i just watch the games. But Im still astounded by your know it all takes on KP, MR, Wilson and Fields. Its amazing the steelers haven't hired you as a consultant.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Mark Sanchez had good playoff numbers in 2009 and 2010 with the same recipe that the Patriots used in 1985 with Eason as QB, like running the ball as often as possible and hoping that your QB avoids mistakes and the OC gives him some easy throw at times....If you ask for more than that, you are in trouble and he is exposed

Yeah, ARII just needs to stop wasting time and money and log on here and find his Mojo.

He’d only do that if he wanted a rational answer. There are quite a few others who know much, much more…just ask them…

In all seriousness i hope ARII continues to listen to the person who convinced him to release Canada immediately. And that could actually have been purely his decision.

That was probably his barber.

We will never know about that, and a lot of other decisions made.

No matter how you feel about Kenny Pickett, it's hard to deny that the Steelers did him no favors by bringing Matt Canada back last season.
I still have a hard time comprehending why we would have possibly done something so stupid, Canada was in way over his head and had no business being a NFL OC.

I agree...I don't think Pickett would been good enough to be a true franchise QB....every team need a true franchise QB but keeping Matt Canada after 2022 is the worst decision by the Steelers since the 1983 draft with Marino....Everyone except the Steelers knew that the decision to keep Canada for 2023 was going to be a disaster

Would Kirk Cousins be a franchise QB? Tony Romo? Randall Cunningham? Joe Flacco?

Cunningham I could see. The others, no.

But would you consider that group franchise QBs? I’m not sure Pickett could be at their level either…I’m not sure if we will ever know if he has that capability but what we saw in Canadas offense is that he was nowhere near those levels. But the question is: would you consider that group of QBs “franchise level”?

Maybe in the second tier especially for Cunningham and Romo, like in the top 10 but not top 5 (just thinking about Stafford or Eli Manning you can win a SB with him if your team is very good) and I would be happy to have that but still not in the first tier...Flacco in his prime, I would be happy too, since he has proven on multiple occasions that he can be great in big moments
Right now, Mahomes is in a tier alone, like the Superman tier if I can say that, after that it's Allen, Burrow if healthy... Maybe Lamar but he struggles too much in the playoffs but in the regular season ,he is elite

I would say they are all franchise guys, including Stafford. Some would not. Kirk Cousins seems to be the one debated most often as not being a franchise guy.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
I guess I differ from most , I think the term Franchise QB gets tossed around way to much ...sure there are 32 NFL franchises but not every team has a guy who should be considered a franchise QB ....there are about 10 guys that are true franchise qbs ... then you have about 10 decent to solid starters and the rest are just placeholders .....
those numbers may vary year to year , maybe 8 franchise guys , maybe 11 or 12 but you always have as many teams without a guy as teams with one ... lets face it there are only so many guys on the planet at one time capable of being hit by 250-350 pound guys every 7 days over and over again and bounce back to deliver strikes 30 yards down field more often than not successfully without an inordinate amount of mistakes .... and that is why most years in the draft the first guy off the board is a QB even if he isnt the best player in the draft he is playing the most important position that normally the first half dozen or more teams either need or just got the year before and are trying to figure it out ........

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
In my opinion, you aren’t automatically a franchise QB. You have to become one. In order to do that, coaches and management need to get you a line and weapons. Take Andrew Luck. He was a franchise quarterback, but the man was getting killed. I certainly don’t blame him for retiring. If he had stayed in that system……the way it was, he would probably have some artificial body parts by now.

I would tend to agree. I think you can have a franchise QB (Cunningham, Jackson, Allen, Burrow, Cousins, Rivers, etc.) but then you could also have a hall of fame franchise QB (Roethlisberger, Brady, Brees, Manning, Mahomes, Bradshaw, etc.). If you are only qualifying the HoF QBs as franchise, I get that but don’t expect to draft one of those everytime you need a QB because they aren’t dime-a-dozen players. The Romo’s, Allen’s, Cousins, Burrows of the world should be more of the goal and if a Roethlisberger or Brees type arises from that group then that’s a bonus.
Going from Ben to Pickett and assuming Pickett may be the next franchise guy (or anyone they draft after Ben) is being somewhat irresponsible in your thought process. Also to think that they can just draft a guy and that guys going to be the guy…same…the thought process is flawed.
Ryan Leaf was once a “franchise guy” and some argued the best QB of that draft…franchise guy has to be earned as you say…

A franchise QB simply means that a team is settled on a QB and is no longer in the market for an upgrade. Not that there aren't better QBs, but none of them are ever available (e.g., Mahomes, Allen, et al). Being "settled" means he's THE guy, not just A guy for the next ~10 years. You also believe that if you put the right pieces around him, he can win a Super Bowl.

I also think there has to be an “it” factor. I almost hate to use that term because it is so over used, but I think here it’s true. I’ll only speak about Ben. To me, his “it” factor was his tenacity. He got killed plenty of times for it, but I never saw him ever give up on a play. He could make chicken salad out of chicken shit better than any QB I’ve ever seen. His ability to extend plays is unmatched, and there is no one I’d rather have the ball in his hand, behind, with 90 seconds left, than Ben. That final drive against the Cards in the SB was a thing of beauty.
Jay Cutler had all the tools to be a really good franchise quarterback, but he just didn’t get it.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Was Andrew Luck a franchise QB?
Is Brock Purdy?
What about the 10yr old look-a-like in Arizona?
Russ was definitely a franchise QB in Seattle.
Sidebar....Rodgers followed in Favre's footsteps to the Jets. Does he play for the Vikings in the next couple seasons?

I’m certain Colts fans thought of Luck as a franchise QB. He should have been. Management didn’t look after him. He asked for line help and didn’t get it. If he had some of the OLine men that Manning did, he might still be a franchise quarterback. Who knows. I just know he was a really good QB.

Other than being drafted last in 2022, there’s no reason Brock Purdy wouldn’t be considered a potential franchise QB. If he was drafted number one overall, people would be all about Brock Purdy.

Question wasn't for me but I will offer .... I don't think Pickett has shown he can be as good as either of those players as of this point. The chances are he probably won't, just like the chances are Fields will not turn his career around. It's just rare for players to have a better second or third act. I will say one thing for Pickett: he did show a bit of a clutch gene in his limited play, which neither Romo or Cousins have shown. But, at this point, I'd have to take Cousin or Romo over Pickett all day.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Some have KP as the worst Qb they have ever seen play the game smh. The truth is nobody has really seen KP's potential just flashes of sort. He was so badly mismanaged here its a wonder he even won any games. But yeah, he's a crying little bitch for wanting out.

Re: Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles.
Pickett is not a Steeler. He’s a quitter. I hope he subs for Hurts one game and throws 5 picks. Then I hope Hurts comes back and throws 6 picks. That way the Kenny fans (aka “fan”) can say he played better than Hurts.

If the employee ain’t cutting it you bring in someone who can do the job. That’s the job of the supervisor. Its business. No participation trophies in NFL. Tomlin has his flaws but quitting isn’t one of them.
