Re: Avery Williamson is a Steeler
Ask the new kid if he ever heard of Jack Lambert?

We had good luck with former Jets linebackers (aka James Farrior).
who knows. Maybe Williamson may be the anchor of the inside position for next 6 years

This is a no lose situation for the Steelers.
Man, they are going to have a crazy amount of picks in 2022. They might have the max of 4 compensatory picks! Plus, those are tradeable now. Colbert is going to go nuts. But that is another thread...
Anyways, looks like a solid move. Either AW is excellent depth at a thin position or he is able to assert himself and push a current starter to the bench. All at the cost of moving back 2 rounds in a draft where you reasonably expect to have a few extra picks? No downside.

Also, anyone heard what the associated roster move is?
No associated roster move is required until Williamson passes the covid protocol. Then they will need to make a corresponding move.

I don't think he will play in Dallas.

Well. This just keeps getting better and better. Once I realized they are not on the hook for any cap $$$ in 2021 (which I totally thought they were because I don't read so good...maybe I should look into that Zoolander school?), this just doesn't seem to have a drawback.
Although I did hear that the Steelers are thinking about asking AW to rework his deal so that there is a 2021 component...so stay tuned?

Yeah I'm glad we didn't get rid of Sutton, I think he's a better cover man than Hilton. Besides, in this league you need as many good DB's as you can possibly get since the 3-4 wide is pretty much a base package in today's NFL.

At some point, the discussion is going to be whether you stick with Spillane (who’s playing well) or go with Williamson (who has been pretty darn good wherever he’s played).
Hopefully, they are both playing “so well” that it becomes a tough choice.

It can depend on the matchup too.

I think the work Williamson in slowly until he picks up the defense completely then I expect him to replace Spillane (who will still play on certain downs).
