2011 - sat out the rams game christmas eve in pittsburgh with his high ankle sprain (played a monday out west in San Fran then the saturday) but played the finale against the Browns
2017 - sat the finale
played full seasons in:
2008

His QB are not all MVP caliber QB or even great QB, but it's realistic to think you can have success with a young QB, but the important thing is to draft a good QB and if the steelers have the chance to draft one, they must not miss their chance and they must put him in a good situation.
How do you draft one in the first round that is "a good QB" for sure? Seems like there are a lot of first round picks of who are supposed to be "a good QB", but don't turn out to be worth that high round pick.
Can Ben play well and stay healthy in 2020?....yes he can, but it remains to be seen if he will.
Can Ben play when he is in his 40's?.....yes he can, but I would not bet on him doing much nor playing like he did when he was 30, so the Steelers should probably look for a QB in the next year or 2.

So based on this, he really played 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 without injury?

Ben has missed 7 games in 2013 to 2018...4 in 2015 because of this injury vs Rams, one in 2016 and the 2 others he was sitting out the last week of the season,so this is 5 that Ben had missed because of a injury since 2013.

Drafted a good QB is a different story and yes it is much harder, but my point is that it does not take like 3 years or more to develop a QB in the NFL now .... A young QB can be good at the start, it often happens in the last decade or so in the NFL.
For Ben,I take it year to year but 2020 is a crucial year for his future.

2005 he missed a few games and Tommy Turnover had to start and lose 2. Ben would have won those 2 that Maddox started.
2006 was the motorcycle accident and then the appendix surgery.
2009 he was out one game. Dixon started vs the Rats.
2012 was the year that Batch started against the Ratbirds and won. And Leftwich started vs the Rats and lost breaking his rib on a TD dive.
2015 was the year Vick started a couple of games.
2016 Landry started a few games.

I don't know if this is accurate. Supposedly his injury history. Only goes back to 2006

Re: Is it realistic to think that Roethlisberger can stay healthy and play at a good level in 2020?
I understand that the QB position is in a precarious situation, Ben is 38 years old coming off elbow surgery. Mason and Duck appear nothing more than backups who can play spot duty at best, however there wasn't a QB available at pick 49 or an affordable QB in free agency that could adequately replace Ben. There just wasn't a good fit. Media people such as Adam Schein are just mad they were dead wrong about the baseless Winston to the Steelers speculation. Newsflash media, these NFL teams don't have to do a damn thing you want them to do

The media would have created a QB controversy if the steelers would have signed Winston!
They should also talk about our lack of depth at the safety position if Fitzpatrick gets injured but they don't know enough about the steelers for that!

Sports media: Talk about the depth at safety position? That's too boring for us!

The great Jameis Winston
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhfpQcL1ETc
Every team would be in the bottom 10 in scoring defense with him as QB...How many time that Winston has put his defense(when it was not a pick 6)in terrible field position in this video?
And some medias says that the Steelers are dumb to not sign him?:lol::lol:
That’s just inexcusable

But he's only missed at most a few games in those seasons. 2019 was his first missing alot of games.

In 2004 to 2018,Ben missed 2-4 games due to injuries only in 2005, 2012 and 2015 ... Outside of that, he was almost always available.

Just because Winston was a starter in the league for 4 years .... doesn't mean he should have been ....................
there its a matter of public record now lmao

The steelers think that Roethlisberger will be better according to Aditi Kinkhabwala

Re: Is it realistic to think that Roethlisberger can stay healthy and play at a good level in 2020?
I think Ben will come back "better than before his injury". I work for orthopedic surgeons and have imaged before, during, and after surgery countless times. Rarely do traumatic injury elbows come back at 100%. However, we see TJ type elbow surgeries come back to very nearly 100% strength and mobility nearly every time. These specialists really do know what they are doing and I expect Ben to be back to pre-injury form. Just my 2cents.

I would not be surprised if Ben starts slowly in the first half of the season but in the last two months he is at his best .... A similar season at his 2017 season.

I'm convinced that his elbow was messed up for a few seasons. I believe it explains why he suddenly couldn't throw deep.

Good point….Many forget that Ben was a dink and dunk passer in 2018 and this is not his best version.Hope this is true that his arm is not longer painful.

I’m with you on that one. I think Ben said something to that effect as well that the arm hasn’t been healthy?

Re: Is it realistic to think that Roethlisberger can stay healthy and play at a good level in 2020?
I agree that he did seem to lose something on his long ball. I certainly hope it comes back. That said.... I'm not against the style he played in 2018. He was pretty good.
Dinking and dunking down the field is not a bad strategy when you have a senior citizen (jk) at QB and possess a good defense that will keep you in most games. You just have to be able to hit the long pass plays after have when you need/want them.

I prefer to run the ball more often than to see dink and dunk too often...The best version of Ben is when he can throw deep in very efficient way ....I'm not talking about pass over 30-40 yards but pass in the intermediate zone like 10-15 yards in the middle of the field.
If our running game is better and more explosive and Ben is successful with the passes over 10 yards, the steelers will have a very good offense ... But if the steelers rely too much on the success in 3rd down and on the red zone and that Ben needs to attempts 7-8 pass per drive just to be in the red zone, it will be more difficult .... Of course it didn't help in 2018 that the offense had the worst starting field position in the NFL but it is true that Ben was not the same in the throw of over 10 yards in 2018 .... The red zone offense was the biggest reason why the numbers were good but we can not always rely only on that.

I believe he did and teammates mentioned it as well. There was talk that the team would be docked draft picks or otherwise penalized for not mentioning it -- nothing came of it though.
I think he has had a wonky elbow since at least sometime in 2017 and then it just finally frayed all the way apart in Seattle. If I really strap on the tinfoil hat, I start to wonder if it goes back further than that and drove the first mentions of "retirement"? If your job is to throw the ball and you can't do that without pain -- maybe you start to wonder how long you can or are willing to do your job?

Ben has been such an easy target for several years but it's been worse since last year ... In fact it would never be worse than the offseason in 2019 when Ben and Tomlin had all the heat for the situation of a former steelers wide receiver….
You can't have a great career in the NFL (or other sports) for 15 years (maybe it's going to be more, we'll see) if you're lazy(outside of Shaq maybe) but I'm probably biased

He has never been nor will he ever be a fitness fanatic like some. But as you pointed out, you don't start in the NFL at a high level for 15 years on accident.
