Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that William Gay will remain the Steelers' primary slot cornerback this season.

Gay plays on nickel downs, entering between LCB Bryant McFadden and RCB Ike Taylor in obvious pass situations. Tomlin praised Gay's "awareness," but he graded out as Pro Football Focus' 81st cornerback in coverage out of 100 last season. Gay was abused twice by Anquan Boldin in the regular season, which is something to keep in mind for Week 1. Boldin should start the year fast.

Let's hope Gay plays better than last year. I'd settle for top 50 compared to last year.

The best I can ask for Gay is that he doesn't suck too hard. I already came to grips that he won't improve any better than what is now, which is sub-par.

As long as he blitzes every time he's out there, I'm ok with it

Gay sucks.

Sorry.

Wow....81st out of 100? And the Steelers decided Warren couldn't do better job? Butler? Tomlin's 80 year-old aunt?

As long as he blitzes every time because he's an effective blitzer. But in coverage, hell I could probably do better.

I bet he gets trucked by Ray Rice this weekend.

Me too. Playing corner in LeBeau's defense is obviously not the easiest thing in the world, and I put my faith in the coaching staff, if they put him out there, that means he's doing a better job than the fans think. Gay actually makes a lot of plays that I even see, it's just that with zone coverage a lot of times the closest guy to a reception looks to be the culprit, but the fact is that he's right where he was supposed to be.

Just as long as he's not the #2 CB, it's fine. But, I am hoping these younger guys start stepping it up next year.

NFL lockout = no practice season = Gay already knows the defense = a new CB on defense would not know the defense = Gay is therefore the best bet = the team keeps Gay = darn, curses, and @#*^( !

Cool

I just hope if BMac or Ike go down they don't put him there. We know he can't handle it, might as well give it to Keenan who will have some struggles, but at least will make some plays on the ball

Looks like we are going to get shredded by every potent passing game in the NFL again
