Linebackers in This Draft Class
If this needs moved, my bad.
But who do you all know about that can play 3-4 ILB, be available outside the top 3 rounds, AND is heady enough to wear the green dot?
It's maybe a fruitless search but all evidence points to Queen needing to be flanked by a thinker.
So I'm wondering who that could be.

Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
Cole Holcomb (questionable to return) and Elandon Roberts have done it. There was also talk last season that Minkah would wear it.
I do remember Wilson maybe being mentioned as wearing a dot at senior bowl? I could be imagining that though.
Payton Wilson.
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
I figure Roberts can and will do it this year. But figure Queen needs a long term partner.

I don't know if there is a LB prospect that is an immediate 3-down type player. I like Junior Colson from Michigan but I doubt he drops to the 3rd round.

I have liked Tommy Eichenberg as a ILB prospect for a couple seasons but he kept staying in school. I've seen him listed as a 4th round prospect.

Both of these guys seem to possess high football IQ but I guess I don't really know.

I think JD Bertrand from Notre Dame is a guy that could. He kind of reminds me of Robert Spillane. A guy that may not have prototype size/strength or athleticism for ILB, but just makes plays. That being said I think he is a round 6 or later kind of guy unless somebody really likes his game better than that.
Any thoughts on Bertrand?
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
I believe Cedric Gray from UNC wore the green dot.
Linebacker coach Aaron Curry worked out both Ohio State linebackers(Eichenberg, Chambers) and Cedric Gray at their pro days. They'll likely be drafting an ILB sometime in the draft, maybe one of those 3 names.

DS would be the one to ask about ND players. I am posting some game film spot lighting Bertrand. I do love the way he tackles through the ball carrier instead of that shoulder punch mess we see a lot now. He can get owned a bit by OL stepping up to meet him.

First glance looks like a ST contributor year1. Needs time in the weight room. Could sneak into a backup role later in the season. I didn't notice him doing much pointing or directing in those games. Was he a signal caller for the defense?
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
I like Cedric Gray a lot , also like Jeremiah Trotter Jr
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
Ok, but Moj was asking about LB outside of the first 3 rounds. Do we think Cedric Gray ends up a day 3 pick?
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
I only mentioned Gray because he was already mentioned , but Payton Wilson was mentioned too and no way he makes it to day 3 either so there is that ...
I also Mentioned Trotter and if truth be told , while he may hang on till a bit later he also could go early only takes 1 team to fall in love and his DNA could get him picked earlier
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
PFF position rankings have Gray as the #7 ILB. 153 overall on their big board.
Gray is listed as a 4th rounder on "NFL mock draft database"
So good chance he's a 4th rounder. I also think Trotter could slip into round 4 due to his lack of size.

OK, sounds good.
I think with the addition of Queen, they might not prioritize ILB as much. O line, CB, D-Line, WR become more important from what I can see, but it always comes down to who is the best on the board when they are on the clock.
Re: Linebackers in This Draft Class
The Steelers add Queen to pair with Roberts. That is an good starting pair. Currently there is only Mark Robinson and Kyron Johnson behind them. I see ILB as a big need until we know the status of Cole Holcomb.
Unfortunately, there are not really any ILBs in this draft that are ready to come in and be a 3-down LB and wear the green dot. I just don't see one.
I do like the idea of Dallas Turner moving inside and having a 'freshman year' to learn the position. But should we spend the cost of pick20 on that? Probably not.
Does Shaq Leonard have anything left???
