CONFIRMED: Steelers to resign DB Anthony Madison

Defensive back Madison to re-sign with Steelers

Perhaps desperate for defensive backs, the Steelers will turn to one of their former cornerbacks and special teams aces to try to prop up a secondary that has been hit by a rash of injuries and perhaps the absence of safety Ryan Clark.

Although he has not yet signed a contract, Anthony Madison is on his way to Pittsburgh to likely rejoin his former teammates in time for their playoff game at Denver on Sunday. He announced today on his web page he will re-sign with the team.
Madison, 30, broke in with the Steelers in 2006 and has been of and on with them ever since.

The Steelers lost two cornerbacks to injuries in Cleveland: Keenan Lewis with a hamstring and rookie Cortez Allen to a separated shoulder..................

Anthony Madison one of the good guys. He will be able to help #steelers immediately on special teams

Well we are getting pretty light in depth at CB and ST, so this makes a lot of sense.

Since we've lost the 2 rookies, this should help. Hopefully Keenan can play this post season.

Not at all. Allen was injured, and you have the pending decision of Clark. Even McFadden was getting some game snaps to get in shape, just in case.

The corresponding roster move for Madison will likely be Mendenhall being placed on IR with torn ACL. #steelers

The question is...is this a precaution to keep Clark out...or is Keenan and Allen worse than originally thought.

I thought if they were going to bring in a CB it might be Warren who played well in the preseason...hopefully Madison can play better on D than he has in the past if he ends up playing any that is.

Why would it be a precaution for Clark? They have 3 backup safeties already on the team...this has to do with the CB injuries

yup, signing Cromartie-Smith is early december seems like an excellent move heading into denver

I really hope Cortez is not done for the year. He really adds an extra dimension that no one else brings to the D

Madison was the best STer we've had and they let him go prior.

LOVE this move if he's the ST player he was...stud.

I'm not worried about ST...with Ivy, Cro-Smith, Battle, Sylvester, etc...they have a number of "aces" on ST...I'm more concerned about A CB that can play D and play it well...which I never thought Madison could do.

Not that we really need that against Denver. It's more the week after that I'm worried about. Hopefully one of Lewis or Allen will be good enough to play by then.

This is true too...but still it'd be nice no matter who we play to have an extra/dependable CB.

A smart move (though my selfishness/fantasy world has Chidi Iwuoma coming back and leading us to a Super Bowl...)by the team.

Curtis Brown is gone and is Lewis/Allen are gone for any extneded period of time, there goes our top three gunners. Need someone to fill the void and Madison always did a fine job at the position.

I swear I would throw myself off a building and slit my own throat on the way down...lol

I would have thought that they would have looked at a RB first considering that we only have 2 on active roster. I'm foreseeing a lot of end-arounds and screens.

Thanks, I found this board looking for any news on a RB signing, the board looks nice.
