Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
LATROBE, Pa. -- Mike Tomlin doesn't have to say so. His tight ends already know.
Ideally, the Pittsburgh Steelers would only have to play with one tight end at a time. They wouldn't need one to come on who's particularly good at blocking or another who's actually a tackle.
There would be one everydown tight end capable of blocking, receiving and allowing Pittsburgh to field Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, the team's slot receiver of choice and Le'Veon Bell all at once.
Yet the Steelers have spent much of the early days of training camp practicing in two-tight end sets. This, Jesse James said, is a matter of installing the offense for everyone before coaches decide which people take the field on a given play.

Re: Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
I have 2 problems with the Steelers right now.
In defense, pass rusher need to rush the quarterback (not in coverage) and on offense, the steelers need to put the playmakers on the field as often as possible.
Re: Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
They know they can throw the ball all over the field, but they must be able to run the ball too. Especially if Bell goes down again.

We can run the ball with 3 WR on the field.Remember the Chiefs games in the Playoffs.
It's not easy to throw the ball with 2 TE, when our TE's are not very good.
Re: Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
They still have e to show 2 TE sets to set other plays and formations up. It's about strategy. Also you can still throw out of those sets. It's not like AB and Bryant are going to bench so a couple of tight ends get on the field. Last year we ran a ton out of that set and brought Hubbard in as the second TE to run block. Personally I think the more multiple you can be with your formations the better.
Gives your opponent more to study in order to prepare for your team

Re: Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
The opponents of the steelers will be happy if the Steelers have several drives with 2 TE formation.
I mean, with 3 WR, the steelers are going to have an amazing passing game and an amazing running game. With 2 TE, yes the steelers will have an amazing running game, but our passing game will suffer a lot, since our TE's are awful.
The steelers had 7 yards per play in 2015 in offense with 3 WR when it was Roethlisberger our QB.
Our o-line is great,so they don't need 2 TE.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. However, I do have the Steelers on my side here. They will run that 2 tight set quite often and they will have success with it.
Re: Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
They'll also run a lot of 4WR sets.

Which I love too! The more the better.

If the Steelers are going to go "big", I'd prefer the 6-linemen set (as opposed to the two-TE sets).
But, I'd prefer 3 (or 4) WRs on the field. Play your best 11.

Why not more 5 WR sets???

Not a fan of the team doing 2 TEs considering that it's a weak link and wr is so much stronger.
Re: Why the Pittsburgh Steelers are running so much 2-TE in camp
I like the 'Jumbo' set. As posted before, I like it better when using extra tackles though.

Maybe when you lead by 2 possessions in the 4th quarter, but since our TE are not a big threat in the passing game, it's easier for opponents to double Brown and Bryant with this formation.

This is a short yardage set, what I'm talking about. Preferably goal line. Definitely easier to run from this formation. As I said, rather use extra tackles and not TEs here. When the defense is more compressed in goal line type situations, go Jumbo and run the best RB in the game. Just one man's opinion.
