Re: 2020 Draft Prospects Thread
I don't believe the Steelers will select a QB in this draft but you know, never say never. Putting the 3 I find the most intriguing prospects on here. Jordan Love, Jacob Eason, and Jalen Hurts. Obviously we won't even get a sniff of Burrow, I just can't trust Tua's injury history at his size, and Fromm is a statue in the pocket and we already have one of those.

Re: 2020 Draft Prospects Thread
Not sure if highlights or game film would be of much interest on the "big uglies". Anyway here is a list of C/G prospects I would consider at pick #49. Some of these names may be a lower value on many big boards but considering the Steelers don't pick again until #102, these names will hold a higher value in the Steelers warroom, IMO and could very well be in play at #49.
In no particular order but these guys are considered both C/G prospects and therefore IOL flexibility.
1. Lloyd Cushenberry LSU
2. Cesar Ruiz Michigan
3. Jonah Jackson OSU
4. Tyler Biadasz Wisconsin
5. Matt Hennessy Temple
I would have zero issue with any of these guys being the pick at #49 and I believe all could step in immediately if the need arose.

I posted my top 4 Edge defenders that I think have a chance to drop. Okwara 2nd? Anae 3rd? Highsmith 4th? Garvin 5th? From what I see on their tape are guys that can win one on one against OTs, have primary rush moves and secondary counter moves at least, and show some ability to play in space. Still have to question can they hold an edge against the run. I still don't think any of these guys are round 1 talent but quality depth and special teams contributors day 1, and high ceiling prospects. There are some tweener guys, DE/OLB, that I don't think are a fit this draft. I think if the steelers go DL it will be interior DL and just not enough picks to get every position. For instance, I could see a Gallimore pick at 2 if he fell and then not taking OLB depth at all. OR getting an early/mid round OLB and looking for a Benito Jones type later. Also on the back end of the defense, I see a Safety being selected but one that can also play nickel LB role. Same on the offensive side of the ball. Need OC/OG help so this pick should be a position flexible guy. I see this being a very nuanced and interesting draft.

So a guy like Trautman is posting better short area quickness times as a 250 lb TE than most of the 190-200 lb wide receivers that run 4.4 in the 40? That is what shows up on film as what kind of a route runner he can be getting open underneath. As you say, the 4.80 isn't bad for a TE and also, he looked very fluid in receiving drills in pads a the Senior bowl, which you cant tell as much at the Underwear Olympics that is the Combine.
I think the process of Combine, Senior Bowl, Video are all pointing to the evidence that Adam Trautman is : A big TE ,that is a good athlete that runs good routes and gets in and out of breaks well, while also being a decent blocker. The only question is his level of experience at the position and playing against top competition.
Very good points. 4.27 shuttle is good for a DB, meaning he can explode side to side quickly and the cone time 6.78 shows change of direction and cutting ability when running. I believe Health Miller ran a 4.8
If we don't pick a TE in round two, I'd be happy taking Trautman in round three. He's be worth that pick. Based on what I saw he can block and catch.

Just google up "Adam Trautman Senior Bowl practice" and add blocking, route running, etc and you can find all you need.
I watched the coverage that week and there were cases where the commentators, evaluators, etc said "Trautman runs routes better than some of the receivers here". "nice down block by Trautman on the D tackle", "Trautman is making a case as being the best TE here this week".
I watched the San Diego game that you posted and pm'd Shoes a couple months ago to keep an eye out for Trautman in the process. He flashes the skills on tape, but the question was how would he do against top D1 talent and he showed the week in Mobile that he can win against them. I personally like him and Harrison Bryant the best out of FAU as potential fits for the Steelers.

This is a game highlights film of Memphis vs Navy from 2018 I think. Anthony Miller and Darrell Henderson are the feature offensive players. Defensively there are 3 players to watch out for. 2 in this year's draft with DE-Bryce Huff, & ILB-Austin Hall, and CB-TJ Carter who will be available in 2021 draft.

Re: 2020 Draft Prospects Thread
I really like Mooney as a college WR. As a Memphis alum and lifelong fan I get to see some Tulane every year so I am familiar. Mooney is just so small. He is fast but is he NFL fast is the question. He's a pure slot WR maybe in the mold of a Keenan Allen? Just being that small I wonder can he hold up. I would love to see him brought in as a UDFA.

Excellent point
If one can get AB in R6, why draft him in R3... let alone R1.

Or just look at 2010...AB was pick 195 overall. Emmanuel Sanders was 82 overall. Even if another team had drafted Sanders before the steelers 3rd round pick we still get AB in the 6th.

Yeah,if the GM of the Ravens is right,we need to wait at least until the fourth round for a WR.

I think this is crazy. 1st the 4 players are not players I would want at 49. Then the overwhelming top choice is a RB with fumble issues in college. Great production yes, GREAT PRODUCTION. 18 fumbles in 3 seasons losing 15 of them. That is not what the Steelers want or need.
K.J. Hamler is dwarfed by Diontae Johnson.
Jalen Reagor is more of a slot/"X" WR. My choice at WR would be more of the "Z" variety. I love his speed and skillset though from where he does fit.
Cam Akers is Jonathan Taylor behind a terrible OL. His 10 fumbles/losing 7 in his 3 years makes him a no-no to me as well.
So who would I draft of these 4? Reagor is easily the choice here.

Center Matt Hennessy drawing interest around the leagueThe Jets, who own the Giants’ selection in the third round, also have a lot of interest in Hennessy. I am told if they select Hennessey, it would be to play center. Newly signed free agent Connor McGovern would then slide over to guard, the position many thought he played his best football at while in Denver.
The Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers all have a significant interest in Hennessy. Of that group, Pittsburgh projects him to guard.

Your pick among his players?

Winfield just feels like a Steeler. He checks so many boxes. The Steelers have been looking for a 3rd safety to use in sub package for a few years now, and Winfield is the most versatile safety in the class. Can play as a center fielder or cover receivers in the slot. Minkah and Winfield can go back and forth with those roles. His father also had a long successful NFL career, and we all know the Steelers like bloodlines. Tomlin also coached Winfield Sr during his time with the Vikings.
Mims is a beast. If he gets out of round one he'll go early round 2 Imo.
Ruiz, like Mims would be incredible to have if he fell.
I'm much lower on Claypool. Late 3rd/early 4th is his best value. Good vertical and red zone threat, but not much of a route runner or catch and run receiver. Also, I don't see 4.4 speed on game film. I for one can see him falling to the Steelers comp pick where they find a Martavis Bryant replacement, I'll probably be wrong though.
So my answer is Winfield Jr.

Re: 2020 Draft Prospects Thread
Getting into draft week now. All the talk and speculation is just about over and the picks are actually(virtually) about to happen. Here are some players I definitely want to see with the Steelers. Unfortunately some of them cross positions so no way we can draft both or all.
1. Winfield Jr DB Minnesota. This is the perfect Safety for the Steelers needs and how they love athleticism and position flexibility.
2. Tanner Muse SS/ILB Clemson. Another Perfect Steeler type player that can be used from multiple positions on the defense. At 6'2" and 227lbs he has the coverage ability to play a Safety role, and can be played inside or outside as a LB.
3. Isaiah Simmons ILB/Safety Clemson. Probably my favorite player in this draft. A one man wrecking machine on the defense. Can play in the secondary, stuff the run, or effectively blitz and harass QBs from anywhere. The most TP43 player I have seen since the real TP43.
4. Xavier McKinney Safety Bama. The best pure Safety in this draft.
I think one of these players will be a Steeler's draft pick by the start of the 4th round. Most likely Tanner Muse at 102 overall. But should the impossible happen I would love to see one of the other 3 guys I mentioned fall to pick 49 overall.
5. Zack Baun LB Wisconsin. Line him up anywhere along the defensive front and watch him wreak havoc. Best all around LB in this draft , IMO.
6. Chase Young OLB OSU. Best pass rusher in this draft. Should be the #1 overall pick, IMO.
Neither is expected to fall out of the top 10. But never tell me the odds!
There are a lot of guys on the offensive side of the ball I would like to see as a Steeler but so many it's tough to nail them down without making a 50 player list. I can probably find an OL I would love in each round. Same with WRs. Who are some names you guys think make the best Steelers from this draft?
-
Re: 2020 Draft Prospects Thread
Draft week MOCK-no simulator:
49: Isaiah Wilson RT Georgia. 6'7"-340lbs. The OL gets solidified with Feiler moving to LG. Wilson and Banner become the RT rotation. Derwin Gray becomes the backup at LT with Chuks being the swing OT backup.
102: Tanner Muse SS/ILB Clemson. 6'2"-227lbs. Muse is a moving chess piece in an already dominant defense. Just deploy and unleash.
124: Quintez Cephus WR Wisconsin. 6'1"-200lbs. This is the possession WR the Steelers were missing last season. Can play outside or from the slot. A move piece defenses will have to gameplan for. Cephus is strong and very hard to bring down once he has the ball.
135: John Simpson OG Clemson. 6'5"-330lbs. Once again the Steelers visit Clemson with an entourage. Being the only pro day on the map another Clemson Tiger is selected here. Simpson is a brute OG and made for opening running lanes for guys like Conner and Snell. This pick further solidifies the OL for the next decade.
198: Bravvion Roy NT Baylor. 6'1"-330lbs. Bowling ball of a defensive tackle that has the ability to hold his ground and play a 2-gap role, or shoot the gap and rush the passer. Likely backup to Big Dan to start but could move into the starter role by the end of the season.
232: Patrick Taylor RB Memphis. 6'3"-227lbs. Fits the Steelers size and speed qualifications at RB. Have to go back to Taylor's 2018 film to see his power and abilities with the ball due to a 2019 injury. Taylor can be the power back, with just enough shiftiness to add some finesse in the open field, plus he brings the ability to be a receiver out of the backfield.

Akers to the Steelers has been gaining momentum lately. IMO, Akers is another one the Steelers would need to take at 49 or not at all. His 10 fumbles(5 in one season) in 36 games on only 586 total carries is a red flag. Also not really known as a pass catcher. However, I do like Akers' size and speed and he does look the part of a Steelers' guy. Interesting note, Akers was a highschool dual threat QB so he could replace Samuels as a wildcat option. I think he fits the Steelers' offense better than other RBs that have been suggested.

Gibson is a difficult eval. He only had 34 career carries in college, so his resume of running between the tackles like he would have to in the NFL is rather limited. He looks the part as an athlete but very challenging to tell if he can be an NFL RB or if he is a slot receiver or 3rd down RB.
