“@tpolamalu (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/#!/tpolamalu): I am happy to say that I will retire a Pittsburgh Steeler!” looks like Troy will be around for a while. Contract extension.

The Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to terms Saturday with Troy Polamalu on a four-year deal, according to a league source.
Both sides have been committed to trying to get a deal done for the four-time All-Pro, who had one year and $6.4 million left on his current contract.
Polamalu would be the third top Steelers defender to receive a big deal this offseason — behind LBs LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons — and the organization had a longstanding, team-imposed cutoff of the start of the regular season in which to have contracts done.

It's thru 2014 and Troy says it means he will retire a Steeler. That's not a lot of remaining years to watch such a unique player.

4 years....that doesn't seem like very long to watch one of the most amazing football players ever. I can't think about Steelers football without Troy.

EXCELLENT NEWS!!!

I wasn't worried, I never thought for a second that Polamalu would be wearing another team's uniform.

First ballot Hall of Famer, and when he goes in it will only say PITTSBURGH STEELERS underneath that bust.

I'd rather tender him. Much, much cheaper.

Great news. Sad that he thinks he will be playing for only 4 more years.

Great short offseason for the FO. Now let's get busy on the field.

From what I read, it's a three year extension.

If we get 4 more good years out of Troy I will be ecstatic....

I would even be satisfied with two more solid years at this point.

Crazy to think too, but by the time the dea is up, he'll be 33. With how reckless he plays and the injury issues he's already had, he isn't going to last forever.

Great off season locking up all our players. Wallace is only real concern next year but he can easily be franchised..... Can't wait till tomorrow

But ... but ... are defense is too old.

Good deal for the Steelers. Troy is likely done after four more seasons. And we will also have the franchise tag for one more year if his body has held up.

I was thinking this would be BB's game on Sunday, but don't be surprised if "Raven-killing" Polamalu is a one man wrecking crew.

Exactly. The beauty is that we don't have to franchise him next year, since he won't be an unrestricted free agent. I think the next big lucrative contract we need to do is Omar Khan's, since the man is a freaking contract/salary cap genius.

I agree with whoever suggested Omar Khan get a big, fat raise. If he's not the best capologist and negotiator in the business, I don't know who is.

10.55 signing bonus. Not too bad.

For those who know the cap better than I do, does that get prorated over this year too or the three new years?

with that, i see some veterans being let go next season. i figure aaron smith won't be re-signed unless heyward and hood struggle. even then he would only be re-signed at minimum cost for a verteran of his tenure.

Good news. I wouldn't have minded seeing them work on this after the season to see how he holds up this year. With the exception of Wallace, all the key cogs are in place for 2012 and he's not going anywhere without some nice compensation so on with 2011!!!

Excellent. And his agent didn't hamstring the Steelers with some 7 year deal that both sides know would never be honored.
