The best team in football?
Beat our toughest opponent today. It wasn't the most convincing win, but you have to tip your hat to the coaches today. They made the necessary adjustments and grinded out a very physical victory. I'm not convinced the Steelers are better than the Ravens, but stealing one in Baltimore is a hell of a win.
Imo, there are 5 top dogs right now. I still believe KC is in a league of their own at the top. After that it's very tight...
1. Chiefs
2. Steelers
3. Ravens
4. Buccs
5. Seahawks

Re: The best team in football?
The Steelers aren't better than the Ravens. And the Ravens aren't better than the Steelers. Every way you measure and examine the rivalry between the two teams means that they are evenly matched. Each has their strengths and weakness.
But the Chiefs are just in their own tier right now. Then for the AFC it is the Steelers and Ravens in whatever order you prefer. Then the a clump of teams comprised of the Titans, Bills, Colts, and Raiders.
For the NFL it looks to be a two horse race between the Bucs and Seahawks for the top spot. Then the Packers, Saints, and ????.
Chiefs or Bucs are the best team in football right now. Steelers and Ravens and Seahawks are right behind those two.

Yeah, I have to agree with your top three here. This game proved nothing except that both teams hate each other and can play good, hard-nosed football. If we can hold off and beat them on Thanksgiving as well, only then will I give the nod to the Steelers. In fact, today, the Ravens looked like the better team all-in-all, but they also looked like they just didn't have quite enough juice to go 60 minutes like the Steelers do. So, again, 50/50. Any Given Sunday.

Re: The best team in football?
Kansas City imo. They're playing good in all phases, have the most dangerous playmakers, and Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL. Right now they're the defending champs so that's their crown until it's taken away.

Re: The best team in football?
We have a game in Dallas next week to end this 3 game road trip. Yes I know Any Given Sunday and all but if we play our game we easily should be 8-0! Who would have thought we would come home from this trip possibly 8-0! Not me I was hoping for a 2-1 record with a win against either Tennessee or Baltimore, but now I want it all!

Re: The best team in football?
This is answered in February.

Re: The best team in football?
Hard time believing they are better than the Chiefs but I got to say after today they do belong as the 2nd best in the NFL as of week 8

Styles make matchups.
I think the Steelers match up better with the Chiefs than the Ravens do. The Ravens just get blown off the field by the Chiefs. I think the Steelers are more diversified in what they are able to do, and that they would be a much tougher out against the Chiefs.
Just my opiniion.
In the NFC, I think that Bucs are the best team right now. The Seahawks have the Russell Wilson factor which makes them extremely dangerous. After that, no teams have really distinguished themselves. I think the Bucs are the best team by a considerable margin, and they should get better as the year goes on.

I think you are right about KC. I think the Ravens tended to match up better against the Brady-led Patriots than the Steelers did, but I think Pittsburgh matches up better against the Chiefs than Baltimore does.

Re: The best team in football?
As good as KC is, they have some weaknesses, particularly against the run. If we can get our offense rolling, we can hang with them, and we have a too many WRs for them to cover.

That's yet to be seen. Historically we've done better against KC, but the one time we faced a Mahomes-led KC team we got our asses kicked

Spotted them 21 points. Mahomes went off with 6 TDs.

That game was a lifetime ago. Two different teams, well really one different team they are the same.

We scored some garbage time TD's, the score wasn't as close as it looked.
Though I agree with the counter points, we do have a much better defense than the last time we played them.

Re: The best team in football?
You've got to beat Mahomes by only bringing 4...just like Brady in the past. Mahomes is #1 against the blitz and makes teams pay when they're out of position. KC has speed for days on that team, so an untimely blitz could be fatal. Correct me I'm wrong, but I think Pittsburgh blitzes more than any other team in the league by a considerable margin and I also believe they are the best in the business at it. If the matchup happens in the playoffs it will be interesting to see how Steelers approach the game. Will they try to pressure Mahomes with 4 or try to confuse him with the blitz?

May depend on the four that are pressuring. Don’t have to worry about that for another couple of months.

Re: The best team in football?
The super bowl champs are still the best team and playing like it, Mahomes is playing lights out, we’re up there, undefeated, I would put us in the top 3 right now

Yep and barring a lucky playoff upset we will have to face them eventually which means we cannot afford to drop games (like this week at Dallas) that we shouldn't because at 7-0 we need to focus on getting home field advantage for that possible if not inevitable game. Yes I know KC plays in bad weather but I'd rather play them in Pittsburgh when all the marbles are on the table instead of KC.
Then if we get that far it's all going to come down to our defense vs Mahomes. Our offense will score but whichever defense plays better wins the game!

That is not how to beat Mahomes, you have to get pressure on him fast and keep him in the pocket. If you blitz, it has to be successful and get pressure to him fast, then don’t let him break contain to extend plays. He is going to get his plays, but from the 3 games I have seen, that has worked the best against him. Also, the offense has to be rolling.

It’s a similar approach to beating Jackson but Mahomes can throw.

Exactly, same idea, but have to have the offense rolling to keep up, fortunately their run defense isn’t the best, so I think we match up with them as good as anyone else.

Re: The best team in football?
So the plan is to apply sticky coverage downfield, while getting quick pressure on the QB? I mean that is a great plan and should give any QB at least some degree of trouble.
Now, how does anyone propose to do that? Say the Chiefs are back to health enough to play a bunch of 3R/1 TE/1 RB. That puts the Steelers in nickel. So your pass rush is Watt/Dupree/Heyward/Tuitt. Then a CB for every WR. Edmunds gets the TE. Minkah gets centerfield. Who gets Bell or CEH? Spillane? VW? Those are bad match-ups. Put Edmunds on the RB and shift Minkah to the TE...with everyone else having no help? That seems risky. So play some zone or man/zone?
What is my point? It is super easy to say cover downfield and get home with 4 pass rushers. But with the collection of talented and fast weapons on the Chiefs offense, it gets a bit harder to put it into practice. There is a reason they have only lost 5 games in the last season and a half.

The only way I see a chance of any of that happening is confusion. You have to beat Reid and Holmes mentally. Andy Reid Ha proven that he can be beaten. It’s Mahomes that you really have to confuse. It’s not easy, but it is possible.
We could also see some strange defenses come from the Steelers that maybe we haven’t seen yet? Maybe it’s not a nickel defense. Maybe they go with something that hasn’t been unveiled yet. We saw a lot of weird stuff last season. We saw some off the wall stuff last week with 5 LBs in there. Whatever happens, let’s hope that: A. It gets to that point and B. That what ever they come up with, ultimately works...possibly twice (if Russell Wilson gets there).

Re: The best team in football?
KC will be a tough out this year and, Mahomes is a different animal and, has so many play makers.
-
Re: The best team in football?
The best defense against the Chiefs is ball control offense, keeping Mahomes the hell of the field. The only viable gameplan is to play perfect defense every play and hope he doesn't pull off the perfect play to beat it anyway. Look at the Super Bowl last year, the 49ers played great defense and rattled him for 3 1/2 quarters and he still explodes for a double digit comeback victory
-
Re: The best team in football?
Go back and watch the Bronco Chiefs game (if the Broncos had an offense they win that game). They just got to Mahomes quickly, rattled him and for the most part kept him in check. We have a far superior defense than the Broncos. Same with the game they lost, pressure/contain Mahomes, score on offense. I am not saying that it will work, because Mahomes is great, but that is the best chance we have.
