Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Oh well, Pickett is from Tom's River, NJ a probably grew up an Eagles fan. Even if he ends up a career backup he can do it in his own backyard. Good luck to him. I expect us to be drafting quite high this time next year.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
A poor QB is let go. That's a great thing.
Hopefully they don't waste an early pick on a QB. Pick up a competent veteran QB.
-
Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I'm sure the Eagles are bringing Kenny in to compete with Hurts for the QB1 job! How funny is that? What did demanding a trade get Pickett? If Russell is as bad as half of you say on here, Pickett would be starting again in no time. Now he's in a dead end path to a career backup.

Mason was never really given a chance. He was given about 10 games and then tossed aside. In those few games he showed he was far better than Pickett. Pickett was given a starting position for 1+ years based on draft pick status rather than merit.
Would you say Pickett was limited and needed specific game plans and playcalls?

Why are all these offseason and free agency/trades threads turning into "no excuses for Tomlin now" threads? Khan and the Steelers are trying to improve the team to the best of their ability. I don't think the team is making this a do or die situation for Tomlin at all going into next season, and I still expect an extension is forthcoming for Tomlin.

I would expect Russell would get the initial first team reps, as his pedigree is so very far ahead of Kenny at this point.
Kenny asking for a trade immediately after the Russ signing makes me glad Khan got rid of him, and put him somewhere where he will not be competing for the starting job. Yeah he was in a bad offense with Canada, but he appears to be acting way too entitled for the meager stats and play he has shown so far in the NFL.

Cleaned out the garbage and putting in an empty bag...let's see what they fill it up with...
Wilson and three QBs...incoming! (Tannehill?)
what games have you been watching? Mason never really got a chance, and neither did KP. Yeah let’s see what the Steelers do now. So far they have an over the hill Wilson they hope they can squeeze a year or two out of. Better let him run the show cause he didn’t want to work with Sean Payton.

Mason had 5 seasons of OTAs, Trainjng Camps, Game Situations to show something…and he didn’t really show much from Day One until Last Day. Maybe because of Canada as well. But he had plenty of time. Even without Canada, he wasn’t great. Pickett got a bad situation…but Mason had plenty of time to show he was worth something…

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I sure did not see any player on the Steelers, and that includes both offense and defense, that lobbied or expressed excitement for Kenny as the QB at any point during last season or this offseason up until now. Maybe I just missed it?
Cam Heyward, the leader on this team, expressed his excitement about Wilson, and evidently both he and TJ reached out to Wilson after news broke that Denver was going to release him.
This tells me that the players themselves did not really rally behind Kenny or believe him as a QB and leader.

I don’t think so, he backed up Ben until he retired, came in when Ben was hurt and played ok until he got concussed. Never really got a chance after that, being buried on the bench behind a rook and a first round bust, until late this year and he ends up guiding us to the playoffs.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I never thought I'd say this . . . but now I know what a Brown's fan feels like.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
If Kenny did have this hissy fit with Seattle game last year and with the signing of Wilson then i say good riddance. He hasn’t done enough to think he is entitled to be a starter.

The difference is the Steelers still made the playoffs with a shit OC and horrible QB room. I rooted for KP but now he was basically a one night stand. Already forgotten. Although Mason played well in 4 games only 2 percent of people think he is a starter in this league. The Browns would’ve paid Wilson 30 mill, opposed to the 1 mill Steelers paying. We’ll probably sign Dobbs as backup up and roll the dice again in the draft next couple of years. I think Russell brings more to table than Ben did at 36. I’m pretty happy with the last week.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
On ESPN they interviewed a female reporter that covers the Steelers. I can't remember her name. She said that Pickett was still being told that he would be competing for the starting position this season. Then he saw the hype video that Wilson posted to social media of great things coming to Pittsburgh which made it clear he was here to be the starter.
Pickett met with Tomlin the next morning and Tomlin told him Wilson was going to be the starter.
That's how the reporter framed it.
I know coaches lie and shit happens, but Pickett surely got screwed over big time since he was drafted.
The Steelers should be ashamed of the way they have handled a first-round quarterback in Kenny Pickett. It is a masterclass on what not to do with a young quarterback at the NFL level.
There is nothing to celebrate here. Mike Tomlin's handling of this has been a disaster. There is no other way to describe it. The way the organization in general has handled everything Pickett is an embarrassment. If the same people are in charge of quarterback decisions going forward, the disasters will most likely continue to happen.
This is and should be a black eye for the Steelers. This is stuff that the worst organizations in football do. It's not supposed to happen with the Steelers...yet it did.
Hopefully Khan has been put in charge of things and they will acquire a talented young QB to develop with a much better plan and with better people in place to help with that development.

that is a ridiculous take , why would we draft higher next year using a better QB than the 3 headed monster we had last year and with a legit NFL offense about to be installed

Thanks. I had just gotten home from work and turned on the TV in time for that to be coming on.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I think Russ does give us some flexibility at the draft. We can go first round if Drake Maye falls. Or get a Jordan Travis in round 5 to compete as he had s pretty high floor. Or shoot for the stars in Joe Milton. Or I really like Kedon Slovis as an UDFA. He reminds me of Pickett to be honest just with a higher ceiling. Good athlete, quick release, stands in the pocket. Accuracy can be up and down.

Assume all that to be true.
Other than draft position, what has ever happened to justify KP pouting about not starting?
If he was a 4th round pick and acted the same way; who would put up with it?
Sorry. I was on KPs side. I wanted to see him get a chance with a fresh offense. I wrote off the end of last year as baseless nonsense.
Now? It seems like KP's kinda entitled with no justification. Seems not dissimilar to the Zach Wilson situation with the Jets.
I'm still NOT a fan of the Wilson signing.
But, I'm starting to think KP's a whiny nothing. That would go a long way towards explaining why almost all his teammates turned on him last season.

This — regarding Kenny’s maturity.

And if he was any good during that time span, he would’ve inherited the job. He wasn’t good. Just because he didn’t get actual game time (which he did), doesn’t mean he didn’t have a fair chance to show what he had as a talent…which was nothing much.

It does need acknowledged that James Harrison, Meovin Ingram, and KP are all telling a similar tale.
Just trying to be fair.

I’m sure that Canada was told he’d be evaluated at the end of the season too. Circumstances change.

But he showed he was good. Not Ben good but who comes out of the gate like Ben?And Canada wanted a ‘mobile’ Qb. Hence it seems obvious why they went after Mitch and promoted him. I think those last four games showed MR is certainly capable. You think he stinks and I think he was a good Qb, certainly good as a backup, as a starter maybe? He still could develope into one.
at this point, both KP and MR are gone. I’m more concerned with the Steelers. I don’t know what was said between KP and Tomlin but what stands out to me most is that the players were behind MR, and then got behind Wilson. So I’m with Wilson also hope he balls out.
