I don’t know the answer to this question. I know that it is extremely valuable for a rookie to do all the off season work but for a vet like Rodgers - I can’t say how crucial or not this is to winning a championship. It may also be team dependent. No matter how much off season time he has with the Browns he will not win a SB there and if he joins the Eagles mid season because Hurts gets injured he could win there even with no off season training. This of course however limits the number of teams where he can win a SB to maybe just 2 or 3 and decreases the odds of one of those spots opening up.

Shough has second round ability, a first round arm, release, and arm talent, while also being very mobile. He shows he can do a lot of things very well.
However, he only played in 42 games due to injury and transfers. He is 25-years-old. He didn't have huge production.
I gave him a third round grade because of his injuries and age, but hoped he may be available in the fourth. Of course, now everyone knows about him as several big-name evaluators have called him a hidden gem. Now there is talk of him going in the first round. I don't know if that will happen, but it is literally crazy how nobody knew who he was, to now being a potential high pick.

The 1970s Steelers had many more HoF players and possibly the best NFL defense of all time in 1976. Comparing player quality between those generations is not even close. Franco, Webster, Greene, Ham, Lambert, Blount, Swann & Stallworth and Donnie Shell plus others. It is a phenomenom you will probably never see again.

Deciding to retire or not is a tough decision, specially for the game you love to play. Steelers are choosing to wait for Rodgers, no one is forcing them.
It was reported Rodgers and the Steelers met recently with Rodgers coming to the facility. Rodgers instigated this. The Steelers were headed to the Michigan pro day and had to cancel that. That would be Rodgers coming our way on his own. There was talking. We don't know what was said. Maybe the only thing being waited on is a specific date? Who knows? No reason to be all negative about everything.
If Rodgers comes, then so be it.
I am kind of excited thought to see what Rudolph can do, personally.
yeah, well there is interest on both sides. Agree theres nothing bad about the situation, only good can come of it. Its reportedly for one year, maybe a second. Worst that can happen is it doesnt work out and we have a bad or mediocre season and then get good draft position in 26 or trade up if need be. Tomlin, Watt, Cam want a shot in the playoffs before its too late, i don't blame them for that.Quote:

They are in a spot now because they haven't done well drafting and developing quarterbacks.
The problem also is that somebody needs to talk to the organization and coach about how to build a team that has staying power. Trying to bring in 40-year-old quarterbacks for a 1-2 year run isn't going to get them where they claim they want to go. They need to bite the bullet and start drafting quarterbacks and then putting every resource they have into developing them and supporting them. Mike Tomlin runs to a veteran quarterback like a moth to a flame. He controls every aspect of the roster, and he alone decides which quarterbacks play and under what parameters that he wants in place. Since Big Ben moved on, when Mike Tomlin has had a choice to name a starting quarterback, he has chosen almost without exception the worst option with the least upside to be on the field.
I have always supported Tomlin and like him personally, but I now have doubts that he can make the decisions necessary to put together a great team because he holds on to what he knows and refuses to change. I don't believe he has adapted enough to the ideas and schemes of the times, and nothing will get better if that doesn't change. He seems unwilling to let a young quarterback have full control over an offense. He tries to control too much and has watched every play on film over and over again as an OC like Matt Canada put an inferior offense together that cripples offensive football and destroys quarterbacks for 5 seasons. I hope he has learned from those mistakes and lets Arthur Smith control the offense with less demands. Let a young quarterback learn. Prepare him until he knows his playbook and you think he's ready. Then let him play and live with some mistakes while he learns to play at that speed in the offense.
It is most certainly time for young blood at the quarterback position, and time for the organization and coaching staff to draft well and make that happen.
Will they and can they? We will see. I hope they take a swing at one of these quarterbacks coming out and continue that process until they find a great one.

Ben was just the QB that rode that line. Ben would do what HE wanted and dare them to bench him. How was that gonna play out? We don't have that QB now. Once we sign ARod, maybe. A QB that knows how to run the offense, that knows his guys and how to use them, and doesn't think twice about carrying the team on his back if necessary. Tomlin never had to be that coach with Ben, and now fans want him to just become that coach.

I think that when you do not have a franchise QB you have to start kicking over stones until you find one. Hopefully you don't send the entire franchise into a tail spin while you search. 'We need' to draft a QB this draft that is not afraid. That has the confidence needed to see the field and make plays the defense allows, not strictly run the play called but within the confines of that play. Once Tomlin and Smith can see he not only has the confidence, but also the knowledge, I think the training wheels will come off pretty fast. Coaches scheme the game but the players have to make the plays.
This is the one thing I really like about Shedeur Sanders. I think he has the "6 inches between the ears" that makes every great QB a great QB. That, plus his ability to be accurate with the football. I really like him as a prospect. Time will tell.
I also really like Will Howard and Kyle McCord for the same reasons, just I think Sanders is a smarter QB at this point. But I would love to draft any of those 3.
I think there is a unspoken deadline, I have nothing to prove it as such but I feel like the draft is the deadline ...sign by then or if our guy is there we are taking him and moving in that direction , now if said player isnt there then signing him could still happen but the likelihood is vastly reduced post draft IMOQuote:

IMO the decision needed to be made to draft a QB and not worry about Ben's feelings, or trying to "take one last shot at a SB with Ben". In 2019 the Steelers could have drafted Lamar Jackson instead of Terrel Edmunds in the 1st round, or in 2020 they could have drafted Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round instead of Chase Claypool, but we know the mindset then was that they still needed to get Ben some help.
IMO, its not that they didnt draft QB well or develop QB's, but rather they never had a chance to get a good QB in the draft because they were picking too low in Round1 or they didnt have the stones to piss Ben off and possibly draft his successor when they had the opportunity.
They won't draft Sanders. Too much glitter.
