I know that that has become the joke, but last season, aside from O-linemen, he played the most snaps of ANY player on our roster. (This season, he was simply replaced by Ebron.)

I think this season, they misused him and didn’t take advantage of using he and Ebron to try to create mismatches with formations and personnel.

The thing is, who you gonna take off of the field?
You have 5 skill players, 4 if you have a RB. Ebron brings it down to 3... with a bevy of WRs who are all have better YAC than McDonald.

I’ll take a WR off the field in hopes to create a mismatch somewhere. Seems like they had no problem not using Claypool at times. Maybe they did try and it didn’t work?

My biggest gripe with Fitchner (and there are MANY gripes), is that he didn’t play Claypool more.
Scheme-wise: adding another receiver (Vance) who really only goes out about 5 yards wasn’t going to help this offense. We needed to push the ball downfield AND run north-south AND stop running those stupid screens AND stop running the “Watt plunge” two times in a row AND... AND... AND...
Did I mention that I’m ecstatic that Randy Fitchner is gone???
Re: Steelers TE Vance McDonald Announces Retirement
Happy retirement. Watched few interviews of Vance, he seems like a genuine and down to earth kind of guy. It's unfortunate that this thread derailed quickly into discussion about Fichtner, Ebron and other people that really don't have anything to do what kind of player and person Vance was and is. True professional, gritty, give it all kind of player. Wish we have more of those. Underappreciated.
