For those who don't know him Tom Dempsey he was born without toes on his right foot. He was known for kicking a 63 yard FG that was an NFL record for quite some time. He seemed to have recovered from a battle with Covid but it was very short lived.

While not a great player, the man's a legend. At the time of Dempsey's immortal boot, it was a record by seven yards.

I tend to think quite a few kickers in the NFL today can break the record, but due to the modern rules which give the other team the ball where the spot was for the kick ( 6-7 yards behind the line of scrimmage ) , a really long field goal is reserved to the last play in the 2nd quarter or the game. Boswell range appears to be about 60 yards.
Amazing that three out of the four that beat the distance or even tied it were at Denver ...
Mile high altitude/lower air density. Fly balls at Coors Field travel farther than they would in parks closer to sea level for the same reason.Quote:

I remember seeing the kick in highlights and couldn't believe it. That record stood for a very long time. I'll always remember that kick.
