We do keep coming back to the exception that proves the rule in order to remain optimistic on the QB projections.
Trubisky needs a veteran turnaround so dramatic that the comp most people come up with (Warner) is so astounding that they made movies about it.
Pickett needs to replicate the rise of Burrow. A player that almost universally discussed as an unprecedented developmental path.
It makes it hard to clearly see these really rare and narrow comparative success stories being repeated.

it would probably mean Nagy wasn't at fault and Pickett is not ready.... or it could mean Rudy has worked hard and improved a ton.

Whatever else it meant, it would also mean -- "Welcome to the basement!"

Re: Thread for the QB competition!
Only 3 days but it would be a huge shocker at this point if Pickett is the starter in week 1 unless that Mitch and Mason are out because of injuries

It seems so far like Mason is playing his ass off. Nothing like threatening someone's job to make them play hard lol

Training camp is wonderful. Unfortunately, we’ve seen what he has to offer in games.

Players improve? Nah. Everyone knows that people that play in the NFL are set in stone and can never get better or decline in any circumstance. It took Terry Bradshaw five seasons to finally have a year where his touchdowns outnumbered his interceptions.

Players can improve but when the last time,a players was garbage in the first 3-4 years and become great after that?

James Harrison is one.

Harrison did not had the chance to play much before 2007 too

It is typical that early on in TC the vets look much better than the rookies and new guys to the system. Happens every year. I wouldn't give up on a struggling KP any more than put a ton of hope in MR/MT just yet. I'm not a believer in Rudolph but I will give him the opportunity to prove himself one way or the other. For me it's about what makes the team better always.
Apparently, Oladokun has had zero reps at TC so far. Just to show how early into the process this is at this point. Fun to talk about and speculate, but keep it fluid. At least for now.

Also, I didn't read the article but I read a headline that stated TJ Watt is pretty much ruining the practices for the offense. As expected I guess. The beast has come to feast.

Steve Young didn't look like he was going to be anything and got traded to SFO after 2 disappointing seasons with the Bucs. Now a hall of famer

In addition to Young: Tommy Maddox, Rich Gannon, Alex Smith, Kerry Collins, Jeff Hostetler…

Jim Plunkett was another QB that struggled early in his career, then became a HOF caliber player later into his career.

Thread for the QB competition!
Jimmy G would be most recent then. Even Matt Schaub. He was a nobody, then an injury and then a decent QB for a couple/few years. Point is that it has happened quite a few times.

Jimmy G was the backup of Tom Brady for almost 4 years.Schaub was the backup of Michael Vick during 3 years
I'm talking about QBs who had a real chance to play one season or more and they were below average, so much they were benched by their coach for a few games or longer and then they became good for at least a good period of time in their next opportunity(I don't count players like Nick Foles or Case Keenum, that it was only for one season or a playoff run)
Alex Smith is the most recent example

Schaub had two seasons where he was injured off and on with Houston and then went on a nice tear where he was a 4000 yards passer consistently. He’s exactly what you are talking about.
Jimmy ag had some starts but if he doesn’t fit your criteria, sure knock him off the list. There’s still a lot of names on there.
-
Re: Thread for the QB competition!
Never mind!
I'm just going to hope that our starting QB is going to be at least decent this year!

Re: Thread for the QB competition!
Better hype Rudolph a little more and a lot faster then get the Seahawks on the phone before they get Jimmy G…lol
-
Re: Thread for the QB competition!
How is Oladokun doing in camp so far? Is he even there?

Agree and I bet the Seahawks “swoop in” and sign him…
They can’t realistically be going with Geno Smith as their 2022 QB.

Unless they want to tank for a draft pick like crazy!

This is also true that the O-line is not good who don't help the QBs(to be fair this is against maybe the best pass rush in the NFL but they will have no chance if our o-line is bad in real game)
