Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
I have to say, how does this team expect to win by drafting this collection of bums?! My detailed scouting of each prospect yields not a single positive comment! It's time to take out the trash and fire everybody starting with Colbert! 0-16... Let's hope they cancel the season.
Claypool
- Very little wiggle or juice after the catch
- Pedestrian release to challenge press
- Average getting in and out at the break point
- Inconsistent balance out of intermediate breaks
- Will face heavy dose of contested catches
- Needs to get better at stacking cornerbacks on deep balls
- Can be tardy with catch-ready hands
- Not a natural technician as a ball-catcher
Highsmith
- Angular frame lacks sand in his lower half
- Gets bounced around as an edge-setter
- Play strength in upper and lower body will need work
- Hands need to become more violent into initial attack
- Allows himself to be squared up in the pass punch
- Leaves feet when attempting to leap past tackle
- Needs to school up his hands at the top of the rush
- Padded sack stats a bit against Garner-Webb and Old Dominion
Mcfarland
- Runs on tiptoes on stretch plays
- Slow to gather in cut
- Lacks desired feel for run lane development
- Needs plenty of space to operate
- Unable to slow feet and then reignite quickly
- Doesn't have bend to unleash lower-body power
- Runs hard but has below-average drive through contact
- Not enough sand in his pants to trust protection skills
Dotson
- A little short with top-heavy build lacking proportion
- Has issues keeping balance when he's cross-faced off snap
- Not a natural knee bender
- Ducks head into contact attempting to create leverage
- Needs to bring feet with him to prevent from falling off blocks
- Average quickness to expedite combo blocks when needed
- Needs to re-set hands more quickly
- Mirror suffers when he loses proper base width
- Feet and agility to recover are below average
Brooks
- Needs to play with improved discipline as a pro
- Gets outside the structure and freelances at times
- Questions about where his best position fit is
- Tightly bound with sticky hips to open and run
- Lacks prototypical length to challenge throws
- Will have issues covering man in space
- Needs a little quicker downfield squeeze in run support
- Limited lateral agility creates limited tackle radius
Davis
- Arm length falls well below desired NFL level
- Struggles with short-area athletic movements
- Lacks initial snap quickness
- Below-average lateral range and too easily cross-faced
- Plays way too tall and is frequently out-leveraged
- Lack of knee bend hinders contact balance and anchor
- Offers no NFL value on passing downs
-
Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
Dong drafts! F- they didn’t trade all their picks for chase young

Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
Can't tell if your trolling or you're actually serious. I do hope it's the first. If it's the latter, perhaps you should go buy a Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey as they already won the off-season championship.

Our rd 1 pick Fitzpatrick any cons? ;)

He doesn't count in this year's draft. They got him when they had no quarterback and it was basically a throwaway year. They only have him a couple years and he'll be too expensive to keep. What a wasted 1st round pick.
Tomlin sucks.

He’ll be lucky to make the 53 this year.
- Plays with some hip tightness that limits lateral agility in coverage
- May not have pure cover talent to play full-time cornerback
- Allows some separation out of breaks
- Feet are more quick than explosive when chasing receivers from the top of the route
- Still needs to improve his awareness when asked to play deep safety
- Has to learn to dial back urgency and play with more patience on the next level
- Comes in hot as tackler and will run himself out of position to finish

Below is Troy Polamalu's pre-draft scouting report that was posted online by Steelers.com.
“Positives: Strongest player on the team on a pound-for-pound basis. Has a 600-pound squat. Real warrior who is totally dedicated to getting better. Good football intelligence and flexibility. Great motor and competitiveness. Excellent in run support and tackling. Will wrap up. Can backpedal and cover. Gets a good jump and can adjust to the ball. Has good range. Intense, physical and tough with a high motor. Strong. Good planting and driving. Can cover tight ends and backs. Very good punt blocker. Explosive. Big 10¼-inch hands. Can cover man-to-man. Big-time hitter who has receivers hearing footsteps. An extra linebacker vs. the run. Excellent speed and suddenness to close. Showed improvement every year. Special-teams captain as a junior and senior. Can cover most slot receivers. Instinctive and can accelerate.
“Negatives: Short for the NFL and is not a real ballhawk. Misses plays because he is out of position. Does not read keys well and diagnose. Struggles covering man deep. Plays out of control and lacks great change of direction. Skills will translate to the NFL, but measurables might not. Gets carried away. Prefers setting up a well-timed hit to break up a play over going for an interception. Does not have great playing speed and range.

Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
I wanted one of the top 4 OTs, they didn't do what they needed to do to get anyone of them. F-.
I also can't understand why they didn't trade their 2nd round pick for Leonard Fournette. Double F-.

I think that sums up Troy's career. What a bust!

Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
The draft profile of Roethlisberger in 2004
Scouting report from NFL.com
Negatives: Puts nice zip behind his passes, but his long ball will wobble at times (throws better from the right hash than left) … Needs to put some air under the ball when his receivers break open … Shows patience in the pocket but will try hard to make the play, resulting in throwing into coverage at times … Loses sight of his deep receivers when rolling out and on bootlegs … Despite his speed, he is not a great runner, relying more on overpowering the defender rather than eluding him … His deep tosses will sometimes take off at a low trajectory and high velocity … While he is quick to pick up the blitz, he needs to improve a little on reading zone coverage (needs to do more play action and misdirection, but shows confidence when his receivers work in man coverage, as opposed to the zone).
….
“Calm under pressure. Has a great arm and can make all the throws, including an accurate deep ball with superb timing. Highly instinctive and creative: can make things happen when the play breaks down, improvises very well, and makes it hard for tacklers to bring him down. Not mobile and takes too long waiting in the pocket for ideal target situations to unfold; gets sacked too much as a result (contributing to his durability issues). Still throws too many pickoffs. Has been in a worrisome amount of off-field trouble.”
…
From Sports Illustrated‘s NFL Draft Experts.
“Negatives – A pocket passer with marginal mobility and cannot escape the rush. Must improve his downfield accuracy as well as the placement of the outs. Majority of snaps are taken out of the shotgun.”

-too slow
-played at a small school

Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
One of the big reason why the grade after a draft is so overrated!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMY5...ture=emb_title
Their comment on Wilson(average backup QB),Sherman(average 5th round pick) and Wagner were funny!

Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
NEVER FORGET:
“10 years from now, we’re going to say Limas Sweed was the most productive and most talented WR in the 2008 NFL Draft class.” -- ESPN Analyst Todd McShay.

Re: Steelers Draft: Airing of Grievances
Another reason why the grades after the draft are overrated…
...
The following "assessment" of the top of their class was authored by a sports columnist and appeared in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the morning after the first five rounds of the 1974 NFL Draft were conducted:
"The Steelers seem to have come out of the first five rounds of the draft appreciably strengthened at wide receiver but nowhere else. They didn't get a tight end, and the ones remaining are more suspect than prospect. They didn't get a punter, although none of the nation's best collegiate punters went in the first five rounds. They didn't get an offensive tackle who might've shored up what could well become a weakness. What they did get was Swann, who seems to be a sure-pop to help; Lambert, who figures to be the No. 5 linebacker if he pans out; and three question marks."
From this day forward, every time you read an instant analysis of any team's draft class that ends with the assignment of a letter grade, read the above paragraph and enjoy a good laugh. That's what I do.

That sounds A LOT like a few posters I've encountered over the years. At least they have an excuse, they don't analyze the Steelers for a living. Although I'm starting to think any rock could do it, so maybe I should consider it as a side gig.

Whomever said Claypool lacks acceleration after the catch doesn't know who he's talking about.
My issue is our round 3 pick looks like a reach, and I think there were better players on the board for round 4-6.
Ju-ju probably going back to the slot, if Claypool flashes skills on the outside.
