If you follow the Pittsburgh Steelers, this is not going to be breaking news. But it does offer some validation when the folks at Pro Football Focus put out their final special team’s rankings of the year and the Steelers checked in at No. 29.

I'm hoping it's just a matter of time before Big League Chew gets the ax.

The fact that the punt coverage units rank low should be a big part of the decision to make a change. The coach cant always correct the kicker missing kicks, but keeping Danny Smith around for his mediocrity is similar to that of Joey Porter's mediocre job of coaching OLB's IMO.
I still think the failed 4th down punt fake vs Saints is on Tomlin for making the bad strategic call, but if Smith thinks he had that play blocked up well, then he is mistaken and that is another strike against him in my book. I still think his departure will come soon.

Oh, you found out Smith isn’t going anywhere.
Re: Steelers' special teams ranks among worst in NFL in 2018
Between a lack of forcing turnovers on defense and constantly taking penalties (on mostly mediocre returns) on special teams the Steelers average starting field position was dead last in the league in 18. When you start a possession inside your 20 your chances of success go way down.

Yet the ST coach is still employed? Would take me less than 30 seconds to fix the problem.

How long does it take for the conversation to go:
“Step into my office”
“Why?”
“Cause You’re Fucking Fired.”

What, as fans, are we missing about the apparent decision to maintain the status quo regarding special teams?
I really don’t get the inaction on having Smith get on with his life’s work.
The stats back up what we’ve seen for years. Why the wait?

All I got is kick blocks. Smith draws those up really well.

When is his contract up? Seems like Rooney waits until someones contract is up before he lets them go.
