Who do the Steelers take with their 1st round pick ? Do they trade up or down ? Who is the pick ? I say they stay put at 17 and take Broderick Jones.

Do the Steelers trade up? It's tough to say. They did so in 2003 for Troy P., in 2006 for Santonio Holmes (but only five spots, and it only took a third and fourth to do it). The last time was 2020 when they got Bush. So, they hit gold once, hit, perhaps, silver (or greenleaf?) once, and either missed or had bad luck with a blown out knee once.
As much as I'd like to see them get a shut-down, top tier CB, I don't know if they're willing to do it unless someone drops enough for them to move up with their original 2nd round or even a third round pick.
I'm going to cheat.
Prediction: Darnell Wright
Trade up target/pick: Paris Johnson
Dark horse: Luka Van Ness
I would say we have a better shot at trading up than down this year. I think if the Steelers can get into the top 6 they trade #17 & #32. If they get into the top 9 they trade #17 & #49. If they sit still I feel it will be a top tackle (Jones/Johnson) if they fall. Or the Wright, Banks, or Van Ness.
Best OL/DL/CB available
I think the Steelers draft Joey Porter Jr at #17 overall.
I have seen recent mocks that have JPjr going to the Patriots or the Commanders. I think Bill and Ron will grab OL first if available.
Peter King's mock has us taking a WR with JPjr still on the board. We shall see.
I don’t think any of the CBs are available so I’m thinking they take Branch followed by Jones.
17 Darnell Wright, OT - Tennessee
this year I just do not know ... so much waffling on many players esp corners and who the top 5 are hell 8 guys are in the top 5 corners this year (yeah right hows that possible) the question remains are we in the market for a tackle early or not ??? we simply don't know how they feel on it ..... do we deal DJ or do we keep him , if we are dealing him do we take a WR in round 1 or do we feel A11en can assume that role and CA3 steps in as the "draft pick" because he didnt play a snap in 2022 or do they wait and take my guy (Tillman) in the late 2nd/early 3rd.... could we go all in on a DT I mean Cam is getting long in the tooth and we simply do not have a Cam 2.0 lingering in the shadows ... do we like Kayzee (even being light in the pants ) as a SS ? do we change our backend to play 2 deep and work in Neal on running downs to put in the box ??? so many possibilities to use pick 17 on and the potential for a trade down or even up ( please no trading up) is there maybe more this year than any in recent memory .... all that said we also are clueless to what Khans approach will be and how he assesses value ...
this year will be a interesting one for sure and I do not think you can lock in on any pos or player at this juncture as we are dealing with far to many unknowns
