We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
If we're going to overhaul the offense and replace Canada and Pickett, its probably time to look at WR in this upcoming draft. There are just too many good ones coming out to keep wasting our time on Diontae Johnson. Time and time again he's not on the same page or has a critical drop. He has the tools, but not the head or the focus. He dropped a long bomb that fell in his hands last week too.
Wonder why Kenny Pickett checked down and didn't look his way last week? This is why. He is just not reliable.

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
He’s never been a smart receiver. He can run nice routes at times but the rest of his package was not worth the contract he received for an NfL WR.

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
We need a wr regardless of if we keep DJ (which we will).
Bad game by Kenny. Bad offensive coordinator. This game also showed where we need help in the draft. Wr and center as top priorities

A WR with a brain would be great. What I would give for Marvin Harrison Jr...

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
Someone who could play in the slot would be nice.

Yeah mean the dude dragging the fork around and the little guy that can't catch outside his frame aren't doing it for you?
Weird.
Actually, truth be told, I thought Robinson was going to be able to physically bounce back and have a decent season....but his legs just look gone.

AB had the football knowledge…rest of his brain was garbage but he knew what to do on the football field.

that's true. on-field he was probably one of the best ever to do it. sucks that he went crazy

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
I'm not ready to throw out DJ and Pickens here. If we are going to EXCUSE so much at the QB position because "Canada" then we have to be willing to excuse a ton at the skill positions as well.
I still think those two can be part of a dominant WR group with a functional offense in place.
I also think that in a real offense Najee Harris is a 1200+ yard back with another several hundred receiving and basically never comes off the field.

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
Deep, deep WR class.
Best player of OL, ILB, Safety, DL, CB. Once we start running a pro offense the WRs will be much more productive.

but why when Warren has shown time and time again to be the more dominant player , has more burst is harder to tackle most times and is super feisty and plays with a mean streak ...
He should be the guy we feature week in and week out and Najee should be his backup

I believe you’ve missed my point and are trying to engage in a distinction I’m not making.
If Steelers fans are willing to make very positive projections for KP outside the stifling confines of Canada’s offense, then we fans should be willing to apply an equivalent “boost” to every offensive player.
But most fans aren’t willing to do that. Harris and Johnson are toast.
I am not willing to do it with Pat F. Guilty as much as anyone of losing sight of potential positives and possibilities due to watching this offense just DOA each week.

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
This OC turns slot receivers into 2 yard route runners basically RBs. Ypc for Juju and then Claypool dropped way down when they played slot under this OC.
Now both are journeymen.
On a better offense they would likely have decent stats.

guess I am being dense on this then , cause I am still blinded by the fact that Warren is out playing Harris so if Harris gets a boost in another system Warren would also IMO ...
am I looking at this wrong ?

Right. Of course. But I’m not arguing Warren vs Harris.
Im arguing that the criminal misuse of Harris is staggering and not talked about enough.

I don’t think anyone is excusing anything, just recognizing that the play design and playcalling is making guys look bad. But your right about the wr’s and skill players in general, they would all look better in a better system, except maybe for a couple guys on the O line that need to be replaced no matter what

Santonio Holmes was pretty good at this too. Those eras had a lot of great team leaders. It was a great team culture back then.

Agreed. The biggest reason Jaylen is more successful is he has the burst and elusiveness to make something out of nothing and in this offense that has proven to be a necessity.
I don't remember the reasoning for Najee not running the 40 yard dash, but I wouldn't be surprised if he felt it would've dropped his stock. He's not shifty and he doesn't have the acceleration. When a defender gets in the backfield it's over a majority of the time. Leveon Bell was amazing at this. Jaylen Warren is solid as well.

Yep, they need to give him more toss plays and stretches where he can really utilize his speed. :sarcasm: Someone may have said this before, but I think Najee would really benefit from having a full back.
Actually, what kind of team trying to play smashmouth football doesn't carry a fullback? Instead we keep guys like Gunner O and Conner Heyward.

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
Will need much more than a WR and QB in the 2024 draft…
Start with coaching. After that, the roster is pretty bare after the players that are worth starting…not to mention the positions where there is garbage throughout. C, QB, S, ILB, CB, WR, RB, TE…the list is pretty endless. I mean even DE should be on there b/c Cam is being wasted in his old age…
-
Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
We look to take a WR in just about every draft. This next one will be no different. LOL
But we may need to look at getting a new QB as well. The entire Steelers brass was on hand to see Nix at the Colorado/Oregon game. Just saying.

He just couldn’t land that goalpost….and that was before he was concussed.

Bo Nix or Shedeur Sanders? Maybe both.

Re: We probably need to start looking for WR in the '24 draft.
must be interested in Nix if its a QB , Sanders already declared he is staying in school
