I have to go with the Reception. Seemed to change our franchise from also rans to perennial contenders.

There have been many great plays, but I don't think you can even debate this one. Immaculate Reception for the reasons Count said.

With no intention of diminishing Franco's immaculate reception, I am going with Holmes Super Bowl winning catch.

It took absolute perfection on both ends of the ball to pull off one of the most incredible super bowl W's in history.

Have to go with the Immaculate Reception. Just seems to be the play that signifies this franchise.

Not to be a contrarian, but the best play in Steelers history was either the game clinching 64 yard td pass and catch from Bradshaw to Swann in SB X, or the over the shoulder grab by Stallworth from Bradshaw in SB XIV.

As exciting as the immaculate reception was it was a fluke, so that immeidiatly disqualifes it in my book, and if I was going to go with a defensive play I'd probably take Polamalu's game saving interception and touchdown run in the 2008 AFC title game over Harrison's play.

I voted the Immaculate Reception. That play seemed to be the apex that changed the Steelers from perennial losers who every once-in-a-while to a team that became the Steel Curtain dynasty and 6 time Super Bowl Champions. It's like that win changed the culture in the locker room and made the team believe in themselves.

I went with interception, because while the immaculate reception is far more significant, it was partially a stroke of luck. Harrison's play was just sheer determination.

Immaculate Interception. That play won a Super Bowl

This is true, but the Immaculate Reception led to the mind set that led the franchise to 8 SB appearances and 6 SB victories..... That seems to be the balancing point from what was, and what was to be..... Plus it really pissed John Madden off!!!!!

....the over the shoulder grab by Stallworth from Bradshaw in SB XIV.

This one gets my vote. Simply an awesome throw by Bradshaw and a great catch by Stallworth.

I was 14 years old and I still remember this play was the first time I ever stood up in front of the tv in anticipation of how the play would turn out. I've done it countless times since then but will always remember Bradshaw letting this one loose and letting the Rams know that whatever they did the Steelers would have an answer

Immaculate Interception. I understand what everyone is saying about Franco and what it meant to the franchise, but harrison's pick was at least a 10pt swing maybe 14 in a Super Bowl. Then the run afterwards was amazing i must have ran a 100yds in my living room right with him.

No it didn't, it helped, it shaped the 3rd quarter to some degree, but there was still too much time left in the game to say it was the determining play. In other words sans that play and the Steelers play with a different urgency in the second half.

The BB tackle was huge for the Bus. No tackle, no trip to Detroit. No ring for the Bus.

You got that right what a swing of emotion for me on that play, I went from dancing in the kitchen kissing my wife when i knew the Bus was about to score to dropping my plate and putting on a cussing display.

My lord isn't it beautiful to have so many many plays to chose from?!?!?!!!

Hey and for what it's worth Stallworth stated that T.B. had actually under thrown him on that pass, but it is another that I can close my eyes and still see it clear as if it was yesterday!!!

I kinda feel like that old lays commercial...Can't chose just one!!!

And Jerome Bettis is unfortunately the new Bill Buckner and Jackie Smith.

Thank you Ben and Mike Vanderchoke!

HOLY CRAP !!! I have to go with 'Butch' on this one. I logged in to 'reply to thread' with an answer to the poll in mind......and then, I started reading other replies and kept agreeing that that particular play was just as awesome as the previous reply. After a few reading of replies I was totally confused, thinking of ALL of the awesome and outstanding plays that our players have made to standout above others and help our team end the game with a WIN andf/or TROPHY !! Being up in the years, I remember the Im. Recep., and many of the older hero's play, but I also can't forget the Bus fumble and BB's tackle on the runback, and the look on the Bus's face as he was kneeling on the sideline....and then our VICTORY....it all was 'priceless'. And of course the throw from Randle to Ward....geesh, how do you or can you rate which is better ?! It's so great to have a "TEAM" of players....not 1 individual show-off and a 'me' player....but a TEAM of PLAYERS that in any game or anytime can contribute and shine !! PROUD TO BE A STEELER FAN !!! GO STEELER'S !!!

I broke my mom's vase when Stallworth caught that. As he caught it, I jumped up from sitting in the coffee table, on the edge of my seat, and my elbow hit a vase on the table. While my mom was yelling, I was dancing around the den in pure excitement.

I'm going with Mendenhall leg-humping Big Ben at the end of the game.

Although in seriousness, I have to say Ben's tackle against the Colts is the most crucial play that everyone's forgotten about. He misses that one, no Super Bowl. And instead, one of the most annoying teams in recent memory probably wins it. Can't say that about any of the other plays.

And was also the worst loss in steelers history.

Neither. I have to go with Santo's reception. It won us the SB, in the waning seconds, capping a 88 yard (or so) drive to take the lead and win the game. The Immac. reception got a monkey off the Steelers back. It even won a game. But it didn't win the SB, nor did it cap off an amazing drive.

WHen you talk about the pressure, the story, the fact that the offense struggled all year, only to come back and save the defense in that game at the end, after they allowed 2 TD's in the fourth quarter. Well. I have to give it to that play.

The immaculate reception was certainly the most famous and iconic play, but "the best"? Nah. I've got to go with the safety on Tarkenton in Super bowl IX. That made the statement that defined what this team is all about.

heck Willie Parker's 75 yard TD Run in SB XL was no "chump play" either.

Most people however recognize the Immaculate reception as the play that turned us around from the "lovable Losers" that we had been known as. At least that's what NFL Films tells me every single time they show it.

the Best Play in Steelers history...is the next play! YEAH! BRING IT ON RAVENS YOU BIIITCHES!!!!

I agree GBM. While the IR was the beginning of the Steelers run to greatness...let's just say the ball doesnt bounce off a helmet into Franco's hands. The Steelers were still gonna dominate the 70's with all that talent, despite the fortunate bounce.

Harrison's play involved, the right play call, a great interception, effort by multiple players to make great blocks and supreme effort by Harrison to get into the end zone before the half ran out.

The immaculate reception was equal in skill with scoring a goal from the puck ricocheting off a skate. IMO

My favorite thing about this play is Big Ben's block. When you think about that and the tackle on the Bus's fumble, he really has made some great "non-quarterbacky" plays (in addition to the clutch throws he's made). We really are lucky to have him.
