If Belichick Coached the Steelers he'd be Set for Life

Reports out of New England indicate Bill Belichick might have to win a playoff game this season to save his job. That’s despite the fact he has led the Patriots to nine Super Bowls over the years, winning six.
Speculation in Pittsburgh has Mike Tomlin almost certainly getting another contract extension before Steelers training camp opens on Wednesday. That’s despite the fact his teams have missed the playoffs in three of the past five seasons and haven’t won a postseason game since 2016.
Two very different organizations.
Two very different standards for their coach.

That is just media and fans speculating until something/anything happens. The Steelers are viable every single season. And without resorting to cheating. I don’t think either coach is on the hotseat. Guess we’ll find out if/when the owners make a move.

And I might add that Belichick has two rings as the defensive coordinator of the Giants.

The question that was posed is; "If even Bill Belichick's seat can get hot, why is Mike Tomlin's job so safe?".
It is a speculation article.
Nobody really knows if either coach's seat is hot or if their job is safe. Just media and fans speculating.
I will go out on a short limb here. IF...BB lost his job, he would probably find another HC job somewhere, eventually. IF....MT lost his job, he would have his pick of HC jobs tomorrow. I don't care if it makes sense or not. You ALL know this to be true.

I doubt it. Find a job? Yes. Have his pick of HC jobs? No. Why? Tomlin hasn't won a postseason game since 2016.

Makes sense to you or not, 'tis truth.

In fact, I'd argue that the last four years may have been some of Tomlin's best coaching as the team absolutely was better than the sum of its parts.
The problem with Belichick is that he hasn't won since Brady left, which leaves the owners wondering if it was more Brady than Bill. We've already seen the answer in Pittsburgh in the two seasons we haven't had Ben over the last four or so.
Stupid article.

To be fair with the article, this is not a huge difference record wise between BB and Tomlin without Brady or Ben
Belichick without Brady since 2020:25-25
Tomlin without Ben in 2019 and 2022:17-16
This is true,if you look at the entire career, the record of Belichick without Brady is awful but he still won 6 SB and Brady was still not Brady in the first 3
For Tomlin, the next 2 years will be very important.Important like it was for Bill Cowher in 2000 and 2001.The steelers need big improvement since right now the Steelers are stuck in the middle but now the Steelers have more talent, so at some point he's going to need to win in the playoffs, which he hasn't done since 2016, which is a very long time.

If Belichick lost his job today, he'd have a new job tomorrow if he saw fit to accept one that quickly. Same with Tomlin. There's endless number of college teams that would accept either one of them and probably 28, give or take, NFL teams that would hire either one.
say both hit the market at the exact same time...then it's just a matter of ownership evaluating what type of coaching style would best fit their team...
dumb article.

The OBVIOUS, and accurate, point of the article:
Quote:

You know all about the way the Steelers do business. The Rooneys long have believed in continuity with their coach. That’s why the organization has had just three coaches in the past 54 years since Chuck Noll was hired in 1969. That’s why it stuck with Bill Cowher after he had three consecutive non-playoff seasons from 1998-2000. That’s why it will ride again and again with Tomlin despite his recent failures, which include just three playoff wins since the 2010 season.
Live with it.

It's hard to argue with the success the Steelers have had over those 54 years.
I've always said the blueprint for winning is right there for anyone to follow, in Pittsburgh.... if anyone cares/d to follow it.

Re: If Belichick Coached the Steelers he'd be Set for Life
Mike Tomlin, since being hired in 2007, always had Ben Roethlisberger under center. It wasn't until last season that he finally had a team of his own without his predecessor looming over him. He pulled out 9-8 after a horrible start with horrendous Quarterback play, a Quarterback change mid-season, and guiding a rookie QB.

Tomlin is a very good coach. Is he a great coach? I don't know enough to say one way or the other.

That, I believe, we will learn over the next two years or so.

One thing for sure…had Belichick been coach, Matt Canada would’ve been fired…

This is sure even if to put Matt Patricia as OC was possibly the worst move by Belichick in his career...completely inexcusable since it had no chance to work from the start!

Yep. We would have Bill O’Brien instead. I would rather have Leftwich.

Still can't believe he did it.

knowing how the steelers do business, if belichick was a winning coach yeah he'd still have a job here. glad it didn't happen though, the cowher years were some of the most fun to watch

Leftwich is so trash as OC.The bucs offense was so brutal to watch last year.Zero creativity and he would not be a improvement over Canada...Yes he was that bad...By far the most overrated coach among steelers fans

Patricia was never the OC but he had the responsibility to call plays which was really weird…

For me Cowher was the most enjoyable coach in the NFL and he's still very enjoyable. How could anyone not like Bill Cowher?
