Lol. That’s a long ass deal...
With a guy like this you want to keep him around as long as humanly possible
When any other Chiefs player asks for a contract extension:

Good for the Chiefs that it is NOT tied to salary cap.
Guaranteed for only $140 million. Once that runs out (no details yet) - almost certain that Mahomes holds out for a new deal with secure $$$.
Whenever the guarantees run out and assuming he's still playing at a star level, he will attempt to renegotiate.
Albert Breer:
It's a 10-year, $450 million extension.
• Folding in rest of rookie deal, $477M over 12 years.
• $63M fully guaranteed at signing.
• $141M injury guaranteed.
March rosters bonuses = key to tying the Chiefs in. They vest 1-2 years early.
Here’s a list of his Rolling Guarantees:

So to sum it up, small base salaries and very, very large roster bonuses.

Interesting. Looking at this table, after the 2022 season and for every season through the end of the contract, Mahomes is cheaper from a cap perspective to cut than to play. In fact, for much of the contract; there is ZERO dead cap for cutting him.
I am not sure I understand all the rolling guarantee structures. Apparently each year's roster bonus kicks in the year before or even earlier? I also suspect with the bonus structures and low base salaries there will be no restructuring possible.
Interested to read more breakdowns of this contract in the days to come to see if it is the "both sides win" scenario it seems initially. Mahomes gets buckets of cash and some security due to the early vesting of the roster bonuses and the Chiefs can get out of it after about 3 years. Which also means...I think....that after about 3-4 years either side could rip this deal up and renegotiate without a penalty kicking in....
Well one thing is for sure...the Bears certainly dodged a bullet...
Mahomes is going to have at least 80-90% of the money of his contract...I would very surprised if this is not the case.He is that good.
I think it's safe to assume that Le'veon Bell was not his agent?
Ouch!
Chris Jones and Patrick mahomes Take on the Entire NFL by themselves dammit!
