When he was 8 years old, Cameron Heyward moved with his family from Monroeville to the Atlanta suburbs because his father -- the late Craig "Ironhead" Heyward -- was a running back for the Falcons. Heyward's mother, Charlotte, and brothers, Corey and Connor, still live there.
Now Heyward has the unique distinction of playing for one hometown team and trying to stop the other when the Steelers (1-1) play their third preseason game tonight against the Atlanta Falcons (0-2) at Heinz Field.

"He's going to be a good player, a really good player," said defensive end Brett Keisel, who plays ahead of Heyward on the right side of the three-man line. "The thing that impresses me the most is his work ethic. You always want to see guys with a first-round grade show why coaches and scouts gave him that grade.
Defensive line coach John Mitchell, a discerning critic in his own right, said it is easy to see Heyward's natural strength, agility and athleticism. But what might not be easy to see is how Heyward is almost never knocked off his feet -- a rarity for a rookie

Nice read.
It sounds like Heyward has a lot of natural ability, is working hard and has a great attitude. Would love to see him come in and contribute as a rookie!

Dudes a beast who plays till the whistle every down. With him and Ziggy, our D line looks like it will be good for a while

Heyward is a going to be great. This kid is a better pick than Hood.
Now we just need to find the eventual replacement for Casey Hampton and the 3-4 defense will be alive and well in Pittsburgh for another decade.

May be high praise, but the kid sounds like a young Aaron Smith
hopefully he (and Ziggy) learns everything from him, from play to attitude, before he hangs it up

Kid has good push and doesn't give up on plays. Gotta love that.
He's a bit slow off the line right now. But I think that's transition + just getting back into playing shape. Everyone looked slow the first game, Second they looked faster. Plus, he looks faster as the game progresses (Except for one play in the second game). At least on the tape. That's not really a knock on him though. It'll come around, and probably soon. I'm looking forward to seein him tonight.

This is good to hear about Cam. I hope that he can contribute to this team in big ways.
