Last year for Kevin Colbert?...Steelers won't extend GM Kevin Colbert's contract this season

Unlike their head coach, the Steelers are not going to extend the contract of general manager Kevin Colbert this year and will wait until after the season to do so — if they do so.

Team president and owner Art Rooney II told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Friday that it was Colbert’s decision to wait until after the season to decide on his future with the team. Colbert’s contract with the Steelers expires after the 2020 draft.

“At this stage of the game, he’s really not looking to do any long-term planning,” Rooney said. “We talked and we agreed he’d rather wait till after the season to talk about the contract.”

In recent years, the Steelers have sometimes extended Colbert’s contract around the same time they have extended coach Mike Tomlin’s deal. They did his most recent contract extension in August 2017, giving him a two-year deal just weeks after the team extended Tomlin’s contract. In July 2015, the Steelers signed Colbert to an extension through the 2018 draft, shortly after extending Tomlin’s deal through the 2018 season.

It would be a huge loss and hard to replace .... He was a great GM for us, but the end is coming for him ... He's been our GM since 2000 and it's very hard to be successful with the same teams for 20 years, but Colbert did that

HE is at the age where many retire. I’m sure he has a pile of cash and a decreasing need to deal with a high pressure job. Maybe he wants to retire and enjoy the grandkids?

If the Steelers (somehow) finagle their way into get the #1 overall puck, Colbert will draft Trevor Lawrence... thus, solidifying himself as one of the all-time great GMs.

Otherwise, I expect Colbert to retire.

I have to admit I'm nervous because Colbert is not going to be easy to replace and sometimes his replacement can just be awful ... I'm not saying it's going to be the case, but these are things that can happen, even if it's been a very long time since the steelers have hired a awful GM or HC.... It's still always stressful things like that.

I was also very nervous when Cowher had left after the 2006 season.

And also, if the new GM has a lot of success in its first 5 years (for the win loss record) I think many will say that his success will be because it was with the Colbert players, so this is possible he will not have all the credit, unless the steelers are completely garbage when Colbert is going to retire .... So he's going to have a lot of pressure and he may be in a no win situation unfortunately.

No doubt, that's going to be the goal for Colbert

But I do not know who is Brandon Hunt ... I know he's with the team, but I've never heard of him before.

Brandon Hunt is the Pro Scouting Coordinator Alex K mentioned his name as well. I've never heard of him either

I do not know since when Hunt is with the steelers and how old he is, but I hope the steelers have not promised the job to him, since the times,the steelers did it in the past(in other job), it did not work.

The Steelers need to do interviews to see if Hunt is the best candidate for this job or not.
