Who is your choice as the Steelers best ever placekicker and punter?
Who is your choice as the Steelers best ever placekicker and punter?
Re: Who is your choice as the Steelers best ever placekicker and punter?
Chris Boswell - no steelers kicker in the past has been as consistent and could kick 50 yarders
Colquitt - took only 1.5 steps to kick it - never got blocked as a Steeler

I concur

It'd be hard for me not to pick Gary Anderson, but then again he never had to kick in Heinz Field, though I think he would've done fine.
Without researching our punters at all, the name that comes to my mind is Josh Miller, so I guess that's it.

Yeah, Anderson played for 22 years, 13 of them with the Steelers. I have to put him in the discussion just for his longevity.

Mr Automatic Gary Anderson
Re: Who is your choice as the Steelers best ever placekicker and punter?
Can anyone help me out here. Much of Anderson’s career I was pretty young. I know he was automatic but from how far? Did he have a bigger leg when he was younger? If not, maybe Bo’s has a slight edge there but is WAAY behind on longevity!

Boz without a doubt has a bigger leg .. and without looking it up I would guess his percentage is better too, it was a different game back then 80% was considered excellent ... in todays game if you don't do that you do not have a job long

Sounds right. I remember thinking that as long as it was 40 yards or under, go do something before the commercial break because Gary would nail it. But I feel like, and for many in that era, 45+ was an adventure. But my memory lies to me constantly.

Can we give Boz a couple of more years before we give him the crowned jewels. I love the guy, but before you answer “The Best Ever”..look back. Best Ever………Silly .???

Best FG percentage in NFL history: Justin Tucker
Third best: Boz
Re: Who is your choice as the Steelers best ever placekicker and punter?
Boz hands down regardless of how young he is. He's tops on 86ward's list of full time kickers (the dudes at the top don't count). Boz kicks in Heinz as well. Imagine if a guy like Boz or Tucker kicked in a dome?
