View Full Version : The Offensive Line

Unless this team makes some serious investment in the line, we are going to see this window close. They have had bad offensive lines in the past, but this one is clearly the worst of them all. Other than Pouncey, none of them would start for any other team.

For all the good things that Colbert has done...and there are many....the inability to draft and develop offensive line talent is going to be paid to the piper if not this year, in the very near future.

I have no confidence that this team can beat anyone with a solid pass rush because 4 of the 5 offensive lineman simply shouldn't be starting.

Outside of Pouncey, they are pretty damn craptastic. I just hope Ben doesn't get his career ended because Scott is worthless.

I got news for you, Pouncey is getting abused this game too. I think his ankle is still bothering him.

I have to agree with you. But even Pouncey with a busted up ankle is better than what they have in reserve.

Jim Wexell tweeted today that Max is in shape again and his neck is healed. It's time to bring him in for a look. Scott is absolutely dreadful.

Said this in the Gameday thread, but I'm going to say it again here: Scott needs to be released. Tonight. Leave his ass in Indy. You can get some 300-lb lardass from a local watering hole who could probably block better than that waste of space.

We have been managing to get to the SB with this Swiss cheese of a O-line, but they are becoming more and more of a liability. Somethin's gotta change.

We can't keep on referring to 2008 any longer. This team's offensive line is in disarray.

Sad to say, but I hope it's a season ender. I think the Steelers are too stubborn to go off the roster for answers unless they're forced.

Agreed....the '08 defense got turnovers and sacks that kept us in games. We're in the negative right now. Defense has been quiet up until Troy's TD

I wanna see where they're suppose to get the money to sign some of these guys people want them too. Some guys might have to restructure or something. Right now out of the starters Pouncey and Gilbert are the best 2. I'd like to see Gilbert at LT actually...and the other 3 spots no clue at this point...maybe brings Williams back and put him at RG and Foster LG and then whoevers left at RT? hahah Who knows

How should we be pronouncing "offensive" here?

We should see if Jamarcus Russell is available.

I would love to see Flo back. He would instantly improve our run game. However, I don't think Flo is coming back, especially if the rumors are true that he wants 5 million. Max, on the other hand, is a possibility.

Also, I hate to :deadhorse: but Legursky needs to sit for Foster, who is a much better run blocker, imo. We are so focused on our tackles - and rightfully so given their performance - but our tackles were matching up against two outstanding DE's. Our guards along with Pouncy should have been able to move the interior of the Colts defense and open up a few holes. I am not saying it is all Legursky's fault because neither Kemo or Pouncy had a good game, but Legursky is the weakest blocker of our interior linemen.

Harrison got there because Troy wouldn't let Painter throw that side.

Flozell isn't going to help our pass protection woes. I love the guy, but he has no pass blocking ability. There were times last year that he tried to compensate so much for speed rushes off the edge, DEs would just rush inside and get through with ease.

Pass blocking wasn't the issue so much as run blocking last night and Adams could not be worse than Scott. He showed how bad he really is last night. I've never seen something as horrific as his play last night.

In Pouncey's defense he was making holes... Rashard was not running in them, he'd rather run up the blockers back and in to the waiting arms of the defenders. This and he was tap dancing again.

Unless this team makes some serious investment in the line, we are going to see this window close.

Thing is, we DID invest plenty in the offensive line. $24M for Starks, $29M million for Colon, $20M for Kemo ... we've put a ton of money into the line and just gotten very little to show for it. Though the end result is exactly the same: We needed to do a better job than that.

You're still right; I just think it's been a matter of making bad decisions and not getting our money's worth, rather than a lack of willingness to invest.

Also, Scott just needs to go NOW. I have no idea what that clown is still doing there. I don't care who they put in his place; even a CFL guy or an undrafted rookie could not possibly do any worse.

I know. It's amazing the amount of money they have wasted on those 3 guys. I never thought that Starks was that bad though, especially considering what we have with Scott. Atleast I don't remember Starks being abused like Scott has been.

At the time, I remember thinking that it seemed pretty irrational - as if the FO thought that taking average players and paying them like stars means they'll somehow turn into stars. I guess we saw how that works in real life.

I honestly would welcome Starks back over Scott, not even a moment of hesitation on that one. Starks was definitely inconsistent, but that's better than being consistently bad. I do think we need to find another answer for beyond this season, though. Linemen with a history of injuries, especially neck and back injuries, tend to be linemen that you don't know whether they can hold up more than another season or two, and likely while missing half the games in both.

The O Line was putrid last night. However, the D Line was not much better. We got owned at the line of scrimmage last night. Something I hate to say but we are not going anywhere this year if we don't get these units fixed. Colts seem to run at will, while we could not gain 2 yards. Don't even talk about the pass rush. Freeney and Mathis might as well have been Ben's escorts last night. Putrid.
