You must have really considered the Steelers to be incompetent at finding a qb between Terry and Ben. How many qb's did they go through? Stoudt, Woodley, Malone, Brister, O'Donnell, that Miller guy that got a whole half against Jacksonville and was never heard from again (talk about not giving a guy a chance), Tomczak, Stewart, Graham, Maddox. You could consider the Steelers to have been terribly incompetent. Or maybe it's REALLY HARD TO FIND A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK. So they try one after another and none of them are going to work out until one does. So one could give the Steelers a break until they find the guy.
Or, if you have an agenda to bash Tomlin, then you can put the unrealistic expectation on him that every qb he tries MUST be the one and he should KNOW AHEAD OF TIME whether a guy is going to be the one, and if he signs someone who doesn't work out, bash him endlessly. Given that we'll probably have to go through a few more guys before we find THE guy, I'm sure that's going to be really scintillating conversation.

Actually, his agenda is to ruin this forum. On the other forum he posts on he supports Tomlin. He's just here to sow discord. Just agree with him and move on. Hopefully he'll get tired of it and go away.

So everything I said about Tomlin, even though it's true, is discredited because I "have an agenda to bash Tomlin". Actually, my agenda is to tell the truth about Tomlin rather than trying to make excuses for him every single time.
Then you distort my expectations of him by saying that I expect that "EVERY qb he tries must be the one", when actually I just said in the very post you are quoting that all I expect is that he be right "once in a while". Hell, he's made about five QB decisions since Ben retired. I'd have been absolutely ecstatic if he had been right just ONCE. And if he had been right just ONCE, the Steelers wouldn't be in the crappy QB position they're in today.

WTF??? WHAT other forum? I haven't posted on any other Steeler forum since I've been here.
And as far as trying to "ruin this forum", you Good Ol' Boys have been doing a great job of that all by yourselves.

Wait.. who thinks we did a great job finding QB’s in the 80’s?
Steeler fans talk about the 80’s like it was the depression era of QB play.
You all must love the Pirates front office.. lol

I think all he was trying to get across is that finding a franchise QB is not an easy thing to do. There are examples of other eras when the Steelers were without a franchise QB. What I can agree with here is it's not from incompetence or lack of trying, it's just difficult to find the right QB.
Is Aaron Rodgers the right QB for the Steelers? Heck no! But he may be the best option for right now, for this season. It's kinda incorrect to say the FO is being incompetent by signing him now. It's still part of the search for the 'right' guy. What would be incompetent would be to stop looking and just try to get high draft picks every year. That's my opinion.

If Aaron Rogers is the best and only option, I am going fishing on Sundays.

Why are you not already doing that? Perfect fishing weather right now.

Nothing wrong with going fishing on weekends regardless. That said, I would never stop watching the Steelers just because they make a decision(s) I don't agree with. I would have preferred one of the QB's from last year until we get to draft one, but if the sign AR I will root for him.

It took more than five tries between Terry and Ben.

No argument there. We have had douche bags before, and I will survive this one becomes a Steeler.

I know its not easy.. but its also an issue to dump QB’s so fast. Grabbing vets and only giving them one season or giving them a low offer makes it hard to truly evaluate a QB in a new offense.
I really hope we aren’t looking for a Ben type season from one of these QB’s. I say at least 2 years before you dump a QB.

I don't necessarily disagree in principle. We scrapped the entire offense after Canada.

I wanted Kenny in a new offense to see if it was Kenny or Canada.
I wanted Mason to stay after his 3 game run to see if he could build on it.
I preferred keeping Russ or Fields to give them another year on this offense.
Just feels like Tomlin and company are too quick to pull the trigger for short term gains but have no long term plans.
-
Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
Well, we'll see how the draft goes. If they take a qb first then that shows they are commited to trying to fix the qb problem. Mason isn't the answer... I hope Dart is there and they grab him.
-
Re: Russell Wilson's Next Contract
The other side of the coin is that the Steelers have properly evaluated the on field production of all the post Ben QBs. Moving off them quickly was likely the proper decision.
Duck Hodges is out of football.
Rudolph would be if the Steelers weren't desperate.
Kenny Pickett is one more off season away from falling out of the league.
Wilson got a low-ball offer from an equally desperate Giants team. He'll be out of work next year.
That leaves Fields. And jury is still out here.
Who knows if all this is true. Or this guy or that guy could've been a bit better if this or that.
But that above list is not a murderers row of QB talent.

Exactly. The Steelers' problem was not just in "finding a franchise quarterback". It was giving the QB's they "found" the time and support they needed to determine whether they were franchise QB's or not.

Properly evaluated? Oh really?
In 2022:
They started Trubisky instead of (a) starting Rudolph or (b) giving Kenny reps with the starters in the preseason and getting him ready to start from the get-go.
In 2023:
They started Trubisky instead of Rudolph for the first three games after Kenny got hurt.
They made it clear that Kenny would not even have a chance the next season to start games under an OC other than Canada.
In 2024:
They made no effort to re-sign the QB who had won three games for them down the stretch and saved their season (and Tomlin's non-losing streak).
They brought in Russell Wilson and anointed him the starter.
They benched a QB who had gone 4-2 for them in favor of Wilson the moment that Wilson recovered from his injury.
They stuck with Wilson when he was playing terribly down the stretch instead of going back to the QB who had gone 4-2.
In 2025:
They made a lowball offer to the QB who had gone 4-2 for them the previous year and let him walk, despite having no other QB's on the roster.
And if all the QB's that we're talking about were so bad that "moving off them quickly was likely the proper decision", then what does that say about their judgement in bringing them in in the first place?

Beggars can't be choosers.
As usual, you have missed the point. I've been clear for a long time. The Steelers have been trying to win the lottery buying used scratchers. All the QBs you have listed are terrible. Most will not be in the NFL by the end 2026. The few who are still in the league will be journeyman back-ups or third stringers.
Again....until the team either loses enough games to pick in the top 5 or trades a boatload of picks and players to move way up in a future draft, they are going to keep cycling through awful QBs. And since they are all awful, you try each one out quickly and when they stink, move on just as quickly.
You are talking like any of the QBs they had were not terrible. The BEST option was Fields. And I am a big Fields supporter, but I wouldn't have paid him what the Jets paid him.

What a bunch of cry babies they were to do that. They should have stayed at all cost and kept washing Big Mikes balls until they were out of the league.

I think he's saying the Steelers moved on, not the qb's moved on.

cycling through awful QB’s is a terrible strategy.
We need to:
Steelers need to stop lying to themselves. Watt is 30. Minkah doesn’t make splash plays anymore. Blow up the defense and get picks to move up for a legit QB.

I'm not going argue that. I proposed trading the entire defense years ago.
The NFL has proven what works. What the Steelers are trying to do works 1/10 times at best. They're being dumb.

No, YOU'VE missed the point. Not all the QB's they had were "terrible". Kenny wasn't "terrible". Fields wasn't "terrible". Rudolph wasn't "terrible". The two QB's they had who actually WERE "terrible" were Trubisky and Wilson, and those were the two QB's they chose to anoint and hand them the starting job on a silver platter. The Steelers mistake was that the guys who WEREN'T terrible (particularly Kenny and Fields), and who possibly could have BECOME franchise quarterbacks, were not given the support or opportunity to do so.

do not take this as an "I am opposed" question ...
but if we can see Minkah isnt the same player doesn't everyone else ? with his contract what does he fetch in return ??
TJ expected to get 40 million per year on the wrong side of 30 with no QB of the Current let alone Future under contract , meaning you are not contending for championships is beyond stupid IMO so yes if you can get multiple 1st round picks you do it 10 times out of 10

We have the actions of all other teams speaking very loudly that all these QBs under discussion are second and third string QBs.
You think very differently bof their capabilities. I enourage you to begin applying for NFL front office jobs to bring your revolutionary and singular scouting ability to the league.

That is a matter of opinion and remains to be seen. I look forward to watching Kenny light up other teams as a Brown and Fields light up other teams as a Jet. Nah, I don't really expect either one. I think it's likely the Steelers saw their true potential and rightly moved on from them.

Good points. I wanted to jump in and acknowledge that it's possible that Pickett and Fields tear it up and we all rue the day they got away.
Anything is possible but life wotks on what is probable.
And the overwhelming weight of evidence to date is that is a very low probability.
Typed without my glasses using autocorrect do this likely reafs like nonsense.
