knock off the baiting please thanks :) this thread was started in good spirit to get to know one another and to drop all the other bullshit that has been happening.
No baiting? Oh, forget it then... I'm out of here.
1. Catholic.
2. Politics - I hate politics, politicians, political parties, and numbskulls that curry their favor. I believe that the Republic that was left to us by our founders was and is the best form of government that mankind has ever conceived. Our Republic guarantees us all equal freedom under the law. It is our responsibility to preserve it for the generations to come. Elected officials should be selected on the basis of their experience and service to their peers, then voted on. The legislatures should be peopled by citizens that serve for a limited time. Only the noblest should be considered for higher office. Anybody that seeks office should be tarred and feathered.
Very well stated.
3. The Constitution – was conceived by brilliant men who framed it with great understanding of history, human nature and politics. It was right the first time and needs no tinkering, save amendments that duly elected representatives agree to.
It was brilliantly designed--the separation of powers, checks and balances, dividing responsibilities between the states and feds, etc. I disagree that it was perfect, but fortunately the Framers set it up so it could be amended. That allowed for the abolition of slavery, women's suffrage, etc. There were misfires too such as the federal income tax and Prohibition (which we were able to repeal when we saw it was a failure.) The one amendment I would like to see is one where 2/3 (or 3/4) of the states can pass resolutions to nullify a federal law.
4. Tax – Everybody should pay an equal percentage of what they earn to the local, state, and federalies – individuals and businesses alike. The total of those taxes should not exceed 10%. There should be one simple document on which one declares their income and submits the tax to local authority. Tax revenues should be distributed up and there should be no redistribution at any level.
Not bad, but it's important to remember that any level of income is a lot more in some parts of the country than others. Plus we should have a personal exemption so we don't tax someone into poverty.
5. Gubmint budgets – As the available moneys would be determined by revenues gathered locally and distributed up, there would be a finite budget to operate from at every level. Get it done with the available funds by operating within the jurisdiction defined by the Constitution. Appropriate those funds like they belong to your loved ones because they do.
Excellent idea.
6. Every able bodied American should serve the country for a year or two prior to “higher education”, and be available for service until age 50. We should follow the Swiss model of military service. Career service should be encouraged through rigorous qualification, exceptional training, superior accommodation, and a level of prestige commensurate with any other profession.
I don't like this one so much. The government would essentially be stealing the labor of its citizens instead of paying market value.
7. “Special interests” and their agents should be shot after torture. They are the bane of the Republic.
I can definitely get behind this.
8. Education should be provided by “community of interest”. All else is inculcation. The state and federalies have no business in education.
Agree on the feds...I can see a role for the state.
9. I don’t particularly care what adults do behind closed doors as long as they don’t violate the rights or wills of other adults. And I’m less interested in hearing about it. Anybody that violates or harms a child should be fed to sharks. After torture.
I agree completely.
10. If you’re aware of the needs of another, then address them. You were selected.
Yep...that's what the Messiah called on us to do.
11. If you think something is “art” then buy it. Don’t expect the public to buy it for you.
Yep...the market should decide what's good art, not the government.
12. As you sow, you shall surely reap.
13. If you’re a natural or naturalized citizen, I will love you and serve you as a brother because you are. If not, go through the process like everybody else did. And then step up to your responsibilities.
No objections here.
14. We are free to do not what we want to do, but what we ought to do.
Meh. Do what you want even if it's not right, as long as it's not criminal. And accept the consequences.
15. Vote like you mean it. And don’t vote for idiots.
How? There aren't any non-idiots on the ballot.
17. The NFL exists to provide the Steelers with teams to play. The teams should be professional and provide enough competition to maintain the interest of Steelers fans, but no more.
Yep, although I don't mind sharing the wealth every once in a while so Saints fans can enjoy a Lombardi or Tony Dungy can win a ring as a coach.
Riiiiiiicci.
Ricci, Ricci, Ricci, Ricci, Ricci......

:chuckle:
I'm believe that Jesus Christ is Lord of all and will one day return for His glorious reign.
I believe that government has certain roles to care for the betterment of the masses, not the minority, and for the strengthening of the country as a whole not individual corporate sponsorships.
I think companies put too much stock in the bottom line and not enough in the people that make the bottom line better.
I believe that there is such a thing as freedom from religion, but it doesn't mean that this country can't be lead in a manner that is set by the standards of the Lord. It was in fact one of the reasons why people left the Old Country to be here in the first place and worship God.
I believe that politicans believe they are invincible and need to be replaced with every day people who understand how to budget, create opportunities for hard working people, and provide a lifetime of freedom from those individuals who don't believe in our ways.
I do agree that the NFL was created in order to make more teams for the Steelers to play.
I believe as adults we should set a better standard for our children and not leave it up to the "idols" in this world. Lord knows they aren't the best at it either. We should teach our children respect for themselves and for others.
I believe that we should live this country in a better situation for our children. But until we are willing to put aside our differences and pay for our country's past sins, it will never get better. We need to teach our children to stop living for ourselves and live for something better - TOMORROW!
I'm sure I didn't cover them all, but that should be a good start.
Well, considering that he was on the board earlier this afternoon, I'd say he wasn't serious.
What, exactly, has changed about this board? I've asked you this before and never got a straight answer. We're more laid-back here than Shithole Forever ever was...we just don't let the inmates run amok like they did over there. And that's somehow a bad thing?
I sense a different vibe so far.
Maybe I'm wrong, and hopefully I am, otherwise this new forum won't be what we all are use to and won't be as successful.
by "inmates" you are referring to anyone w/over 5000 posts, right? (rhetorical question... i already know the response, so dont bother.)
anyways, that sort of derogatory term would be considered "name calling", flaming, and baiting under current rules, would it not?
maybe focus would be better served on those who are currently breaking the rules as opposed to what others have done in the past. :noidea:
I was raised as a Jew. I do believe in a God, but I think the Torah (Old Testament) as well as the scriptures for other religions, are merely a guidebook on how to live a good life and be a decent person. It has aged well for the most part, but I do believe there's much in there that no longer applies, like how it's a sin to wear clothing made from different fibers (not what you thought it was going to be, huh?)
I think most politicians start out actually wanting to do something good for their country, but the longer they are in office, the more jaded and self-serving they become. We definitely need term limits on Congress to avoid this problem. Also, the government's regulatory agencies need to stop hiring people who work for the companies they are supposed to be overseeing. I think this goes back to the whole self-serving aspect.
I believe that gays should have the same exact rights as we do, especially in terms of getting married (call it a Civil Union if you have to.) These aren't "special" rights given to them, it's the rights guaranteed to every American.
The core of the Constitution is great, but I do believe that it is a living document that needs to be changed to fit the times, as it has been done many times in the past (that's why they are called Amendments.)
I agree with stlrtruck about setting an example for our children and living for tomorrow.
You're all wrong about the NFL, it's made to provide the people of Baltimore with a football team (from here or stolen elsewhere) and to let murderers (and rapists) escape jail time.
It's called a "metaphor," Tony. I'm not calling anyone names, and you know it. Do you EVER get tired of trying to stir the pot?
Like I said, when we started this board, we wanted to leave everything that happened at SF over there. It started migrating over here, which is why we have gotten involved. Trust me, we'd MUCH rather sit back and enjoy this forum that we created without having to get involved very much at all. But we need help from everyone to make that happen.
Baiting and flaming wasn't permitted on the "old board" either.
This board is working just fine from the many compliments we have received on it.
What I'm seeing are a couple of very unappreciative people and quite frankly, that pisses me off considering all of the hard work Gary, Eric and I put into getting this place up and running in less than 48 hours after our hiatus from the new regime over at SF. We wanted to keep everyone together and build this board cyberbrick by cyberbrick, which I believe we've done successfully. I'm sorry you don't see it that way but the majority of the membership is very happy to be here.
Please. We didn't start this place to become the "board gestapo," but that doesn't mean that anything goes, either. However, if you find the relatively few and easy to follow rules here so distasteful, you're free to go over and take a look at what an essentially unmoderated board looks like: http://forums.steelersfever.com/show...108#post831108.
WHAT!!!!!!
Our Mods on the old site were constantly putting out brush fires and having to deal with flame wars (within the confines of what they were ALLOWED to do). They were handcuffed into allowing A LOT more than was necessary in regards to bad behavior.
The old sites saving grace was the Mods who were fans first...and great posters. PERIOD!!!! The best of that site was brought here with the hope that flame wars and personal problems with others could be left behind either through a little self-discipline or through forum rules that would prevent the rest of the forum from having to deal with the BS!!
Its pretty simple....the forum will NOT allow a small group of people to make the forum a negative enviroment.
Seriuosly...bottom line.
We want this forum to be a positive place. HELL...EVERYONE admits that SF was better before the bipartisan nonsense!!!!
The Mods and Administrators want NOPTHING more than to get back to the roots of what makes you (the posters) the best group on the web...while doing their best to creat an atmosphere of Steeler comraderie.
The personal pissiness ...grade school enabling....and negative push has GOT to stop...and it will. Either by the posters in violation or by the Mods and administration. I have NO doubt that we are going to have some people on the outside looking in...who I wish could be a little more disciplined in their behavior towards others.
Some of you have the ability to effect this board in a VERY positive way by just backing out of the negativity....I hope this will be the case.
For the record: Being called names or being told to FO has never bothered me. I get along with the very same folks as a Steeler fan, who infuriate me and who I've shared mutual abuse with as a Conservative. We bring out the best and the worst in each other and I personally think it's part of what makes this group special.
Appreciate that...we could use more members with "thicker skin"....and I appreciate those that do...but the reality is that those members who DO take things "personally" have a legitimate gripe when they are criticized or maligned.
From my point of view...the problem will always be with the offender... and not the offended.
All this hostility reminds me of this commercial:

Interesting.
A thread about stopping the name calling and declaring one's beliefs has turned into a--- thread--- about -----name calling
(incidentally, when I read the link from SF where supa is being...well...his supa self reminded me why it's good to not have to read his posts on a daily basis).
(I guess I could "Trust-up" and just put him on *ignore*...):heh:
I Believe in....the ignore button!
BTW - what does "FOAH" mean? :chuckle:
Is that some form of praise that I earned? I suddenly have been greeted with this around here a lot. Thanks guys! "FOAH" right back at ya! :wink02:
