I think it is a shame that Harris had so much of his first contract mired in a terrible system. I think with an actual OC, he would be viewed as one of the top dual threat RBs in the league. As it is, he will likely get one year and then hit FA with a ton of wear and not much interest.

I’m going the other way on this Mo, I think this Steelers will give him another contract. They’re not quite Franco and Bleier but they could be.

I can see that. I do not think Harris will want to stay here. And why would he? He is getting run into the ground on a bad offense and now is in a time-share with another RB. He was made a captain because they didn't have anyone else and then got that yanked from him when they just gave it to the fancy new QB.
If I was Harris, I would sign with "anywhere but Pittsburgh". I know that all the decisions that have impacted him are highly defensible and likely correct from a team-first standpoint....but they sure do suck from a Najee Harris point of view. I mean the guy has proven himself really adept at running routes and catching passes and all they throw to him are little out routes to the flats with no blocking and poor set-up that JV backs from East Nowhere State could run.
Honestly, I feel bad for the guy. I really do. I think it has been borderline criminal what the "offense" has done to him.

Great points.
I think one thing will sway him to wanting to stay.
He wears cool shades and doesn't paint with a broad stroke. Also he doesn't like questions about his own contract status!

I get that, and I’m sure it’s wishful thinking on my part, but maybe he will get “jazzed” about our new OC, (whoever that might be).

That's the case with almost every RB in the league. Not much is based on past performance when a RB has 5 years worth of collisions.
I also think he was overdrafted, so one could make the case he's been overpaid with Pittsburgh.

Maybe they can successfully recruit him? I dunno. It all depends on how much $$$ Harris really wants. Kinda like most things in life, I guess.

I dunno. I don't like taking RBs early in the draft either. But Harris was one of the better ones in the entire class. And I think on a real offensive team....he would be a super-duper star in the NFL that no one would quibble with his draft status. Unfortunately we will never really know because by the time he gets out of this offense, he will be "old and broken" in terms of RBs.

Meh. You have a much higher grade on Najee's performance than I do. Seems like if he has a couple good games people start singing his praises like he's Derrick Henry. It's not all the o-line and the scheme. It's easy to isolate a RB when he gets the ball. He's personally improved a lot by not dancing and being more decisive. I give him credit for that. But he's still the second best RB on the team to an UDFA.

Should Steelers pick up RB Najee Harris' fifth-year option?
By Aaron Becker | Last updated 1/25/24
Najee Harris is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2024, which means the Steelers have a big decision to make on the former-first round running back this offseason.
Should Pittsburgh pick up his fifth-year option?
The Steelers will have up until May 2 to exercise Harris' fifth-year option for the 2025 season, but head coach Mike Tomlin seems to be all in on the No. 24 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
"He's been what we needed him to be. He's a 1,000-yard rusher three straight years," Tomlin said. "And I just think that speaks to his consistency, availability. He's been really solid."
