We're not spending nearly enough on our QBs.

Giants still bidding against themselves in the Jones Sweepstakes. Lol.

Re: Offseason thread(News,Rumors,etc)
Some rumors that Stafford could be on the move but I don't know if this is credible or not(this is by Michael Lombardi)....The fire sale for the rams could be a historic one....

New contract for Daniel Jones with the giants....And franchise tag for Barkley...

Not a terrible deal for Jones considering…

It just goes to show you how important the quarterback position has become. Barkley had to literally carry this team on his back whenever healthy enough to do so. His reward for this is being forced to play for roughly 25% of what his quarterback teammate is going to make for just one year with no further guarantees.
If ever there was an example of how the running back position has been devalued, and how desperate teams are for quarterbacks and what they are willing to pay.....this is it.

Re: Offseason thread(News,Rumors,etc)
82 millions guaranteed at signing for Jones

Re: Offseason thread(News,Rumors,etc)
JuJu is likely to stay with KC.....

I don’t know if it’s desperation. Daboll is a pretty good judge of QB…Jones is running the same thing Allen is and doing it successfully. If Daboll thinks the guy has talent, that carries a lot of weight. Daboll may know something that the normal people don’t when it comes to QB play and Jones.

The point of my post was how little Saquan Barkley is going to make when the entire offense has run through him....compared to his quarterback that will make more than four times what he will make per season with a much longer contract.
My point about desperation was speaking to the NFL in general for having to spend outrageous amounts of money for quarterbacks that have not proven they deserve that type of money. Saquan Barkley is clearly one of the best running backs in the NFL. Daniel Jones is not on the same level as a QB as Barkley is as a RB, but Jones is getting all the money.

Your point is well made. RBs almost never get a 2nd contract with their original team. And when they do it's some incentive laden thing where they pretty much have to win SB MVP and play some defensive snaps to make top money. But...I think it is justified to some extent. Barkley has already missed 21 games in 5 seasons. At the same time, Jones has missed 12 games in 4 seasons. QBs > RBs

Good points.
Seems like despite their importance to the on field success of their teams RBs and safeties get hosed on contracts.

I got ya. The NFL has been heading in that direction for a very long time now.

And as it continues, just imagine the discussions here in ten years: " Ok, I understand we need a backup for Kenny, but we can find a cheaper alternative to Bubby Brister III at 20 million dollars. We could get Kordell JR. JR. for no more than 15 a year - a reasonable price for a back-up.

I agree, but you conveniently left off Emmitt Smith 3 and Franco Harris 4.

He is a suspect passer who bails himself out by running and has only played well when supported by great play calling. And that's worth $82 million guaranteed. But a better than suspect passer who also runs and did so well enough to be the MVP of the league and has never had a decent play caller isn't worth 3 times that guarantee?
I just do not understand how teams are talking themselves into Jones and out of Jackson unless it is coming explicitly from the owners box.

Daboll. It’s all about what he thinks. If he thinks he’s worth it, then he sees something in him, just like he did Allen, and that carries the weight.

I guess and Daboll and Kafka (I think) believe that Jones can move from the 20th best QB to the 12-15 range....then paying him that kind of coin makes some sense.
I feel like every critical argument that people level against Jackson could be leveled times 3 or 4 at Jones. And that dude just got over $80 million guaranteed and over $100 million?
-
Re: Offseason thread(News,Rumors,etc)
I think the coaches/GMs around these players have told all of us what they’re worth. We don’t have to agree, and typically do not, but there it is.

Not that Jones will be the next Josh Allen but there was a point where he didn’t deserve that kind of money either. They could’ve just overpaid or they could’ve just gotten a steal…only time will tell.

Re: Offseason thread(News,Rumors,etc)
This is possible that Daniel Jones is not a good QB but he was in a awful situation in the first 3 years and last year,he had a better head coach and Barkley was healthy but their receiver core were bad...I think you can win with him and he can have some good moment.Maybe he could be good like Dak Prescott in his good years...we will see but I could be very wrong too!

Re: Offseason thread(News,Rumors,etc)
The thing is, if you have a #12-15 QB you can move on and run the risk of joining 50% of the league with a #16-32 QB, or try to build around the strengths of your #12-15 QB and be a playoff team. Seems smart to do the latter unless you’re presented with a clear path to a franchise QB.

But that offense was pretty much just Jones and Barkley. If they were to add some receivers and a receiving TE, they may be something to talk about…

I’m sure that’s their goal. That Lions receiver they signed was a total bust.
