exactly , Denver spent a 3 to move in behind them that could be our 3rd rounder and still would have got Burns if he was our guy

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
I didn't think in a million years this would be the pick. Not what I would have done in Colbert's shoes. BUT. BUT. I can see the logic. Burns MIGHT have the most upside of ANY CB in the class.
Reading this made me feel a bit better - http://www.thehuddlereport.com/archi...rtie.Burns.htm
They can teach him how to tackle.

If he had been gone, I'd have been fine... because, Jack, Spence, Billings, Reed, Robinson, or Bell would have been there.

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
I am super f&&&ing pissed at the fact that we could have had a dominant top 20 DL that could have definitely helped this team this year, but instead get a 2nd round CB that won't be able to play this year. This team is in win now mode, Ben won't last forever, let's draft a 1st round quality player who can play in 2016

Don't get me wrong: I like Burns. I talked about him as a possibility at 25.
But, they could have gotten him at 31 AND gotten an extra R3 pick.

Burn's Mother died, his Father is in Prison, and Burn's has Brothers & Sisters starving to death...nice to see the kid has his priorities in order.....

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
Final thought - I got to go and do responsible adult things. But, the draft is a total package.
If they did "reach" for Burns @ 25 - fine. How does it look if Hargreaves is there in the 2nd? At this point what about Butler? Nkemdiche?
Additionally, it is clear that the "rebuilt" Steelers secondary will be driven by two factors - speed and getting your damn hands on the ball. Golson, Burns, and Mitchell are all fast and have magnets in their hands.
I am still not sure that I like it or agree with it, but I'm not ready to storm the castle and burn the monster yet.

Yeah, it's not that I don't like his potential as a player. He has ridiculous raw talent. It was the way they ran to the podium immediately without even considering trades. They either decided he was their guy, or they panicked when William Jackson went off the board and they had to get one of the top CB's on their board.
Mr. Rooney wasn't kidding when he said they would address the secondary.
Now let's see if any of those DT's will be there in the second round. There's going to be a big run on them soon.

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
Well hell, I was hoping with all the DL's dropping that Clark would fall to the Steelers in the 2nd.
Fuck the Packers.

I don't know, maybe that would've been better. At least then maybe it could be rationalized that it was the best player on the board. Not a reach when there were better players AT THE SAME POSITION :poop:

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
Now everybody is trading down..............

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
Well most of the other NT talent is further down the draft. So this pretty much Guarantees the Steelers take a WR in round 2....C'mon BOYD!!!

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
At 58... there WILL be a quality DT.
Billings
Robinson
Reed
Hargrave
Johnson
Butler
Nkemdiche
...plus others...

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
Steelers went up to the podium so fast, like they are smarter than everyone else.
Worst 1st round pick since Bill Shakespeare.

Do the rats need a NT?

Just watch ... Billings is there at 57 ... we're gonna get him after all!
Nope - Bengals. Taking both the players we wanted.

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
I really think the Steelers have difficulty judging CB talent. If they insisted on a CB, why not Mackenzie Alexander?

this eerily reminds me of last year when we drafted Senquez Golson in the second round in very similar fashion.
in both instances it's like they had their minds made up they were going to draft a CB no matter what...

I think the Steelers really liked what they saw in Hargrave and are convinced they could get him in the 2nd. Plus, what if Billings, Butler, or Reed slides to us in the 2nd.

Yup, now the fun part begins. Were there 5 teams ahead of us who thought DT was THE top need, enough to use the sacred #1 pick? Nope. Are there 5 teams who could justify one in R2 for a top-15 talent? More like 10 teams.

Neither has played a down but both are busts

pretty darn good if you ask me in a draft that had this many late medical and other surprises...

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
I guess the Bengals are already giving up on Darqueze Dennard possibly since they took WJ3 in the first tonight. Dennard was their first round pick two years ago, and I know a lot of Steelers fans wanted him at the time as well. In addition, many of us also wanted Justin Gilbert as well a couple years ago, and he has been a huge bust/disappointment.
My point is just that you never really know how players are going to turn out in the NFL, but CB does seem to be a problematic area in the 1st with quite a few busts over the years. I'm hopeful Burns will not be another in a line of disappointing 1st round CBs. He has speed, fluid movement, long arms, and decent hands...so if he works hard maybe he can become a very good player for the team sooner rather than later.

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
Rumor is... Denver did call Pittsburgh and they wouldn't move down, in fear of losing Burns.
Apparently, other teams (Chiefs) had Burns as their pick.

Re: NFL Draft Day 2016 thread
3 DTs selected after our pick.
