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas
2012: Richard Sherman, KJ Wright, Malcolm Smith
2013: Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner
When you cluster low-cost players (before they get huge contracts), you're able to compile a roster loaded with Pro Bowl talent, at rookie prices.
Or courage(perhaps the same thing). I wish I could remember the game when a defender barely touched Mendenhall from behind in the open field. As soon as the light brush happened Mendenhall immediately went to the ground.
I think you and I were some of the few that did not like that pick

And Al Bundy. 4 TDs in one game.
Remember when everyone said Leveon Bell over fat Lacy or the destroyer of worlds middle linebacker Arthur Brown was dumb?
remember when people didn't like the Heyward pick? Or drafting so many offensive linemen in the first and second round?
my point? Sure there have been many dumb or bad picks but there have been just as many excellent picks or more.

Notice how when Carrol wasn't able to draft guys he recruited in the middle rounds that Seattle's ridiculous success rate in he draft came back to earth?
Yep.
His 2013, 2014, & 2015 drafts were subpar... although, his 2016 draft could be pretty good.
Regardless, the point is the same: no one hits home runs every single draft. The Seahawks were great in 2010, 11, & 12... so, they have excelled. Their weak 2013, 14, & 15 drafts will bring them back to the pack.
NOTE: I was off by one year in my previous post. It should have been 2010, 11, & 12.
Worley might have been really good if he didn't like cocaine better than football.

I retract this statement after perusing the list of draftees we could've taken instead of the ones we did, and now I see what a total crap shoot that draft class was, even though any of the best available OLmen or DEs would've been a better choice I think. The stand-outs after pick #23 were all pretty dubious that year.
I hated that Mendenhall pick...Inhated that Bruce Davis pick but I loved the Limas Sweed pick...lol.
More of the same today...I think it may be time...
Once again, on the road against a sub .500 team and they look totally unprepared. This is inexcusable
Mike Tomlin has really outdone himself with this stinker
Typical Tomlin Steelers.
Shellacked again on the road...lol.
Mediocre Mike needs to go. What an absolute shit show, especially coming off a bye. Can't wait to hear people on here defend him again.
Cool, a TD. Let's get some garbage time stats to make the game seem close
A loss is one thing but a loss in this fashion is completely different. Undisciplined, unprepared and poor play selection
It's time to fire him, and Haley, and Butler
This team's next Super Bowl win will occur after Tomlin is no longer head coach

I don't necessarily agree with the dude, but substandard efforts like today are hard to defend.
How can you disagree with what he said? People can be mad about his comments but it's facts and I'll add this without Ben I honestly don't think Mike Tomlin is still the Head coach for this team. When the Steelers lost their veteran players they lost what this football team has been all about for 30 + seasons and Mike Tomlin has not been able to keep this team prepared, motivated or dominant. It's not opinion it's fact.
This guy did make some good points about Mike.
