I've got to agree on Woodson and Hope, add Hardy Nickerson, and Chad Brown from the modern era. Searcy too. Lake, but he was done when he left. Faneca was done too.

I'll second that. Hands down for me.

The others that come to mind:

Brent Jones
Duaine Board
Hardy Nickerson - although we replaced him with Levon Kirkland. I give the team a pass on this one.

Johny Unitas, Carnel Lake and totally agree Leon Searcy, Santonio Holmes.

Read a story on Searcy. His agent let him listen in on some conversations without the front office knowing he was listening and they were talking him down. It's all part of negotiations but Leon didn't know that so he left with a chip on his shoulder. It wasn't til later that he learned it was all just part of the buisness end of things.

Oh and that dirt bag agent if I remember right was Drew Rosenhouse (sp).

There is a strong argument to be made that Rod Woodson being let go seemed logical at the time.

The only one who made that argument was Tom Donahoe.

Rod Woodson, and Chad Brown.

Based on the phrase "we let get away" I'd say Kevin Greene.

Woodson acted like a douchebag when he went on the open market to price himself, after being tendered a great offer by the Steelers, then wanted the same offer when the market priced him lower.

Chad Brown's wife was done with Pittsburgh as I remember so he was probably never going to stay.

True, but he was dealing with the biggest douchbag of them all...Tom Donahoe. Donahoe was an arrogant, pompous jerk who caused more problems than he solved in Pittsburgh.

You're right about Chad's wife. I heard she hated it in Pittsburgh from a friend of mine who was a friend of Chad's.

Hey dont knock Maddox...he brought some life back into the Steelers at the end of the Kordell years...and hell if it wasnt for him getting injured and Ben coming in when he did...who knows how the past handful of years would have gone.

Rod Woodson for sure.

I wouldn't put Santonio Holmes in that category. He didn't walk away, he was traded. That's not letting someone get away.

The problem isn't finding the money for Woodley. The problem is that without the salary cap, he can't make more than 30% of his base salary. Anything extra I think has to be in guaranteed money, and to put him into the pay scale of Demarcus Ware and such....that would be a lot of guaranteed money.

I have long wondered what Miller could have done as the starter in Pittsburgh. Of all the players I can remember on the Steelers, he got the worst raw deal of them all.

I could not agree with you more.

I am definitely a Woodson fan here. Second I would say Kevin Green. Third I would go with Carnell Lake. That secondary with Rod and Carnell was one of the best I can remember. Another member of that Secondary, Darren Perry, would have been a helluva keep as a Secondary coach

You could make a case that the Steelers let Dan Marino get away... He BEGGED the Steelers to draft him and they desperately needed a qb at the time but they passed on him.

I wouldn't call him a loser. Noll thought he might be be a decent tackle. He was very badly injured in an accident and didn't play. Thats a shame in itself. That we took him with Dan on the board is unfairly dumped on the poor guy. I will admit though, I was apoplectic about the pick. Always thought the league leaned on the front office to pass on Danny. Woulda been several more Lombardis. Everybody knew it.

And yes, Merriweather belongs on the list.
