Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
It was etched into George Pickens' eyeblack, clear enough to be read by the head coach who'd pampered him for a couple years now, by the coordinator who'd put together a scheme based primarily around him and, not to be forgotten, by the quarterback who'd been rebuilding his own brand by flinging footballs his way all summer:
'ALWAYS F---ING OPEN'
... for everyone to see, from Mike Tomlin to Arthur Smith to Justin Fields to all the rest of his offensive huddle, to a national TV audience on NBC and, by extension, to the 67,380 in attendance at Acrisure Stadium.
What a clown. What a joke.
Only the joke, by 12:58 a.m. Monday, when a storm delay finally allowed the Steelers to fall a play short of the Cowboys, 20-17, at Acrisure Stadium, would be on Pickens after yet another petulant, pouting and at times pathetic performance in catching three of his team-high seven targets for 26 yards.
Because this time, they'd bite back.

TRENDING: #Steelers receiver George Pickens SHOWED ZERO EFFORT LAST NIGHT while ‘running’ his routes.
I’ve never seen a player so turned off like this.
THIS TYPE OF PLAY USUALLY GETS THE PLAYER CUT…

There might be a curse on Steeler receivers going on here
AB, MB, DJ, GP…

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
And here comes the fanbase ready to turn on Pickens after praising him as “different” than the others. Same story time after time after time.

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
So unpopular opinion:
Where are the other player leaders? I never played pro sports but I’ve been on teams before. Guys wanted to do something dumb and other players would just make them stop.
I’m going to think that his teammates knew and didn’t care.
And if they did and didn’t handle it - that’s on them.
Coaches can’t and shouldn’t do everything.
That’s on Fiekds or Wilson or Watt or whoever to put a stop to or embrace. Whichever they choose.

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
This comes back to my post in the "F***** Trash team" thread. Our offensive coordinators since Todd Haley have fucking blown. How is it that other teams can get guys wide open but our schemes require either circus catches or threading the ball into tight coverage. I don't expect a receiver to be wide open every play but my goodness they have to have some schemes that get one open every now and then. When AB was at his heyday he was so darn good because they would get the ball to him in space and allow him to create. As fans we get frustrated every week watching the same shitty offense, so I'm sure the players are feeling it just the same. They are only doing what they are being coached to do. That is where the problem starts.

Hi name is not Wilson. His name is not on the ball.

Funny how losing brings all this stuff out and makes it a big deal. You can do anything if you're winning.

not a curse just a terrible coach and front office who keep drafting head cases thinking they are the ones who can change them. Again this is just ore proof of Tomlin's lack of culture.
When it happens this often its not a curse its a Trend.

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
Why do you think dudes that physically talented as the above list fall in the draft? It isn't like their talents are hard to see.
Steelers have a long track record of taking chances on guys other teams won't touch.
It is neither new nor a big deal.
Khan will just fleece some team in a trade again if he has to.

so you are saying we could get 2 first round picks for him ?
cool just get the Raiders to give us 1 and Adams and pay a portion of Adams salary for the next few years
and I will give the Browns a 2nd for disgruntled WR Cooper and I will be slightly ahead in terms of draft capital and have the WR issues settled

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
I still dont understand if Roman Wilson is healthy, then why isnt he active on Sunday. The young man takes things like effort, blocking, route running very seriously in a Hines Ward kind of way. He has to be not 100% or in the doghouse somehow.
He is a rookie and not likely to be a leader in the room yet, but when guys show up with work ethic and effort, it just gets respected.

They activated some PS guy who came from Denver but won't give Roman a helmet. Is he Brandon Boykin in disguise?

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
If the Cowboys had lost....there would be a thread somewhere about how CeeDee Lamb is a problem.
He had 5 catches for 62 yards, caused an INT in the redzone, and cursed out his QB and others on the sidelines. Then had "body language" issues according to the broadcast about 3 different times that it was pointed out.
But the Cowboys won, so no one remembers.
Soap opera for dudes nonsense.
And how much work ethic and effort can Wilson have if he has yet to know the playbook (as per multiple reports)?

I am sure it didnt help, that said he had issues in College that caused him to drop to the 6th round, his college tape at Central Michigan cant be denied , he could play

That would maybe solve some of the teams problems, so they probably won't be doing that.

Re: Kovacevic: Teammates peeved with Pickens' petulance, and rightly so
This is both funny and sad:
Asked if he has seen Pickens not running his routes as hard, Tomlin said it's "certainly part of the load management discussion."

I'certainly won't argue about the malcontent recievers. I think the concussions took Brown from bad to worse. He really went off the rails. In and outside the game.

Again…if they are winning…it’s not an issue. Context matters.

I think I read that the big star WR for Alabama wrote "Kill Everyone" on his eye black.
Does anyone really care about this?

Don’t care as long as players produce on field. They can rape, pillage, eat babies, purge their neighborhoods…as long as they are putting up stats and winning games, who cares!!! [emoji38]

Raping, pillaging and purging neighborhoods are all acceptable behaviors.
But I'm against eating babies.
